The first evidence of the presence of Buk-M2 air defense systems in Algeria
According to the Algerian resource "MenaDefense" in the material "Premières traces du BUK-M2 en Algérie", there was first evidence of the presence in Algeria of Russian Buk-M2 air defense systems. On photos placed by the resource, 9M317 missiles are seen in transport containers. Another photo shows the calculation of a combat vehicle after firing in southern Algeria.

Re: Algeria People's National Armed Forces
Algerian television published footage from the annual exercises of the Algerian army MAJD 2017, which are held on the border with Morocco. Traditionally, parts of the Algerian army in this area are not equipped with the latest technology, which turns the exercises into a kind of time machine for the viewer. This technique is in service with the Algerian mechanized units, while the tank divisions are manned by the T-72 and T-90SA tanks.

Re: Algeria People's National Armed Forces
Sorry for posting this here but it seems that under the GLOBAL defence and strategic issues section of this forum seems to forget / leave out the whole continent of Africa ( although Egypt seems to be included in the middle east! ! ! )
I think it's overdue for the section of Africa to be included if not then you can't call it global defence and strategic issues as it clearly doesnt cover the globe. Ok rant over now to questions and some news.
Below set aside the norm for mounting weapons I.e zu-23-2 and D-30, but interesting that MT-12 has been mounted giving not just artillery fire but also anti tank capabilities, and I think its the first time I've heard of it being mounted on a vehicle and first time for Kornet being mounted on BTR series. Great use of old BTR-60 although I think it would have been better keeping the 14.5mm gun etc and adding the kornet been even if they insistedon removing it they could have at least kept the 7.62mm PK gun for protection against infantry . With upgradesold stuff becomes more usefurl. Shame no pictures of these two systems. (Questions after the link)
Algeria has for the first time showcased two modified self-propelled artillery systems and other weapons mounted on numerous platforms during a public showcase.
At the beginning of July, Algeria hosted a Military Industry Fair on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of its independence and Youth Day in Algiers. Some of the items on display included a 122 mm D-30 (2A18) howitzer fitted on a 6x6 Mercedes-Benz Zetros vehicle with four stabilisation legs that drop down at the back and both sides.
Another previously unseen type was a 100 mm MT-12 (2A29) anti-tank gun mounted on a 6x6 Zetros truck. This features longer hydraulically articulated stabilisers that can reach the ground.
Other vehicles displayed included a Mercedes-Benz Unimog truck with a 23 mm ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun mounted on the back, a Nimr Ajban 4x4 vehicle armed with a remote weapon station and BTR 60 with Kornet anti-tank missiles.

Does anyone know what upgrades were carried out by Russia on Algerian BMP - 1's
And what ATGW systems Algeria use. And how many MT-12 they have.

Re: Algeria People's National Armed Forces
Modernization by Uralvagonzavod of T-72M1 tanks in Algeria
On the web, a photograph of the tanks of the Algerian Army was lit. It is noteworthy that in one photo at once two types of cars - T-90S (Article 188CA) and "old-good" T-72M1.
If you have already written about the Algerian version of the T-90S, then it's worthwhile to talk a little more about the modernization of the T-72M1 for Algeria.
In 2006, the Algerian Ministry of Defense announced and held a correspondence tender for the modernization of tanks of the T-72 type with the participation of the leading developers of tank JMAs - Ukraine, South Africa, etc.
JSC Scientific Production Corporation Uralvagonzavod and JSC UKBTM, under the auspices of Rosoboronexport, decided to participate in this tender. In the same 2006, in the shortest time, according to the documentation developed by UKBTM and using the upgrade kit, the product was modified and tested on the customer's premises. From FSUE UKBTM, the deputy chief designer AL Terlikov (head of the brigade, now the chief designer of UKBTM), A.Yu. Tushin, A.M. Zaitsev and V.P.Dyukov took part in the modernization of the tank and its tests. The Russian project made a positive impression on the customers, as a result of which in May 2008, a contract was signed to upgrade the T-72 tanks in Algeria. It should be noted that an important role in the preparation of this contract was made by the head of the department of export-import relations, AVTarantin, and the chief specialist of UKTBM V.T. Yurinov, as well as the heads of the team of Russian specialists AAAnaniev, V.A. Pavlov and V.A. .Georginov, who made a great contribution to the organization of the implementation of both the contract itself and the creation of a favorable psychological climate among specialists.
The 172M2A Product Tank, modernized in the interests of the armed forces of Algeria from the T-72M1 base product, was distinguished by the presence of a SAM including a multi-channel gunner's sight Sosna, a remotely controlled machine gun, a curtain system. The new gun 2A46M5 is also installed on the modernized machines. There were proposals to strengthen protection by installing the DZ "Relict", but the Algerian side decided to save and upgrade due to improved firepower, leaving the decision to protect "for later." Thus 159 line tanks were modernized and 21 more commanders. A total of 180 pieces.

Did I read correct that a SAM system was installed I. E manpad or was it the SAM sight that would control the automatic gun?
Belarus designed the 2T stalker based on T-72 which main gun replaced by 30mm gun,
7.62mm gun, but added ags-17, anti tank AT-6 missiles and Sa-18 it was designed as a recce vehicle I actually thought it was kinda good. But as a lighter armour option you could have
bmp-3 with the added ags-17, AT-6 and Sa-18 but of you could use newer systems. Or another system for recce could just be a Bmpt terminator and just add Verba

If they replace the lookout turrets with armed ones, add some firing ports - it will become a very good mobile bunker against zombie hordes.
Anyway PapaDragon it's April 1st and I'm pretty sure you've been had...
they wouldn't to order more than 5 of them.

As it was talking about optics I suspect it is a acronym that does not translate properly... the sosna they are referring to is a thermal gunners sight and is not related to the Sosna-R SAM.
The only anti aircraft capable missile I have ever seen associated with the T-72 russian upgrades are the gun launched laser beam riding missiles with a HE warhead for dual ground and air use.
