I agree. But switching oil inputs is going to be harder for Europe to do than a lot of people think. Russian oil is heavy and is good for making diesel which is what most of Europe uses in the first place. It will require a huge investment to change things around. Fracked oil is also useless since it is mostly lighter elements and you would be hard pressed to even refine gasoline out of it. The US will have to get either Canadian or Venezuelan oil or both into the refineries in the US Gulf Coast. Those are heavy oils good for diesel and aviation gas.

How do you back a currency with a commodity price?
A price is something that requires a currency, therefore you are backing a currency with a currency and that doesn't make sense.

Russia and China can issue a common digital currency backed by gold to settle international debt. They both have enough gold, and being a new currency, you can determine the initial exchange rate for gold and how much currency is issued. Also with a digital currency you can program a use by date so investors don't horde it, that way it keeps being used for international settlement rather than speculative investment.

To really put salt in the wound, due to fee collection issues, Russia could offer free overflights to non sanctioned airlines for a period. Then those airlines would not be trading with Russia

I am pleased Bermuda is revoking the licences of Russian planes... they did it as a tax dodge so **** them... dirty bastards.

With all the western planes they buy and dirty tactics to avoid paying proper levels of tax I rather suspect those Russian airlines need a good cleanout of western managers and accountants for good.
