What Putin actually said was "There is currently no need for additional large-scale missile strikes on Ukrainian targets." which most certainly does not mean "will no longer destroy the infrastructure in Ukraine", far from it.

And there are some here who think the war is going badly because Putin won't storm into Ukraine and take over the whole country, a measure that would cost a lot of lives. They also think Putin is somehow calling off airstrikes or won't use that 300,000 to obtain objectives he has from this war. But look at that Kiev is getting kalibrated again tonight. What is it, a good 5 days so far? Also, while those troops in Belarus and the south might be there for "defense" I tend to believe that like in American gridiron football that the Kremlin is thinking the best defense is a good offensive.

The point is, he's sounding weak and defensive. He shouldn't be talking like this in public when the whole of the West+Ukraine wants to destroy him and his country into irrelevancy as much as they can. They label him a war criminal and killer, he shouldn't be trying to sound like he's fair and meek to them, it projects weakness and the West will pounce on that.

This has already cost Putin recently...He was trying to be "fair" and "nice" and not threating or "dictatorial" like and signed the grain deal. How nice of him...now look what that nice gesture accomplished. Not only has the grain not been going to the most needy like it should have but the Ukrainians, with assistance from the West, bombed the Kerch bridge. Which will take until next summer and maybe even later to repair to full functionality. Now Putin has stated that if it is found out that the Ukrainians used the terms of the grain deal to get the bombs on the truck and go through Russian territory to commit a terrorist act, he will terminate the deal. Deal should've never been made in the first place, not at a time of war like this.

They took his kindness for weakness and him continuing to project weakness will only yield similar results. Actions matter but tone and what you say are also important, especially in the propaganda space. I don't like what I'm hearing from Putin.

It's a war of attrition, probably end up mostly fought on economic grounds.
Wait long enough, until the EU and US pull their funding out of the Ukraine project, and I am not talking about dollars conjured out of thin air, I am talking about weapons, food, energy, the real stuff that matters.

US is up for a mid term election next month, where the current government is expected to loose control of Congress, meaning it may be much harder for Biden to approve sending stuff to Ukraine.

There is a good chance the EU economy will collapse over winter, they have about 1/3rd. of the LNG stored up that they would use in a normal winter. They didn't allow for expanding their gas storage capability, nor the huge impact on food supply that reduced natural gas would have.

Putin has just reduced Ukraine's electricity production, so they are no longer exporting to the EU.

I reckon by Xmas we should know if the attrition is working, or if Russia needs to increase blowing things up.

Using nuclear weapons in Ukraine makes no sense, there are no targets with worth enough for attack with a tactical atomic weapon
IF NATO attacks directly to Russia, then if there are targets like Ramsteim, Sigonella, Aviano, Rota, etc... that should be destroyed with atomic weapons
