I just did a little mental sampling with obvious things, one of them for example being the Finnish APCs which have a characteristic shape and cannot be confused with anything else. We have confirmation of two, and there are none in the Turkish Oryx list.

This of course is something clearly unique, so with much more common vehicles, the room for fakery and deception is incredibly wide.

The US is unlikely to enter a direct war with Russia over Ukraine. There is, at least for now, no mobilization for this. I don't think there's even enough internal support for such a thought. If Ukraine starts to collapse, they will force a deal, even a bad one, so they don't lose everything.
It's the most likely, I think.

Why would they need to retreat though? They’ve been sending huge reinforcements for weeks now to that area. It’s been held for months now so it must be prepared for any attack? The Russians would know just how hard it would be to get back across the river were they to cough it up and given that they flooded uki pontoons up north etc they would surely know that similar tactics would be used against them in Kherson and would have enough resources across it to hold the line.

On October 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the Security Council. Members of the Security Council discussed countering threats to national security, in connection with which the head of state made a number of important decisions. The main theses are in the Izvestia article.

Martial law in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.

On the territory of the new regions of the Russian Federation, by decree of the head of state, a martial law regime is introduced from October 20 . Coordinating headquarters will be created in each subject with the support of the Ministry of Defense. In addition, the heads of regions will be given additional powers to ensure security.


The Federation Council has already promised to consider the decree of the head of state on martial law as soon as possible.

Average level of response in a number of regions of the Russian Federation

Also, law enforcement officers get the right to restrict the movement of vehicles and conduct their thorough inspection.

Compliance with the terms of payments to mobilized

Putin also instructed to strictly observe the terms of payments to the mobilized military.

“I want to emphasize once again that we are proud of everyone who enters military service today, fulfills his duty to defend the fatherland. And those of our soldiers, no matter what tasks they perform, must be provided with everything necessary,” the head of state said.


At the same time, the monthly payment is set at 195 thousand rubles. In addition, the heads of the regions, together with the Public People's Front, were instructed to provide support to the families of mobilized Russians.

Changes in migration policy

Alex Christophoru is of absolutely 0 authority in military matters. Not that any of us are better. But just putting that out there. He's not involved in the operation nor has access to any information that isn't public.

IMO if there is a retreat, it will only be performed with the express intent of leading more Ukrainian-NATO forces into firing zones.

Kherson itself won't be given up, it's too strategic and will open the way for the Ukraine to shell the Crimea too - something Putin will not allow.

If the Ukrainians got Kherson then they could just dam the canal to Crimea again so Russia will not allow Ukraine to control it for any large amount of time.

The attack today was repelled with ease. There are voices out there that think that all these talk about a tense situation and the evacuation is a trick to lure the UkroNazis into a larger attack. But I think kvs is right, the regime got only a few thousand fighters there, most of which are territorial defence (barely cannon fodder).

The other Alex stated that what he has read from reports in the area, is that the areas being evacuated are far closer to the Western border and gets hit continuously, and that the Russian forces have increased in the are with apparent fortifications going on. If that's the case, then yeah, those areas will be prime targets for Ukrainian/nato missiles and thus the Russians are moving the civvies out. These people may end up in Kherson city or further east. Don't know.

As I implied, when there are only a few mercs then they can indeed be pushed around, even killed, by their Nazi back stops.  But if there are say a company of say Polish or mixed mercs then it would be a different kettle of fish.

Can't see the mercs standing for inferior living conditions either.

Part of the angst of not being at home is the possibility (I don't know how it works) of the family enjoying his danger money.

I don't think they are being paid high wages. At the start of the war there was complaints my volunteers/mercenaries about low wages and some left because of it. And how are these troops being paid? The troops on the ground won't be allowed comms with loved ones back home. And your loved ones can't enjoy your wages if your dead, and I wouldn't put it past the neo Nazi masters telling people's families that their son, father etc is dead simply to avoid paying them as I said earlier no way for these troops to communicate back home to tell them otherwise. The only people sure to making a lot of money is the neo Nazi masters, Ukrainian government and zekensky. They will flee Ukraine once it's game over, leaving the troops, volunteers and mercenaries with various war injuries, loss limbs etc and suffering from PTSD all without support, (a little bit like what the British government did to it's ex service personnel) there will come a time when Ukraine hits tilting point when it's troops, mercs, generals etc turn on zekensky and his neo Nazi zealots The question is when.
