Little or no news from the field. That can surely mean only one thing. That Syrian Army is doing its job pretty well.
Probably positioning itself and cutting supply lines and taking over important check points but not entering town just jet. Pounding them before for days - like in Al Quisar.

Apparently the first SAA convoy reached and reinforced Meng airbase north of Aleppo. The seige isn't broken yet, but I doubt it will last much longer if ground troops are breaching the FSA lines.

Meng airbase has been surrounded for months, the SAA had to airdrop supplies to the defenders.

Aside from that, it has been quiet.

The FSA launched an attack from within Aleppo in the last 2 days. According to pro-government bloggers, the whole operation was about the evacuation of 2 high level Saudi's (sons of government officials). They reportedly managed to get them out but apparently lost a lot of men in the process.

Regarding the TOS-1, it's only speculation so far.

Apart from Konkurs deliveries, a few videos have appeared showing the Chinese HJ-8 ATGW in use by the FSA. They're believed to have been acquired in Sudan...

here's one being fired at the Meng airbase

Syria is a good place where we can go and run around. Happy people but bad economy. Cant even live free in upheaval place. Many bad airports. Cash and Carry. But maybe syrian isnt that bad as it sounds?  You always lose your oil. You can never win a war over oil. Dont make me spill the beans buddy, about not being able to make or handle Syria.

Israeli sources say that SAA victory in Qusair was of little strategical importance actually and that Assad will only be able to hold Alawi coastline and parts of Damascus.

BTW - I think that instead of saying "Syrian Arab Army" we should say "Alawi Arab Army" and "Alawi Defence Force" instead of "National Defence Force". They are both made almost exclusively fo Alawis not of "Syrians".

Yeah right - lets all listen to the Israelis.

Just recently their colonel was shouting in the Knesset about having all the wrong intelligence data about whats going on is Syria because of to much reliance on
bandits. Fall of Al Quisar is important because it closed biggest logistic base and import of arms and bandits from the Lebanon. Look how suddenly all the towns in Homs province are easily falling one by one.

Same thing was done with that other town which served as a logistic base from Jordan before Al Quisar and Iraq closed its borders with 40 000 troops.
So now it takes much more time to import weapons and bandits in Syria and those are subjected to air attacks just like those convoys coming in from Turkey that got destroyed several times in the last few days.

Syria is 70% Suni. If 70% of the country population rebelled against you, you would not last for a day. So to say that only Alawite Syria is waging to war against bandits could not be further from the truth. It is just the thing bandits want to achieve. To show this was as a ethnic or religious which is not. Syria is 6000 year old civilization. Respect that.

Victor is right. A large percentage of the SAA is still Suni, including it's officers. Not all Suni's are wahabi supporters.

The Alawi's do have the Shabiha militia.

Kurds have join in the fight on the side of Syrian Army.

    LINK

    LINK

Up to now, Kurds where mostly watching from the distance - up until now.

So expect opening new fronts, cooperation of Kurd army with Syrian army (like those of reliving Meng air base), cooperation in Aleppo operations and many more.

Chief calls for attack on bandits.

Syria Kurds need unity against FSA: official tells Kurdpress

The chief of Syria Kurds National Council (KNC) said the Syrian Kurds need to be united against the attacks of anti-government Free Syrian Army (FSA) forces on the northern Kurdish city of Efrin.

Talking to Kurdpress, KNC Leading Council Chief, Faisal Yusuf said, FSA forces have created serious security problems around Efrin and put the security of some villages in danger.

“They (FSA forces) have clashed with People Defense Units (YPG) in some villages,” Yusuf told Kurdpress, denouncing the attacks.
He further asked Human Rights centers to take on steps against possible political and human crisis in the Syrian Kurdish region.

Yusuf whose party is known as enjoying the support of Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani, denied serious problem with Democratic Union Party (PYD), affiliated with Kurdistan Workers’ Party.

Answering a question whether they have been in contact with FSA officials, including Maj. General Salim Edris over the attacks, Yusuf said there is unfortunately no FSA united organization and none of its commanders feel responsibility towards the army’s moves.

Not many Sunnis join Assad. SAA officer corps is almost exclusively Alawi, Republcian Guard, Shabiha and National Defence Force are also predominately Alawi.

I see no way for Assad to win this war. Even after retaking Al Qusair he is only able to have a delicate stalemate, at the cost of losing almost entire north and part of the east (Ar Raqqa)

Really Very Happy? Just yesterday Syrian Army entered Tal Kalakh (which was under bandit occupation for the duration of the entire conflict) without a fight.

All bandits surrendered without a fight. After the fall of Al Quisar bandits moral for the fight took a nosedive.

Why "western propaganda"? That's common in the Middle East. Kaddafi and Saddam both had their own praetorian guards made of members of their own tribal groups. Assad has Alawi Republican Guard. Saudi Arabia has its "National Guard" made exclusively of Al Saud tribe.

Not a big progress really. Since the beginning of this year I've heard about rebel defeats SEVERAL TIMES. After battles of Daraya people were saying that rebels are doomed. After an unsuccessful offensive in Hama they were be doomed too.

Al Qusair battle was to be a decisive victory of Assad, some media even called it "Syrian Stalingrad" and said that after this battle rebel forces are on the verge of collapse. It's almost a month after the battle and no spectacular blitzkrieg has taken place so far. SAA and its allies overran several smaller towns, the rebels destroyed several isolated outposts etc etc.

Russian Navy Pulls Personnel Out of Syria Base – Deputy FM

MOSCOW, June 27 (RIA Novosti) – Russia currently has no military personnel at its resupply facility in the Syrian port of Tartus, a senior diplomat said, though an expert affiliated with the Ministry of Defense downplayed it as a possible temporary measure.

“Currently, there is no one in Syria from the Russian Defense Ministry,” Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told the Al-Hayat international pan-Arabic newspaper.

“We never, at any time, had a real military base in Tartus… That center has no military or strategic significance. It never did and it doesn't now,” Bogdanov added, speaking in an interview that was first published last Friday in Arabic.

The naval maintenance center in Tartus, established in Soviet times, remains Russia’s last military foothold outside the former Soviet Union. The facility, used for the maintenance and resupply of Russian warships in the Mediterranean, had a staff of “several dozen,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in February.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement Thursday that the center has been serviced exclusively by civilian staff “for a long time,” but stressed it had no plans to abandon the facility.

An unnamed military official was cited by Vedomosti business daily Wednesday as saying that the Russian leadership was worried about the safety of the facility’s personnel, given the ongoing civil war in Syria. More than 90,000 people have been killed in the country since fighting broke out between government forces and rebels in March 2011, according to the latest UN figures.

Any incident involving Russian servicemen in Syria could also have unwanted political repercussions, the source said. Moscow has been providing diplomatic backing to embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad against pressure from Western powers and Gulf kingdoms.

The Russian Navy currently has a flotilla of 16 warships and auxiliary ships in the Mediterranean, but no Russian ships have called at Tartus in recent months, according to Russia’s General Staff.

The facility in Tartus only sees use on rare occasions when Russian warships call there, said Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense monthly Russian-language magazine and head of the Defense Ministry’s public council.

“[The pullout of military personnel] probably means that there are simply no current plans to use the base in Tartus,” he told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

“They’ll likely redeploy when it’s needed. It’s just a technicality,” Korotchenko said.

That's the propaganda angle pushed by their enemies who are fueling a sectarian war....basically your wet dream passed on as a fact. The Syrian merchant class is predominantly Suni. I don't think they're enthusiastic supporters of Assad but they can see clearly the disaster that will follow if the rebels win. Like Victor wrote, if the Suni's were all for the rebels, they would've won by now.

As Sa'iqa wrote:I see no way for Assad to win this war. Even after retaking Al Qusair he is only able to have a delicate stalemate, at the cost of losing almost entire north and part of the east (Ar Raqqa)

I see no way for the Wahabi's to win this war without a direct foreign intervention. That's been obvious since 2 years ago. If they don't manage to turn the situation soon, I think they're finished as a coherent fighting force....they'll be reduced to planting car bombs and making youtube videos.

    Hezbollah role in Syrias war..

The casualties are causing concern among Lebanon's Shiites, and many other Lebanese, who lauded Hezbollah's war against Israel,
eventually ending a 22-year-occupation of southern Lebanon in 2000, but are upset the group is now killing other Arabs and dragging
    Lebanon to the war.

Currently, Hezbollah is fighting with Assad's troops In Damascus, the Syrian capital where the rebels hold several districts.
Syrian opposition officials say 34 Hezbollah fighters were killed in Damascus Saturday.

But the group's main force, said by military sources in Beirut to be 2,000- to 4,000 strong, is now building up around Aleppo,
Syria's largest city and once its commercial heart.

Hell no wonder there is such high civilian casualties, dropping unguided bombs on a city is one thing, but it's not the first time I see civilians in battle. They seem not to care. It's hard to distinguish them between FSA.

assad is a dictator and must be removed

Assad is no more a dictator than any other leader in the region.

His crime is being a moderate.

The hilarious thing is that when a Sunni extremist gets into power (which the US seems to want because Sunni extremists like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia oppose Iran which is largely Shia) they are very likely to be very unfriendly to Israel... the huge irony is that the only reason Saudi Arabia is not openly aggressive to Israel is because they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them... western money has made Saudi Arabia rich and powerful... Syria is not that rich and is not so reliant on the west for its position so an out of control Syria next to Israel is like putting a bakery next to a gym... there is going to be conflicts of interest...

The biggest irony is of course that the west kicks Al Quada from Afghanistan yet lets them in to Syria with open arms... like that is not going to bite them in the A$$ later on. Rolling Eyes

On an aside... it is interesting... all the moderate Shia muslim countries and the not moderate police state Sunni muslim countries... accident?

The silly thing of course is that the west seems addicted to the Sunni dictatorships...

Yeah it's strange. They're probably use to it by now.

As for the Chechen jihadi's I agree. Also a fair few prominent foreign jihadi commanders have died in Syria.

With the Lebanese and Iraqi borders largely sealed and fighting in the north, there is talk of an offensive from the direction of Jordan aimed at Damascus by FSA groups that are currently being armed and trained by the Americans. Apparently it's planned for late July or August.
