Armed Dissidents, Russia, Turkey Likely to Attack Tahrir Al-Sham in Idlib
TEHRAN (FNA)- Media sources reported that the foreign media workers are hurriedly fleeing Idlib towards Turkey as armed dissidents, Moscow and Ankara declared operations against Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front).
Media activists in Idlib reported that reporters of different international news agencies are leaving Idlib after reports said that agreements have been made for attacks against Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at by other militant groups, backed by the Russian and Turkish air forces.
Earlier reports said today that a Saudi commander of Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at was assassinated in the Eastern parts of Idlib province.
News websites affiliated to the terrorists reported that Abu Mohammad al-Share'i was killed by unknown assailants in Saraqib city in Eastern Idlib.
They added that he was formerly a commander of Jund al-Aqsa terrorist group.

Thanks, not an expert on the differences. But the tails look different, are there both there, Mig with rockets and Su with the cannon? Could it be the angle?KoTeMoRe wrote:Those are fulcrums.

Good news
Russia is preparing to send more than 4,000 tons of materials and over 40 pieces of construction equipment to Syria to help the war-torn country in its multibillion-dollar reconstruction effort.
The shipment of industrial aid that is currently being readied for dispatch will consist of “more than 40 units of construction equipment,” such as bulldozers, excavators and cranes, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.
In addition, the country will receive “over 2 thousand tons of metal pipes” that would be used to restore water infrastructure as well as “hundreds of kilometers of high-voltage and fiber-optic cables” to restore electricity and communications lines.
The construction material, which will be shipped from the port of Novorossiysk, will be used to restore “critical infrastructure” to those areas that have been recently freed from terrorist fighters, the Defense Ministry said, adding that hospitals and schools remain the priority.

One problem is, all these jets are just dropping bombs, be it guided or unguided in a very accurate form. What we do not have though, is their air combat live examples. In this regard, the aircrafts job is also air to air engagements, and that is probably the most important function since it wouldn't make sense to have two, four or more aircraft all doing the same thing, dumping bombs to the ground. We need examples of its capabilities in air to air combat for these jets to become "popular sells" to foreign entities. Su-35S is still unproven but rather known due to its ridiculously powerful radar and its integrated sensor systems. Su-30SM is great due to having a rather powerful radar (not as powerful though as Su-35S') but with great air to ground capabilities.
What can MiG-29SMT provide that is different? Rather, nothing different than Su-30SM could, but rather being less capable in terms of overall performance than to the Su-30SM. Rather, MiG-29M/M2 or even MiG-35 would have been far better when trying to showcase.
I imagine the MiG-29SMT's will be used more specifically towards the forward forces as there are rumors of a new airfield being built by Russia (currently rumors) and if that is the case, is more than likely much closer to Palmyra or Deir, so MiG-29SMT's could be ideal in both air to air protection and air to ground for cheaper operation and reduced range. Although, how much cheaper is the MiG-29SMT compared to Su-30SM? Currently, probably quite a bit cause it is known that Su-30SM is more expensive than Su-35 (until all foreign components are replaced in further upgrades).

I wouldn't pit a 29SMT with what it might potentially challenge it there in air-to-air. Su-35S, Su-30SM is another story. I agree with your observation tho...very odd choice...maybe it's just the simple things the main reason it's there.

Probably to prove that it can take the work rate that will be needed over the next few months. 2 Russian submarines fire cruise missiles from Mediterranean, hitting ISIS targets in Syria
https://www.rt.com/news/403307-2-russian-submarines-fire-cruise-missiles/
Two Russian submarines have fired Kalibr cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea, hitting Islamic State terrorist targets in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Seven Kalibr cruise missiles were launched Thursday from Russia’s Velikiy Novgorod and Kolpino submarines in the eastern Mediterranean, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Targets hit included “control centers, communication hubs, militant weapons and ammunition warehouses in ISIS-controlled areas in southeast Deir ez-Zor,” the ministry said in a statement.
The missiles hit all the planned targets, which were within a range of 500 to 670 kilometers, the ministry added.
Russia is assisting the Syrian military to liberate the country’s territory from IS terrorists.

That must be the only place in the world where the press, and dogs, are allowed actually on the main runway during ops.

I doubt that they would publish footage of misses especially since PR is such a big deal these days... or any days
But I am sure it will be good talking point for likes of Jihadi Julian and Co...

No system is perfect, but kalibr has proven quite reliable. In regards, the Kh-101 hits were amazing. I imagine after both have been used, much is being tweaked. Currently the company who makes Iskander M is giving the Russian forces new missiles. They look the same but their internals are all different. This is an example of course but after all these field tests, same will be done on Kalibr and others.
The launch of Kh-35 is very interesting though. Any videos?
