Russia can't afford to play such stupid games with a force as big as HATO... nukes must be the default solution there to make that a non choice for the idiots in the west.

Part of keeping SMO numbers low was apparently intended to permit the bulk of the military to be available to counter NATO if required while the SMO was pursued.

Another part however is that a modern capable integrated and coordinated force should not need parity in numbers to defeat a much larger less coordinated force.

Future plans for the Russian military is not to outnumber the rest of the world or even just sections of it... they need to use mobility and communication and coordination and fire power to grind up enemy forces superior in numbers.... on land, at sea and in the air.

Taking on 300k combat-experienced reservists would allow 300k of regular contract military to fight in Ukropisstain while maintaining the conventional deterrence.

Wouldn't 300K combat experienced reservists be better used to fight the orcs and fill new Russian Federation regions as they join the RF... moving the Russian border west for the first time in a long time is probably going to happen so they need to be prepared for it.

Russians supping on western propaganda about this Orc push were demanding action and I think this action has nothing at all to do with these Ukrainian attacks and more to do with a wider plan to absorb parts of the former Ukraine into the Russian Federation... made necessary not by Orc advances, but by referendums taking place as we speak.

Russia does not have to defeat the west... it has to finish breaking ties with it and ignore it... most EU countries want this conflict to end quickly... not to save Ukrainian lives or Russian lives... but so they can get back to business as usual and get back to cheap gas supplies... I think those days are over.

The west pulled all this crap to get the cheapest possible prices for gas but was also investing in other technologies in the hope of making Russian gas no longer necessary for them, and it has all fully backfired completely and they wont admit it and claim Russia is using energy as a weapon... after all these decades of sanctions.... and open hostility...

Honestly Russia and China are better off without the west completely.

Russia is not holding those referendums... the regions they have freed are holding them... and when they hold them things will change... Kiev will likely get even more desperate and throw more into the game... and Putin will likely take that opportunity to have to subdue these crazies for the safety of these new Russian citizens and extend a safety zone 300km into Orc territory because that is the range of US missiles they will likely eventually be supplying... look at the map and how far 300km is on it from currently liberated Ukrainian territory... does that include the places you want to have referendums?

And even if it doesn't when that territory is taken some people in those regions might want to join the RF or they might want to be neutral... either way they have to be protected from the nazis... so move another 300km to protect them... see how that works?

It might all be over tomorrow... Kiev might grow a brain and realise the longer they piss around the more men they lose which is not good for their future economy, but also the more territory they will lose too and their territory is finite.

Urgent solutions are not in Russian interests... getting this done properly is what is needed and that is going to take time.

I think i figured out why Russia is using these Iranian buzz bombs. Russia can hit everything with a rocket based missiles. But it was probably getting expensive. Shooting these weapons every day adds up. But some of these targets could just as easily be hit with these cheap piston powered drones.

I disagree... I would think Russian laser homing artillery shells would probably actually be cheaper than a decent medium sized drone with encrypted data and control channels and a decent payload to kill.

Drones are actually most useful for finding targets... most lack the capacity for effective sized weapons to be carried so it makes more sense to use them for observation and use artillery to actually take out the target.

Iran has a resistance economy that is forced to rely on relatively cheap and effective military equipment. It is good to see when their efforts contribute to the global Anti-American resistance.

Would love to see them making good money selling drones not just to Russia for Ukraine but also Syria and elsewhere.

Kirovograd is also important to have some strategic distance of the border from the nuclear powerplant that is located on the northern part of Nikolaev oblast.

The regions they liberate don't have to join the Russian federation... they can become new states, but they have to be neutral and the Russian forces can continue to liberate more of the former Ukraine to eliminate the threat of shelling by Kievs forces which will only stop when they are defeated.

On a serious note, they'll need weeks just to call up adequate 300k. Some will start training in the meantime. With 3 months of training, we can expect to see numbers in Ukraine changing around New Year or so.

So they can move troops into Ukraine in winter time... sounds like a good time to cut off gas to the hostile western countries supplying weapons and money to Kiev...

Just read those western articles that TOR and Pantsir failed to hit drones, helos and that's how Ukrainian TB2 drones were able to hit Russian targets . What they don't mention is that U.S/NATO QR-SAMs will also fail to hit Russian drones, helos on several occasions.

Yet drones and artillery rockets like HIMARS and all types of Orc aircraft get shot down every day... how many Russian weapons are being shot down every day?

Mast mounted radars look down on targets, can hence pick up a lot more target signature to extract data from.

Mast mounted radar are to get up above ground clutter to see low flying targets further away... they don't pick up more or less "signature" of the target.

Pulse doppler radar detects moving targets by the change in frequency of the radar waves that hit the moving target compared with the frequency of the waves that hit stationary things around the target like the ground.

You don't need PD radar any more to spot very low targets... the processing power of modern radar means you can look at a sequence of returns and compare the radar returns for any monolithic returns that are moving but also moving together.

So radars are optimized for picking up threats at specific ranges. If a target is too close (very small, point blank, low alt)could get below the radar coverage but that's unlikely given radar placement of TOR, Pantisr, plus it's a chopper. Blind spots are covered by EO sensor too.

Russian air defence systems are networked and work together and if a target is too close for what? Pantsir has two twin barrel 30mm cannon firing 30mm cannon shells at 5K rounds per minute.

So what Russia will probably do is tweak their radar algorithms, filters accordingly. Put more power for this many seconds, don't reject targets unless processed thrice etc etc. This is why tests are done. Simulations only go so far.

Russia has been shooting down drones since Georgia 2008 and their air defence systems have only gotten better... even their Kornet ATGMs are optimised to shoot down drones... they have a customised HE Frag armed missile especially for that... range is 10km horizontally and vertically.

Russia isn't scalping everyone to get maximum income at a desperate time... european countries arming Kiev against Russian forces could get long term cheaper gas contracts if they wanted them... but I suspect Russian gas supplies to Europe are going to dry up to those countries arming Kiev pretty soon.
