Re the LDNR forces, apparently with the ongoing fighting for 8 years they due to causalities and higher standards (age, fitness and alcohol) were hard pressed to maintain the 35,000 figure. They upon mobilization probably had 70,000 or so men. Take away 5,000+ KIA along with those severely wounded and you are probably running at 50-55,000 troops active.

Since it has been said that the LDNR forces and volunteers will receive the status of Russian servicemen, wonder if they are included in the 300,000 and or does the 300,000 include the new 137,000 planned plus a top up? All figures that I have seen indicate that prior to the SMO, the total Russian military was at 950-960,000 or 50-60,000 short of the authorized manpower level. Guess time will reveal.

The M-55s are armed with NATO-standard 105mm guns in place of the original 100mm D-10Ts, and have modernized fire control systems and optics, among other improvements, as well as the ability to be equipped with ERA. If this deal goes ahead, Ukraine will have to start receiving NATO-standard 105mm tank ammunition, as well.

That makes more sense... they included 36000 105mm rounds of ammo in the last lot of gifted weapons lists they posted... I assumed 105mm artillery, but tank ammo makes more sense.

Wonder if they will send them good ammo or old expired crap?

Does anyone here really think Ukraine cares about attacking Russia in some way, given that they have been shooting stuff over the border around Belgorod and other places, and in Crimea since the beginning? You are entering a different phase of this conflict, and I suspect it is going to become rather more costly for the western and northern parts of the Ukraine as well as much more dangerous on the front line for the enemy.

Irish Army officer seriously wounded in Kharkiv region

In the media, evidence of heavy losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the offensive in the Kharkiv region is increasingly appearing.  On September 16, the Irish television channel RTE published a report about a group of foreign mercenaries covered up as a result of an ambush by Russian military personnel.

The protagonist of the issue, Brian Meagher, was badly injured and barely survived.

Meagher is 35 years old.  From 2003 to 2018, he served in the Irish Army, after which he worked in a Dublin prison.

In the summer, a father of two joined the Ukrainian "International Legion", lying to his family that he was going to Ukraine as an instructor.  He was allegedly prompted to go to the front by footage from Bucha.

In early September, the Irishman took part in the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region.  Meagher claims that his detachment was formed in 10 days and was in the second echelon of the advancing forces.

The detachment of mercenaries was supposed to clean up the recaptured territories, but was ambushed by a group covering the withdrawal of the main forces.  According to the Irishman, their truck was destroyed by a Russian tank.

“We were in enemy territory on the first day - we were not supposed to be there”

Meagher received shrapnel wounds to the spine, heart, lungs, arms and legs.  Now he is in the hospital and is trying to achieve evacuation to Poland.

However, the Irishman was more fortunate than other "soldiers of failure" from his squad: three mercenaries had their legs amputated, 10 more people were killed, including a veteran of the American special forces.

This fellow is lucky to have survived. He may be an enemy, but I don't take any pleasure in others' suffering, hope he recovers and sits out any more adventures

But this story goes to show how dangerous things are for the Ukrainian forces on the advance

The strikes on Kiev, Sumy, Chernigov, Kharkov must intensify, they must be bombed wherever VSU is found

He apparently speaking only of the regular Armed Forces of both countries. The regular Ukrainian Armed Forces were around 210-225,000 prior to start of the SMO. In addition, the Ukrainian also have National Guards, Border Guards, Territorial Defense and reservists involved.

Building up 2nd and 3rd echelons are good

But make no difference if the first line is sent into an unprepared assault point

You are raising some valid points, but it is too late/early now. First, you need to win the war against Ukraine. 
Children of "elites" will not go to war, you can bet your ass on it.

Should’ve been done a long time ago but better late than never. I hope they have finally woken up and realised the evil scum that they are fighting and finally start hitting the Nazi leadership and infrastructure with scorched earth as they deserve. I am cautiously optimistic but only time will tell.

Some are questioning the 300,000 figure and enough equipment. IMO the following:

- 50-60,000 short of authorized servicemen prior
- 137,000 new authorized servicemen (assume includes LDNR militia)
- 110,000 plus conscripts serving in the Ground and Airborne forces (regiments and brigades have enough equipment for 3 BTG's but only field 2 BTG's due to number of contract servicemen)
= ~300,000

I did think that they'll go for partial mobilization, but earlier on, in the first few months.

As a means of not so much boosting troop numbers, but being able to rotate them and give reservists experience. Because a big pool of experienced fighters would be a necessity if the war were to expand to include war with the Polish army, or whoever.

Now after nearly 7 months of the war we have the partial mobilization finally, which at this stage I wasn't expecting and nor were many other people I suspect. Didn't think that there is still a serious chance of the war expanding but it seems like there is. Either that or they really are scrapping the bottom of barrel in finding volunteers.
Which might be the case. A recent military ad in a shop mentioned taking in people up to 60 y/o. That age limit has just increased and increased. The territorial/regional battalions the leadership came up with. Now offering foreigners an easy path to citizenship through service. Wagner offering prisoners contracts. And of course all the moaning about there not being enough Russian forces at the front.
Well, who knows.

This is a war that Russia will have to win - and they will. NATzo just don't have the balls to take on Russia in a direct confrontation and the cost of doing so will be utter devastation.
