A curious fact is that the Russians did not eliminate these American mercenaries, despite the fact that mercenaries are not covered by the Geneva Convention.
Perhaps one of the reasons the western elite are fighting so hard is because they think the Russians and Chinese are ruthless evil bastards like they are and fear how they will be treated if everyone becomes equal.

The whole concept of one currency for all the European economies is stupid, but it was never going to work... I am surprised they kept up the pretense so long.

The role of NATO itself was to keep the Soviet Union out, the Americans in, and the Germans down.
They were using different methods, but the goal was stable.
