Formation flight while fully armed? Too much free time or just usual MO?

^^^ Probably a message for those interested.
@ Vann7
Agree with your points, also I do feel that if ever such a successful attack took place, it can only happen with the aid of a proper military power with almost real time data on the location. It is beyond the normal capability of the IS to do such a strike in isolation.
Regarding the airbase, Russian forces will be moving out from there to Palmyra airbase once that is ready.

Yes, Palmyra is going to end up as russia's main airbase in Central Syria. It's in range of Raqqa and DEZ. The last recent report I've heard stated that Palmyra AB was almost ready.

Another one in support of the Jihadi outlets

Unless something concrete come from the Russian/Syrian side (at a later date) the Russian MoD's denial hold as they have been the most transparent and trustworthy entity compared to the usual suspects in this info war.

And it gives them a foothold to neutralize any Saudi plans to use East Syria as a control zone / pipeline transit.

Actually that one is possibly rather neutraL. Accidents happen. However they also cleary indicate that the Stratfor 14th May picture is a misnomer. The image was "taken" the 2nd of May.

Unidentified jets bombed a major camp of the powerful Islamist Ahrar al Sham insurgent group in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib, leaving a large number of dead and wounded, a monitor reported on Tuesday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said top trainers from among Ahrar al Sham's leaders were normally at the camp located in the Sheikh Bahar area of rural Idlib.
The insurgent group could not be reached comment. Syrian warplanes over the past 24 hours have intensified raids in the province, which is mainly in the hands of Ahrar al Sham and the Nusra Front, an al Qaeda offshoot.

Russian Su-34 Jets Smash Terrorists' Oil Facilities Near Raqqa
According to the Russian military, Su-34 jets operating in Syria have destroyed a series of oil production facilities operated by terrorists near Raqqa.
http://sputniknews.com/russia/20160531/1040570623/su-34-terrorist-oil-raqqa.html
"Russian Su-34 attack aircraft have destroyed terrorists' illegal oil production facilities in al-Taura located 42 kilometers [roughly 26 miles] to the southwest of Raqqa," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
Raqqa is the self-proclaimed capital of the terrorist group Daesh, also known as IS/Islamic State. The city also allegedly served as a waypoint for terrorist oil making its way into Turkey.
On March 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Aerospace Forces unit had fulfilled its mission in Syria and that its withdrawal would begin the following day. Moscow does, however, maintain a military presence in Syria, as a deadline for a complete pullout has not yet been announced.
Last month, Russian and Syrian Air Forces carried out coordinated airstrikes against Daesh in the province of Raqqa.

Looks like the US and Russia have reached one of those "wink wink no agreement" agreements, WW2/GPW style. Kerry says we don't collaborate with Russia, bombs the Shit out of Raqqa. Russia says we've not yet reached a deal, starts a movement on the Palmyra Raqqa axis. Starts bombing the unwashed masses.
Suddenly Turkey wants to get back to pre-Su24 relations, because PKK starts carroting 200kg payloads onder asphalt, shooting SuperCobras for fun, picking up outposts and totally disrupting both economic activity but also messing up the internal satisfaction level.
Yeah, sanctions...Russian style.

No problem there then, sorted by lunchtime. Say sorry, pay Russia for Su-24 and crew and seal the border properly.GunshipDemocracy wrote:

Speaking at a press conference in the Turkish city of Izmir on Tuesday, the president wondered “how it happened [that] President Putin sacrificed very good relations between the two countries to just one mistake made by an air pilot.”

Wait now it's a mistake? Didn't Doggie claim in the immediate aftermath that Russkies were ''violating airspace'' intentionally?
And does that backstabbing shitbag honestly think that Russia will just forget about whole thing because it would be convenient for him?

Russian Su-34 Strikes Daesh-Controlled Oil Refinery in Syria
http://sputniknews.com/russia/20160601/1040633258/su-34-hasakah-oil-strikes.html
Russian airstrikes have severely damaged oil facilities controlled by the terrorist group Daesh, also known as IS/Islamic State, in Syria's al-Hasakah Province, according to the Russian military.
"The Su-34 struck an oil refinery, situated on territory controlled by Daesh near the village of Ras al-Ain, in al-Hasakah province," reads a bulletin posted to the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The strikes caused a large fire to break out in the factory.
On Tuesday, Russian Su-34s destroyed a series of oil production facilities near Raqqa, the terrorist groups self-proclaimed capital and an alleged waypoint for illegal oil making its way into Turkey.
