Propably part of the "maskirovka". They know that NATO could see the preparations via satellites. So all the "defenders" of Kiev were moved towards Gostomel and other possible landing sites giving the armored columns space and time to move into place to lock down even more "defenders".

When do you people accept that general staffs don´t work that way, at least the russian one? There was no Plan A or B. There is and nearly endless ammount of plans for all circumstances.

The move towards Kiev was a feint from the beginning. You can´t just send in a few hundred soldiers that slowly advance if you want such a maneuver to fool your enemy. You have to send in thousands, that´s why that 60km long column of armored vehicles and trucks appeared north of Kiev.

Did they hope that the political leadership of the regime would collapse or be replaced by some officers in a coup? Sure. But the hundreds of cruise missiles flying into "Ukraine" destroying the air force and air defence tells me that nobody waited for that to happen.

All this stories about "soft-handed" approach or betrayal by someone were created after the first stage of the operation was finished and some dumbasses couldn´t grasp what had happened.

Of course the Nazi Wehrmacht deserves to being annihilated, but the "playing nice" has to do with the large number of civilians living in that area which belongs to the DPR/LPR/Russia. The last think the Russians want is to kill their fellow compatriots.

A Russian Pantsyr-S air defense system shot down a Ukrainian Su-25 ground attack plane and 12 Grad rockets over Snake Island in the Black Sea, with no casualties reported among the island’s garrison, Defense Ministry Spokesman Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov reported on Sunday.

"The enemy made yet another unsuccessful attempt to deliver strikes by aircraft and multiple launch rocket systems against Snake Island. A Pantsyr-S anti-aircraft missile/gun system thwarted the attack, shooting down a Su-25 plane of the Ukrainian Air Force and 12 rockets. There are no casualties among the garrison’s personnel and no destruction," the spokesman said.

The Russian air defense forces also eliminated eight Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and 19 rockets, including shells over Snake Island, Konashenkov reported.

"Russian air defense capabilities eliminated eight Ukrainian UAVs near the settlements of Varvarovka and Rai-Aleksandrovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic, Belyayevka in the Kherson Region, Malaya Kamyshevakha and Maliye Prokhody in the Kharkov Region," the spokesman said.

The Russian air defense systems also shot down 19 shells of multiple launch rocket systems near the communities of Suligovka, Glinskoye and Sukhaya Kamenka in the Kharkov Region, Makeyevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic and over Snake Island, the general said.

The Pantsyr is a Russian ground-based self-propelled surface-to-air missile/gun system designated to shield military and civilian facilities, including long-range air defense systems, from all existing and future air attack weapons.

What explains the undefended special forces groups that got hit around Kiev ? If there was some kind of deal in place, it would make sense to send small groups of special forces to govt buildings to meet up with them. Similar to the Crimea op. But some of them were completely ambushed. This probably didn't happen near to the extent that the media made it look. But it did happen in some areas.

There has been rumors that 120 FSB officers were fired or arrested or something a couple weeks into the war. I only mention it because I heard it from some pro Russia sources too. Is there any truth to this ? Im just asking.

Some of this stuff in the first few days just points to a Crimea style op gone wrong.

I do think the army will return to Kiev, but only once donbass is sanitized

That will also be when zelensky will fly out of the country

All the western bullshit of negotiations are just to keep the fighting going

Once donbass is cleared, the army will go back to February 24 style operations

It seems Vitaly Gerasimov was killed on March 8 around Kharkiv, despite being seen shaking hands with Kadyrov in Mariupol after that. Strange uh.

Man. The Daily Mail. Typical BS. This is probably a little hint of reality mixed a huge wallop of fantasy. I would not be surprised if the Russian general staff wants to give field generals command experience, or a refresher, and is rotating them around to do just that. And it is being misconstrued as some kind of purge.

As for the "FSB purge" I would not be surprised if there was something of the sort since at least in Kharkiv there seems to have been an attempt at a handover which went seriously wrong. But at the same time the SVR/GRU also seem to be doing something right because those cruise missiles keep hitting targets deep in Ukrainian territory with information way, way, too accurate to be satellite intel. And I don't think the drones reach quite there in a regular timetable.
