I hear over and over how anti missile missile systems are limited in scope and numbers since potential adversaries have an advantage via saturation salvo attack.OK, but that threat is viable for 30 something years (Russians were deploying that tactics since 70-ties with their anti ship missiles) and now all of a sudden they find themselves threatened by the same threat that was there for some time now. Go figure EW is not effective as a deterrence weapon. Deterrence needs effects that can be demonstrated. EW methods cannot be demonstrated because the enemy will learn about them and develop effective countermeasures.

Electronic warfare have limits.. they have a max distance that they can operate.
Ballistic missiles that comes from near space can fly exactly over their target and have
optics with target identification and satellite guidance. By the Time the Ballistic missile
like Iskander or any other enters in the jamming environment range..it will be too late..since the missile will be right above the target its intend to bomb..so the jamming could work in interrupt the guidance but it will be too late. we are speaking of a ballistic missile that could travel in free fall 50km in ~4 second. So it will be jammed for 1 or 2 at best.. and it will be to late.

To counter ballistic Missiles that travel to space and return ,you need very long range
electronic jamming that can jam satellites in space. Russia is already working on that.
About RAid breaker.. Russia is not working on something like that. already have it in service.
their counter electronics have up to 300km range apparently and being used in Syria.
That said. Russia have in service the capabilities to jam 100 missiles and block its signal.
and apparently can turn off missiles too.. or make them explode early. So US military is playing
catchup with Russia in electronic warfare. But eventually they will get there in the future to the level russia is now.. but Russia is now working in space jamming and satellite killing with counter electronics.. something like that will be really game changing. i can't imagine how scary
and panic will be for US and NATO that Russia develop an Antenna that can shut off in a small time their expensive Gps and spy satellites in space. Basically anyone that control space can defeat the enemy nuclear missiles and cut all their communications and precision weapons.

Assault Breaker is still in US service and you know it with the name AGM-158 JASSM. Now JASSM isn't an issue for Russian Air threat preventing vehicles.

Rest it is meant to release multiple package in order to destroy tank divisions but i guess with T-14 coming it can handle such threats.

Under this program the US Joint Electronic Warfare Center intends to neutralize 100s of incoming missiles with Electronic Warfare.

How can Russia respond to such a program?

The Russians have already displayed EW systems for interfering with enemy aircraft and weapons... no doubt they have consulted with their own makers of aircraft and weapons even just for testing purposes and have shared information for counter counter measures.

Note phonic systems (ie fibre optics instead of electronics) should be an enormous step forward in rendering EMP weapons impotent...

For every measure there is a countermeasure.

The new system in Russia of electronic warfare KRET.(spelling) that is already operating in Syria
. According to them can jam about ~8 targets per unit at the same time.. if you need to jam 100.. you can just stack many units until you can track 100. Probably Russia have a bigger version in Russia that do it in just one unit.. but if not ,you can do it with the system Electronic warfare Russia have.

Pre-detonation of incoming missiles or ammunition can only happen when they have a certain fuze or measurement of range to target. Electronic Warfare and technologies can simulate an electro-magnetic signature somwhere hundred meters above vehicles and by that signla to munitions that rely on electro-magnetic fields for fuse detonation to counter them or irritating missiles seekers for different bandwith to irritade them. Jamming to create duds only works when they do not have self guidance but rely on a 3rd source to guide them.

Smoke and Mirrors: Russian Aircraft Get a Sleek New Countermeasure

Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET), a subsidiary of the state-owned Russian corporation Rostec, has developed a new type of electronic missile jamming unit for Russia’s Armed Forces, according to RIA Novosti.

"The jamming transmitter developed by KRET is a single-use device designed to be used by a plane or a helicopter. After the device is deployed via a standard countermeasure launching system, it begins emitting an aimed jamming signal. It is essentially a full-fledged electronic warfare complex compressed into a standard decoy cartridge," the company's press service told RIA Novosti.

Depending on the situation, the deployed countermeasure either imitates an aircraft, thus drawing away the incoming rocket, or emits a jamming signal powerful enough to prevent it from acquiring its target.

Last week President Vladimir Putin said that Russia might utilize electronic warfare systems to ensure the safety of its aircraft in Syria following the downing of a Su-24 bomber by Turkish forces.

KRET is the largest radio-electronic holding in Russia; it was created in 2009 and has more than 50,000 employees. It manufactures a wide range of products, including avionics, operational and tactical systems, electronic warfare and intelligence equipment, friend-or-foe identification systems, special measuring instrumentation, plugs, electric connectors, and cable products.

Interview with КРЭТ deputy Chief ,Владимир Михеев.

Some interesting points exposed one more time and also some news, in particular with reference to fotonic based radar array "revolution" and quantum based CPU ,two precise segments where, in the last years, were highly concentrated the Federation's military Science resources and that have already produced true breakthrough, with potential military and civil implications simply incomputables.

Obviously the quick emergence of those technologies on domestic horizon ( for a certain way even unespected, particularly for what concern theirs development cycle, much more compressed than what initially expected) have reshaped some cardinal choices, also at strategical level, in relation to the technical requirement and even the concept itself of some perspective programs.........

Russia's East Siberia District Receives New Electronic Warfare Systems

Col. Alexander Gordeev said that Russian troops in the Eastern Military District (EMD) have received over 10 cutting-edge electronic warfare systems.

KHABAROVSK(Sputnik) – Russian troops in the Eastern Military District (EMD) have received over 10 cutting-edge electronic warfare systems, EMD spokesman Col. Alexander Gordeev said Tuesday.

"More than 10 modern tracked and [truck-mounted] systems entered service with one of the Eastern Military District units deployed in the Republic of Buryatia," Gordeev told reporters.

Dubbed the SPR-2 "Rtut-B," the frequency jamming system is designed to protect troops and equipment; it can cover staging areas as well as individual fixed and moving objects.

The second EW system, the R-330 "Mandat" named Borisoglebsk-2, boasts a range of improvements on its predecessor. These include an extended signals intelligence and electronic countermeasures frequency range, higher accuracy when positioning radiation sources and higher jamming capabilities.

Over 850 military equipment units have entered service in the EMD last year as Russia continues to implement a large-scale rearmament program to modernize its military by 70 percent in five years.

Stations "Mercury-BM" KRET production are some of the most advanced
More than a dozen modern systems of electronic warfare (EW) from the beginning of January, it was adopted one of the compounds of the Eastern Military District, Buryatia, told RIA "Novosti" press service chief Alexander Gordeyev County.

"More than ten modern complexes of EW wheeled and crawler entered into service one of the compounds of the Eastern Military District stationed in the Republic of Buryatia. This latest multifunctional complexes EW SPR-2M "Mercury-BM" at the MT-LBU and complexes "Borisoglebsk-2", - said Alexander Gordeyev.

Complexes "Mercury-BM" designed and manufactured by experts KRET since 2011. To date, several dozen of these complexes are the Russian Army. Just last year, the Russian Defense Ministry KRET put under the state defense order 20 sets of station signals intelligence and protecting "Mercury-BM".

This system is one of the most advanced to date. Purpose of a multifunctional complex "Mercury-BM" - remote blasting projectiles and missiles equipped with radio controlled fuses. In order to cause maximum damage to personnel and equipment of the missile to explode at a height of 3-5 meters. "Mercury-BM" acts on the ammunition so that they explode at a safe distance.

This complex is able to resist not only the radio controlled fuses. If necessary, it can be used to jam the frequency at which the enemy is radio. "Mercury-BM" provides protection of personnel and equipment in the territory of 50 hectares.

The system is mounted on a light armored tracked MT-LB chassis, allowing a fairly high mobility characteristics. Crew make two people, and the deployment of the complex is less than 10 minutes.

    "Murmansk-BN" in Kamchatka

In Kamchatka separate EW Center received two modern automated complex jamming enemy lines of shortwave "Murmansk-BN." In the stowed state of each of them is a mobile fleet of seven mobile units on automotive platform "KamAZ", the military truck carries the appropriate equipment. The battle unfolded state of the newest complex covers an area of 640,000 sq.m. "Chief caliber" "Murmansk" - a powerful antenna, allowing a high probability at specified distances or pluck a radio or disrupt and hinder it. A loss of communication in a real battle, as you know - is the loss of control with all the ensuing negative consequences.

    - "Murmansk-BN" - the arsenal of the XXI century - says the Chief of Staff, 471th of a separate center EW Captain 3rd Rank Roman Nechaev. - The basis of the latest set of advanced mathematical principles laid. By its parameters it surpasses its predecessor in almost several orders of magnitude. For example, the claimed power stations of the old park was 5 kW. The "Murmansk-BN", the figure in some modes of operation can be up to 400 kW.
Impressive and other characteristics of the new technology, in particular, the range of its effective application. Distance of 3000 km for "Murmansk-BN" is not the limit. This means that in the capable hands of Kamchatka electronic warfare specialists from the place of the complex is able to perform tasks on their territory so far on its outskirts. And if necessary - beyond the 12-mile economic zone - from Chukotka to the islands in the Sea of Japan.

p.s. In my estimation it turns out, the Navy waits a complex consisting centers EW in Northern and Black Sea fleets, as well as the center of the Pacific Fleet EW OKVS.

Invisible Warfare: Russia Touts Second-to-None Jamming Equipment

Russia's most advanced electronic warfare systems, Borisoglebsk-2 and Rtut-BM, add significantly to the country's defense capabilities, according to the Russian news network Zvezda.

The modernization of the Russian Armed Forces has included the development of electronic warfare, the Russian news network Zvezda reported, referring to the state-of-the-art Borisoglebsk-2 and Rtut-BM systems.

The Borisoglebsk-2 is a multi-purpose electronic warfare system developed by Russia's United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation for the Russian Armed Forces. Its development started in 2004 and its evaluation testing was completed successfully in December 2010. The system was initially introduced to the Russian army in 2014.

The Borisoglebsk-2 merges four types of jamming stations into a single system with a single control console which allows the operator to take decisions within seconds. The system is mounted on nine MT-LB armored vehicles and is designed to suppress mobile satellite communications and satellite-based navigation signals.
    The Borisoglebsk-2 electronic warfare system

Compared to previous jamming units, the Borisoglebsk-2 has a wider range of radio surveillance and suppression, hi-speed frequency scanning, a longer operative range and more precise radio wave emission source spatial localization.

United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation spokesman Mikhail Artyomov touted the Borisoglebsk-2 as the best electronic warfare system in the world.

"The system's combat characteristics are not just on a par with the best foreign analogues, they considerably surpass them in terms of a number of parameters. At present, our system is able to jam all modern radio communications," he said.

The Rtut-BM is another advanced Russian electronic warfare system, which is designed to protect troops and military hardware from artillery rockets and shells equipped with proximity fuses which are programmed to cause them to detonate when they are 3-5 meters from the ground.

The Rtut-BM affects the proximity of radio-controlled explosive devices, prompting them to explode at higher altitudes in order to keep troops and equipment safe. Also, the system can neutralize radio frequencies employed by the enemy's communications.

The Rtut-BM is deployed on an MT-LB armored vehicle fitted with a television antenna which provides coverage for an area of about 50 hectares (500,000 square meters) or a semi-sphere with a 400 meter radius. This system requires a crew of two men and it can be ready for jamming within 10 minutes.

Over the past three years, domestic manufacturers have supplied 22 such systems to the Russian Armed Forces, and 21 more are due to be delivered before the end of this year. As far as the Borisoglebsk-2 is concerned, more than ten such units were supplied to the Russian army between 2014 and 2015.

Russian electronic warfare equipment surpasses Western analogues

According to the Russian Electronic Warfare Forces commander, a special electronic warfare testing site is to be created in Russia by 2018
Russian electronic warfare equipment surpasses Western analogues by a number of characteristics, including range, Russian Electronic Warfare Forces commander Maj. Gen. Yury Lastochkin said Friday.

Lastochkin said that in general, the main tendencies of development of domestic electronic warfare (EW) equipment and similar equipment by leading foreign states coincide, which predetermines the closeness of their technical and tactical characteristics.

"Nevertheless, among key advantages of domestic electronic warfare equipment compared to foreign analogues can be named its greater range, which is achieved thanks to the use of more powerful transmitters and more efficient antenna systems," he said.

According to the commander, the share of state-of-the-art equipment in electronic warfare troops totals 46%.

Lastochkin told journalists that in line with the plans to equip electronic warfare (EW) units in accordance with the state defense order, some 300 main specimens of hardware and more than 1,000 small-size items of equipment have been supplied to the troops.

"The activities made it possible to re-equip 45% of electronic warfare military units with modern systems, such as Murmansk-BN, Krasukha, Borisoglebsk-2 etc.," he said.

"In this way, by the start of 2016, the overall share of modern specimens of equipment totaled 46%," Lastochkin said.

The official also pointed out that electronic warfare troops would be involved in various maneuvers of the Russian Armed Forces to complicate the situation during the drills.

Lastochkin told journalists that over 200 special tactical drills and command post exercises are scheduled for 2016 with electronic warfare (EW) formations and military units as part of combat training events.

He said a special electronic warfare testing site is to be created in Russia by 2018.
