Rather than expanding they are building a new yard in that island. Their old yard close to Shanghai is supposed to be closed down and used for river front property development.
The new yard is supposed to have better facilities.

True, the production is probably going to step up either way.

Re: PLA Navy and Naval Air Force
We really don't know what their schedule might be... they wont keep building ships at this rate unless they have a high failure rate which would be very bad, though I think unlikely.
They will be looking at their sea lines of communication and trade and where the risky places are and how to get and maintain ships in those areas with some persistence to ensure their trade lines can't be interfered with.
They are not making these ships for fun.

Re: PLA Navy and Naval Air Force
The rate isnt showing any sign of slowing down yet. The Type-52D has probably reached it production goal of 25 vessels. The Type-054A frigate production continues with atleast 20 more vessels. The Type-055 is probably going for a second batch. Also its the Type-076 LDH should go in production in the next coming years.
Then its the Type-004 carrier class, the type-054B frigate, the Type-095 SSN and the Type-096 SSBN.

Those ships are only build to keep the unemployment rate down.
Most of them never left the littoral waters or even the harbor areas.

They use them as escorts for the destroyers quite often. And the Chinese do missions to Africa and the Middle East occasionally. For example they do anti-piracy deployments to the Gulf of Aden.

Then it turns out that the Chinese also built over 200 J-20s and over 300 J-16s just to keep up production.

Pretty sure they can still load cruise missiles and destroy US bases in the Pacific.
But it's true they made a lot of speed boats and corvettes.
Now they started focusing on big ships. The labding ships will also be very usefull.

Re: PLA Navy and Naval Air Force
According to Zhang Gang, chief designer of Similan, China started development of a new AOR in 1988. Development was delayed due to cost, leading China to buy a Komandarm Fedko-class oiler, renamed Qinghaihu, from Ukraine in 1992.

It's still fast enough for their Type 071/075/076 LPD/LHD/LHAs, since they will operate closer to shore & need less supplies than their CBGs.
