Syrian Army to begin counterattack against ISIS in Deir Ezzor with Russian air cover

The Russians can bomb all they want, in the end that garrison cannot afford to lose a single man, ISIS can.

Airstrikes alone will only slow it down not stop it and no new army groups will be arriving there anytime soon.

Really if ISIS wasn't such a useless force, they would have taken Deir by now.

Some figures I have seen mentioned online have 4,000 SAA and unspecified number of militia versus 14,000 ISIS. Civilian population of 100-120,000 in besieged zone.

Why has ISIS been able to keep momentum even after Russia has bombed them for more than a year. Do all these destroyed weapon caches and command centers matter? Moreover, how is ISIS manpower still able to achieve local superiority even of its recuitment has declined and thousands have dies from airstrikes?

Also I guess lost oil profits dont matter since ISIS can still easily and cheaply defeat the SAA whenever it wants to.

ISIL got momentum in Syria after US manage to evacuate large number if ISIL terrorists from Iraq to Syria before operation in Mosul started. Those units enable ISIL to launch operation in Palmyra, enforce defense in Al Bab against Turkey and to increase their capabilities around Deir Ezzor. After those "fresh" units will be destroyed, than not much of ISIL reserves will be left. Those are the strongest strikes before death.

Well then what was the point of bombing weapons depots and oil stocks when Gulf Wahhabi monkeys will keep supplying ISIS as much as they like for free?

That explains how YPG took so much land. How does the US order ISIS around? By encrypted communication? or through gulf states? Could GRU sabotage US-Saudi-ISIS comm network by killing off their advisors, or John McCain the next time he visits Syria?

That explains how YPG took so much land.

THe mayor question should be why ISIS does not attack the Kurds and try to take zones
from them in northen Syria. If you look at the map of ISIS positions ,you will see them quite happy to having Kurds in their rear flank for mysterious reasons. A quick look at Russia
released map of from where ISIS multimillionaire Oil business , transport its oil , will show
they use Kurds zones to transport oil trucks. In other words ,there is  a major agreement
between Kurds in SYria and IRAQ and ISIS to allow them transfer oil trucks through their territories and a deal like this could only happen with the heavy support of US,UK and France
and Saudi Arabia.  So for me is clear , that ISIS is not interested to capture kurdish zones ,
they want instead Syrian government ones. At times kurds fights ISIS and vice versa but it doesnt happens frecuently.  So this shows why the so called Kurds ,"The Most effective force" against ISIS" according to many ignorants.. happens only because in reality they are not focused
in fighting each other ,Kurds remain neutral ,neither pro ISIS ,neither pro Asad and they try to avoid each other .  So this is the reason why a force like Kurds ,that do not have tanks ,do not have satellite logistics ,do not have much artillery can be so effective in the media.

IF US,NATO and Saudi Arabia who backups ISIS ,were at war against Kurds ,long time ago withing 2012 , they will have over run all Kurds positions in Syria and IRAQ. But if you look at
terrorist from all factions and kurds ,their territory advances , you will clearly see , that Kurds have been the faction who more have benefit from this war , since they never lost major territory in the entire 6 years of war. incredible but true. All they have achieved is taking more territory from Syria , in the name of "fighting ISIS".

And this is the real game here.  First NATO and Saudi Arabia unleash a hundred of thousand jihadist to fight Syria and IRAQ.. they gain territory , later NATO pretends to be fighting ISIS and annex the territories they "liberate" for the kurds. So that way they can justify the transfer of land.  So in reality what happens is , First Terrorist take territory away of Syrian and IRAQ army. Second NATO takes back the territories of the terrorist and give it to Kurds ,next Kurds claim their independence over their new territories given for free by NATO , and this allow later the west to legalize their illegal partition of Syria.  So Kurds are not any better fighting than the Syrian local conscripts who helps the Syrian army. What makes kurds so effective is that they are in reality not the main focus of any terrorist group. The territories and kurds positions in Syria tells it all . They are indirect allies ,not because they like each other but because their mutual allies ---> NATO does not allow their terrorist assets to fight the kurds. Since the kurds is the card NATO needs to justify partition of Syria. after the FSA disbanded.

Truly most people are not aware of the big deceptive games being played in Syria.
Kurds are not religious extremist ,but they are opportunistic ,and seeking to take advantage
whenever they can to partition Syria and get their most hoped Independence.

Syrian helicopters were able to land and take off for the first time in Deir Ezzor since ISIS conducted its devastating offensive that cut the military base from the main city. The helicopters were able to bring in fresh reinforcements to fight against the ISIS offensive, whilst also carrying away some injured soldiers from the embattled city. With helicopters being able to land again, more reinforcements are expected to arrive in the coming hours and days.

It actually wasn't useless force. Numbers of veteran terrorists with heavy equipments managed to arrive at Syria thanks to the consciously ignorant of the Western allies.

A couple of choppers don't amount to much that is not sizeable reinforcements. If ISIS has any tactical mind they will create an Aerial Denial zone and they have weapons capable of this.

They are useless, then again most SAA forces aren't good also. Their record proves that.

It's no coincidence that the US-operation against Mosul just paused when Aleppo was liberated and Turkey invaded Al-Bab.

Fresh Daesh-militants from Iraq are joining the battle in Syria.

International coalition air forces have carried out airstrikes against the terrorists of the Daesh group in northern Syria for the first time after a long break, a report of Turkey’s General Staff obtained by RIA Novosti says.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A total of four air raids were conducted on Wednesday, according to the document. "On January 18, combat drones of the coalition forces [the United States] carried out 4 aerial operations against IS [Daesh]. The same day, at 3:30 p. m. Moscow time [12:30 GMT] UK Tornado jet fighters that are part of the coalition forces attacked and destroyed IS targets in Bzagah region. It was the first aerial operation of the coalition forces with use of combat airplanes after a long break," the Wednesday statement said.

Russia, Turkey conducting first joint air operation against Islamic State

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. On Wednesday, Russia’s Aerospace Force and Turkey’s Air Force are conducting the first joint air operation against the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) on the outskirts of the al-Bab town in the Aleppo province, Head of the Main Operations Department of Russia’s General Staff Lieutenant-General Sergei Rudskoi told reporters.

The air operation, agreed on with the Syrian government, involves nine warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Force, including four Sukhoi Su-24M, four Sukhoi Su-25 aircraft and one Sukhoi Su-34 bomber, as well as four F-16 and four F-4 fighters of the Turkey’s Air Force. A total of 36 targets are planned to be hit," he said.
According to Rudskoi, all the targets have been previously fixed by the two countries’ General Staff and their air force units command. "In the past two days, a reconnaissance mission involving unmanned aircraft and cosmic reconnaissance equipment was carried out in order to help fix the targets," Rudskoi elaborated.
"The joint airstrikes against the ISIS facilities, delivered by Russia and Turkey, have already proven highly effective," he noted.
