SURPRISE.

Look in the background of this picture taken today during the launch of the second pr.22100 coast guard ship.

It is the DIMITRY ROGACHEV, second unit of the pr. 22160 patrol ships. It is already in the water, it must have been launched discreetly sometime during May 2018.

The project does have some resambles to Swedish Visby corvett.

Only very superficially in shape.
22160 is much bigger, has a significantly different hull, different propulsion, very different armament & completely different tasking.

Apparently the interior has a lot of void spaces, over on Balancer they're talking about lots of Tambours.
Seems to be a fairly common thing with modern multi-role, small crew ships.

I remember the scale models of this class having VLS between main gun and bridge. So did they back away from that? It's weird because this could be a legit corvette instead of an overpowered patrol boat or a light corvette.

Its an option for the export models, someone at Balancer said they have extra accommodation for marines in that area instead.

Correct. VLS cells for AA missiles behind main gun are one of options but Navy wanted accommodations for marines to be located there instead. They also insisted on having that armored landing craft in the back.

They are definitely determined to use these 6 ships for anti-piracy (and other similar) work.

I was going to say it looks quite a bit away from it but then I saw additional pics


Its in the water, mast on the stern & transit pontoons connected so yeah thats gonna be heading downstream soon

The 2nd unit of the class DIMITRY ROGACHEV is now being transferred to the Black Sea through the canal system.



While the first unit VASSILY BYKOV seems to be part of the Navy Day celebrations.

She got repainted for naval parade. Sadly in traditional grey paint.

I respectfully disagree. That Titanium Bronze made her look unique and special. She got dirty fast however, that's probably the main reason why they changed it to grey.

Well, they can paint it purple, if they want to. Important is that the second ship will be in trials soon.

I also quite liked the bronzey colour.
Navy grey is more expected though & doesn't make it ugly.

Interesting its gone downstream with props on the foredeck.
