Syrian Air Force hammers ISIS stronghold in east Aleppo
    https://mobile.almasdarnews.com/article/syrian-air-force-hammers-isis-stronghold-east-aleppo/
DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:10 P.M.) - The Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAYF) conducted its first air raids in several months over the Deir Hafer Plains on Friday, striking the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham's (ISIS) defenses near the Kuweires Military Airport.

According to a military source in Aleppo, the Syrian Air Force has launched well over 15 airstrikes around the Deir Hafer Plains, targeting the Islamic State's gathering points as far east as the Euphrates River that separates this province with Al-Raqqa.

Deir Hafer is considered one of the Islamic State's most important strongholds because it is the gateway to the Jirah Airbase, which is located near the Tabaqa Dam.

In addition to the airstrikes, the Syrian Armed Forces have targeted the Islamic State's defenses with heavy artillery in the Deir Hafer Plains; this could mean that a military operation is set to begin in this part of the Aleppo Governorate.

With all eyes on Al-Bab, a swift military operation to liberate Deir Hafer could catch the Islamic State terrorists off-guard and pave the way for the Syrian Armed Forces to launch a new bid to reach the Al-Raqqa Governorate.

We badly need some journalist with balls of steel to cover that front, or better enclave. I've seen tweets about locals being forced into starvation and pics of huge numbers of IS goons dying on a weekly basis.

So now that all proper hospitals are out... there's children's hospitals too.

Aleppo's children's hospital bombed as it treats chlorine gas victims

The only children’s hospital in besieged Aleppo is out of action after being bombed as it treated victims of a chlorine gas attack, forcing staff to evacuate babies in incubators and other patients injured over days of fierce bombardment.

    Honestly, I can't.... Shocked

One or more SOF operators are worth many times more than the missile and system combined. This whole bean counting doesn't always work in war.

There's a lesson learnt from the French video, expensive, fire and forget ATGMs have their niche position in today's asymmetric wars. Carefully fielding them in areas where embedded personnel are located is smart. Russians should take notes, given their recent experience in Raqqa against SVBIEDs.

Ok Kilo, I'll try to explain you again why a Javelin is a very expensive solution.

I was the one pointing out that the Javelin was a nasty threat, but the cost is simply prohibitive when you think about it.

You can have the same result with a proper preparation of a fighting position. It's really the basics when it comes to a defensive perimeter. In this case it's not like the PKK doesn't have the time to prepare killzones.

The other issue is that the Iraqis just showed then a heavy armored vehicle (like ironically the T-90 proved itself in Syria) is a better bet than a complement of 4/5 javelins. 500K to a million USD.

    Syrian Civil War: News #10 - Page 15 DSu8X9e

One or more SOF operators are killed by tricks as cheap as an arab dude with an M16 guarding a fucking gate somewhere in Jordan. You have the same SF guys getting killed because their operations are hair-pulling stuff, not because they're in need of some fire and forget weapons. Or that their tactical kits are to be burdened with half a million bucks just for shits and giggles.

Fact is that the operator with the Milan fudged up. Rebels have had less issues with far more difficult shots, so while the FF mode is great it's just not cost-effective when the tactical situation is analyzed. And as I said, once you are out of Javelins, what happens? Better be safe than sorry yes, but you can be safer without being broke. I repeat it's really basic skills on many militaries.

Frankly the Javelin is a niche weapon that gets an overdue attention, especially in these circumstances.

No need to explain something I already knew. And I see what you mean.

KoTeMoRe wrote:Frankly the Javelin is a niche weapon that gets an overdue attention, especially in these circumstances.

Yeah. But it also has its place in this type of warfare.

PS. an experienced SOF operator costs much more that his annual salary, especially when deployed. Probably around the cost of a few Javellins and then some. Something Junger et al. fail to understand. Bean counting alone is not a winning argument in the military.

    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/islamist-rebels-agree-hand-west-ghouta-stronghold-syrian-army-report/

Breaking preliminary reports suggest Jabhat Fateh al-Sham in Khan al-Sheih have agreed to evacuate their forces to Idlib and in turn, hand over their last West Ghouta town to the Syrian Arab Army

As part of the first term of the agreement, the SAA's 4th Mechanized Division has withdrawn from the Qusur district in the eastern part of Khan al-Sheih town which it captured just hours earlier today.

Another 'first term' part of the agreement includes a 48-hour ceasefire. Effectively, firefights have entirely stopped as of Saturday evening. Soon, if both sides adhere to the agreement, the infamous Syrian green buses will enter the town and evacuate the jihadist fighters along with their families to the Idlib governorate.

Just looked at those photos again. What a contrast between the effects of what were probably two identical ATGM. What was the RH target? Fuel truck?

This is the fourth destroyed M60T tank. There are 170 M60T tanks in Turkish Land Forces inventory. The first exploded vehicle looks like ACV-15.

I fail to find any kind of connection.

No domestic "analogue" of FGM-148 is in work at today (the designer team would be dismissed on the spot).
The new line of objects in this niche must satisfy requirements way, way higher than that badly conceived product and in spite of that all of them remain several step behind protection advancements achieved by domestic armoured vehicles of new generation.

Abroad designers are still heavily entangled practicing wizardy with pre.charge times of initialization and tip rod design to attempt to cope with last decade 4C23 elements.

I've counted at least 7 tanks hit 5 with secondary deton. At least one more has been hit by PKK Konkurs. And a Leopard1 as well.

We're closing to the 10% margin which is the red flag for unadequate protection of the tanks. Given those M60T's are equipped with Superblazer ERA, you should really ask for a refund. Just saying.

Also that's the last video of Andrey Timoshenko which stood his post until the end. Not exactly a end you'd like to see. Biggest problem i got is the fucking SAA douche-bags that didn't use the tank, the ZSU-23 or what ever RPG there was at hand. Anyway balls of Iron. R.I.P.

Not in Syria, the Leopard 1 was destroyed in Turkey. By PKK inside FOB.

Just making a short summary of fresh losses within these 5 months. When it comes to the M60T, you should ask for a retro-fit, the Superblazer isn't cutting it anymore.
