DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:10 P.M.) - The Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAYF) conducted its first air raids in several months over the Deir Hafer Plains on Friday, striking the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham's (ISIS) defenses near the Kuweires Military Airport.
According to a military source in Aleppo, the Syrian Air Force has launched well over 15 airstrikes around the Deir Hafer Plains, targeting the Islamic State's gathering points as far east as the Euphrates River that separates this province with Al-Raqqa.
Deir Hafer is considered one of the Islamic State's most important strongholds because it is the gateway to the Jirah Airbase, which is located near the Tabaqa Dam.
In addition to the airstrikes, the Syrian Armed Forces have targeted the Islamic State's defenses with heavy artillery in the Deir Hafer Plains; this could mean that a military operation is set to begin in this part of the Aleppo Governorate.
With all eyes on Al-Bab, a swift military operation to liberate Deir Hafer could catch the Islamic State terrorists off-guard and pave the way for the Syrian Armed Forces to launch a new bid to reach the Al-Raqqa Governorate.
