But don't worry, according to some experts here Gorshkov is redundant and intelligent thing to do would be to spend more time developing even bigger ship to replace them

This of course will be super fast and cheap while construction can be done anywhere in record time

    Check your numbers
As of today, there are 9 Udaloys in service (7 active + 2 being modernized) and 4 Sovremennys in service (2 active + 2 being repaired).

AFAIK the info in wikipedia is correct, ie:

    Udaloys (9):

    Kulakov - Northern Fleet
    Severomorsk - Northern Fleet
    Levchenko - Northern Fleet
    Kharlamov - Northern Fleet
    Chabanenko (modernisation) - Northern Fleet
    Tributs - Pacific Fleet
    Vinogradov - Pacific Fleet
    Panteleyev - Pacific Fleet
    Shaposhnikov (modernisation) - Pacific Fleet

    Sovs (4):

    Ushakov - Northern Fleet
    Burnyy (overhaul) - Pacific Fleet
    Bystryy - Pacific Fleet
    Nastoychivyy (overhaul) - Baltic Fleet

The Sovs don't have a lot of life left in them, and modernisation would be a waste of coin, but they could continue to serve for another decade or so if needed.

    Was talking about Sovremenis primarily

4 is alright but they are definitely on their way out, one is already a museum ship in Krondstat (Bespokoynyy)

The Sovs were impressive looking ships with well balanced armament. Their propulsion was not great, but if they can solve those issues I am sure they would be useful for the next 20 years so that new bigger ships wont be so urgently required and they can take the time to get them right.

I seem to remember someone mentioning that they had over 1,000 x 130mm rounds for sustained naval gunfire support roles, and of course their main missile armament is optimised to penetrate an AEGIS class cruisers defences...

    Fresh photos of Shaposhvikov

It will be getting new A-190 100mm main gun according to forums

Looks like new radar is installed, CIWS is under tarps and looks like it's not previous model but I could be wrong

That's all I got, anyone else noticed anything new?

It seems they have "closed" the area where we supposed kh-35 launchers will be installed (former missile pad).

Not so much closed as a blast barrier has been installed so that the area behind the launcher can be utilised. There looks to be some structures on the bulkhead forwards of the wall that might be part of the Uran launcher fixings.

How would you put the missile behind the blast barrier ? Maybe turn them 90° to fire on the sides but unlikely.

The structure seem to be for allowing people going up to check the uksk and not a launch pad.

It would be rather stupid to not install new missiles where formers were.

    It's very likely

90° is standard setting for that type of launchers

There is no space for that. Uran is almost 5m long. Moreover the opening in the sides is to small to allow a 4 tube uran launcher. They would have cut the structure if it was the case.

Well this might be the Uran launcher place actually. I thought it was to much angled and the front structure would be in the way of the missile.

That's nice and great power up.

Those areas we are talking about had Metel missiles located there that are enormous compared with the Uran... you could probably fit two quad launchers for the Uran in that space... one forward of the other both angled up and out off centre... that would be 16 missiles if both sides had the same loadout... a useful backup...

They could even put a modular angled launch mount that can carry Uran or Medvedevka ballistic anti sub rockets...

No surprise, as she's in lousy shape. AFAIK she is only used as a floating barracks for the Shaposnikovs crew while she completes her refit.

Well it still clearly has the naval TOR system as that sensor on a pedestal at the rear... where the left leg of the large crane in the background meets the rear of the ship is for the Klintok system...

not a great quality image... and lots of scaffolding still present it seems... but interesting none the less...

Details of the "alcove" behind the ex-Metel launcher. Could this structure be intended as a support for new equipment and a bulkhead to fully enclose this area?

Udaloy and Sovremennyy destroyers - Page 13 QQ4Y1FR

The Uran support structure (just aft & port/stbd of the UKSK bins) looks mostly complete, just needs the missile canisters?
