The Israelis hit something around that area and set off some fireworks but no-one else apart from this shmuck is claiming that it was the Russian base at Hmeimim.

Why would it try to intercept anything? Russia is not at war with Israel.

It's an ally of Syria on Syrian territory. If Syria wants to be involved in the Palestine conflict and supply Hezbollah or Hamas or whoever, then godspeed, but that's nothing to do with Russia anymore than the Ukraine war is anything to do with Syria, and Russia is not going to provide air defense cover for them and get involved in hostilities with Israel on their behalf it's as simple as that.

Iran frequently tries to sneak arms depots under the Russian AD umbrella without Russian permission. Israel spots them and they contact the Russians for deconfliction and they blow the stuff up.

Moral of the story - get your own AD umbrella or offer something worthwhile in exchange for services rendered.

Russia already bailed Iran`s botched mission to assist Syria - losing 90% of the country before the Russians intervened - thank you very much Iran. Surely they don`t have to wipe your asses too?

Yes but I doubt the Assad govt has any control over much of this stuff going on out there.

Iran has bought Yak-130s and they wont be needing those if they weren't going to be buying something else... I suspect Su-35s will be on the menu as a good replacement for the F-14s.

MiG-29Ms locally produced or MiG-35s would be a good replacement for the F-4s and F-5s they had, but then that reveal of the AESA radar and IIR optics pod and the wingtip mounted EW pods and jammer pods to turn the Yak-130 into a light fighter might be directed at Iran and could possibly be fitted to their version of the F-5 as well.

I suspect Iran would be interested in navigation and command and control equipment from Russia that they could buy with gas and oil... I suspect their other sources for electronics will be China who might accept payment in oil or gas, but equally might demand US dollars which would be difficult for Iran to source.


Recent events will make Russian communications devices more attractive to Middle East countries and they will want to receive them direct of course.

Many electronics suppliers just burned a few bridges, whether they cooperated or not.
