Their mistrals were made for ka-52 since the begining.

Right ,AFAIK Russia has started to add the blade-folding system after some operations in Syria , late 2017 .

That's true. Except they were intended to house the Ka-52K or Katran, the naval version which was still being developed at the time and that model has the folding rotors and most likely anti-corrosive paint for the sea environment etc. These were supposedly the land-based Ka-52s and what makes them even more interesting that they have this rotor folding modification is that Egypt signed a tender agreement for 36 or so Katrans, specifically for the 2 mistrals but things never developed beyond that tender.
So at some point they must've decided to modify a certain number of the 50 or so Ka-52s in the EAF for carrier duties until either the Katran contract happens or they go a different route or stay with this setup. But they'll need more helos so they don't take away from the number of land-based attack choppers.

Re: Egyptian Air Force (EAF)
So a very interesting photo came out with this huge demonstration of the new naval base in Marsa Matruh. A photo of the 4 Mirage 2000s that were flying was subsequently posted online except it wasn't from that flight since the Mirages were carrying a surprise cruise missile in the UAE/Denel coop Al-Tariq Air to Ground cruise missile.
Notice anything peculiar about the aircraft?
It has a range of up to 120km with all sorts of additional advanced features.
I highly doubt they were flying during this exhibition while carrying these missiles, but you never know. It was hard to tell since they only made one quick pass while flanking an E-2C Hawkeye on both sides.
BUT, what's even more fascinating and what originally caught most of us' eyes was the fact that the Mirages had their insignias covered and we missed the missiles. We were more taken aback by the covered insignias to notice the missiles which were later pointed out by an Egyptian military enthusiast on Twitter.
Someone from Greece then later commented that this was not new to see the EAF Mirage 2000's without their colors) or covered up with paint) and the last time they were spotted that way was when they were in Greece participating in Skyros 2021 with the Hellenic Air Force earlier in the year.
Between the above pic and the one with the missiles, it's clear that they're covering up the colors for most likely interdiction strikes into Libya, which brings up the Watiya attack against the Turkish MIM-23 Hawk SAMs could've certainly been performed by this group of aircraft and those missiles.
Then when they're back, remove that environmentally safe covering paint and this is what they usually look like.

Its not a cruise missile The Al Tariq bomb guidance system is a guidance system that provides free-dropping (dumb) bombs to convert them into smart, high-precision guided bombs. The system is very excellent to take advantage of the stock of free-dropped Dumb MK bombs by converting them into guided smart bombs It has 3 variants starting from 40Km range to 200km rangeGomig-21 wrote:So a very interesting photo came out with this huge demonstration of the new naval base in Marsa Matruh. I have no problem calling it a cruise missile because that's essentially what the kit turns that specific missile ordinance into. It's much closer to a cruise missile than just a guided bomb kit that turns whatever ordinance from a dumb bomb to a precision guided one, or missile. In this case, it's a missile and not a bomb.
The former is more like the HAMMERs or (Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range) on the Rafales or even JDAM kits. But this is a "winged" guidance kit that is actually installed on a very advanced and autonomous missile with enhanced navigation and a weapon system that is capable of being digitally integrated on aircraft requiring either MIL-STD-1760 or DIGIBUS interfacing. The missile with the kit is equipped with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Receiver technology as well as a highly sophisticated GPS anti-jamming solution, just like a cruise missile heck it's almost like a Tomahawk, minus the range and payload!
The Al Tariq is actually a take-off of the South African Denel company's Umbani PGM. Since EDGE of UAE -- which makes this Al-Tariq and the other variants of missiles in the pic above -- has bought part of Denel or all of it or something along those lines, it's been able to use its ToT privileges and create its own versions of existing systems. Very smart move by the UAE.
The original Umbani.
So once you have all those capabilities and then add WINGS on the damn thing so it can glide or skim for 120 km to it's target and then KABOOM.......! Might as well be a cruise missile.
Check out the 'System Features'.

Re: Egyptian Air Force (EAF)
Ahmedfire Basha, do you know if the Harpoon Block II in the EAF & Navy inventory has the land attack capability also? Or is it limited only to anti-ship capability and that's it? Seems like if they're using it on the F-16s that it would have the land attack ability and be a little more versatile than just the anti ship one, especially when it's in the newer Block II version. Any idea?

Looks like Sukhoi has just wrapped up another batch of 11 brand spanking new Su-35SEs for the EAF all ready to be delivered. Apparently this was in the news in Russia today. Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant.

Almost. Two jets are parked by the hanger, then there's those red and orange buses or whatever they are that are not in the first pic as well as the 2 parked Sukhoi 22 or whatever those jets are in the earthy camouflage.
If you read the comments, the guy who posted it says that pic was in the news today. So I guess it's if you believe it or not. Either way, it would be nice at some point to see them in EAF colors and flying in Egypt soon.

Re: Egyptian Air Force (EAF)
Hard to tell if those are R-77-1 or the R-77-AE. My bet is that they're the regular shorter range less improved R-77-AE or just R-77.
But the other interesting part is the two end MiG-29M/M2/35 are the rarer 2-seat models of which the EAF only has 4 of them IIRC.
This was taken about a month ago in an exercise with the Sudanese air force sending a message to Ethiopia and the GERD,

Re: Egyptian Air Force (EAF)
There is a size difference between RVV-AE and RVV-SD.
Here you can measure the lenght of mig-29 knowing its real size and measure the lenght of the missile. With a cross product it will give you the real size of the missile.
