And, one more surprise, the new project 20386 Mercury will also join the Black Sea Fleet.

It looks like that not only the Retyivy, but also the Strogy are destined to go to the Black Sea Fleet.
And, one more surprise, the new project 20386 Mercury will also join the Black Sea Fleet.

Interesting
Are they doing it because they feel that Baltic Fleet is sufficiently stocked or because Black Sea Fleet is short on vessels? Or both?
They said that 6 Karakurts will be going to Baltic and Neustrashimyy frigate will be rejoining fleet soon in addition to 4 Steregushis and 2 Buyans already there so it could be that they feel that Baltic is covered enough especially considering that all sensitive places are reachable by anti-sub helicopters from land?
Also are there any updates on rumors about possible order for 10 more Steregushi corvettes for Pacific Fleet?

No updates yet.
Today, in a Defense Ministry meeting, Shoigu himself confirmed that the Kasatonov frigate, P. Morgunov landing ship will participate in the Navy Day parade on 26 July.
So, these 2 ships will be commissioned by then.

That looks like a substantial de-cluttering of the mast. Which means new radars?

Not necesserly. Such aesa radar are more easy to integrate on a mast contrary to old antennas. Maybe it's only internal reorganization.

Re: Project 2038.0: Steregushchy Corvette
Corvette “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov” getting ready for shipment to Vladivostok
As the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) JSC reported on May 25, 2020, a technological operation was carried out at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur to corvette project 20380 “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov” (factory number 2103) in the transport and launch dock "Zeya".
In early June, the corvette will leave the water area of the Amur Shipyard and begin the transition to the delivery base of the enterprise in Vladivostok, where factory sea and state trials await it.
Preparation for launching the corvette “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov” of project 20380 (serial number 2103) into the outfitting and launching floating dock “Zeya” for transportation to Vladivostok for the Russian Navy for the Russian Navy for the corvette “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov”. Komsomolsk-on-Amur, 05.25.2020 (c) United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC
The third in a series under construction at the shipyard, a multi-purpose patrol ship (corvette) of project 20380 “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov” was laid down at the Amur Shipyard on July 22, 2015.
On the bmpd side, we recall that the third and fourth corners of the Project 20380 for the Amur Shipyard with serial numbers 2103 and 2104 are being built at Amur Shipbuilding Plant JSC (NPS, part of the USC) in Komsomolsk-on-Amur under state contract No. З / 1/1/0268 / GK-15-DGOZ of June 4, 2015. The deadline for the state contract is 2020. The laying ceremony for the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy corvette "Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov" of project 20380 (serial number 2103) was held at the Shipyard on July 22, 2015. On September 12, 2019, a ceremony took place to withdraw the corvette from the boathouse of the plant to the outfit and transport and launch floating dock "Zeya", and on October 21, 2019 the ship was physically launched from a floating dock.
On July 1, 2016, in Komsomolsk-on-Amur at the NEA, a bookmarking ceremony for the Russian Navy “Rezkιy” corvette (serial number 2104) was held.
Previously, the contract for the construction of the first two Pacific corvettes of Project 20380 with serial numbers 2101 and 2102 was signed by the NEA with the Russian Ministry of Defense on January 26, 2006. The main corvette for the NEA project 20380 "Perfect" (serial number 2101) was laid down at the enterprise on June 30, 2006, but turned into a long-term construction and was eventually withdrawn from the boathouse of the factory to the floating dock "Zeya" only on May 22, 2015. Corvette "Perfect" began factory sea trials on January 30, 2017 and was transferred to the Russian Navy in Vladivostok on July 20, 2017. The second “Loud” corvette (serial number 2102) was laid down at the NEA only on April 20, 2012, removed from the boathouse of the plant to the Zeya floating dock on July 28, 2017, and was handed over to the Russian Navy in Vladivostok on December 25, 2018.
From the previous corvettes of project 20380, the Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov ships (serial number 2103) and Rezkiy (serial number 2104) differ mainly in the installation of the new Zaslon multifunctional radar system with the placement of fixed antennas in a tower-like superstructure, similar to corvettes project 20385. The Zaslon radar complex is also installed on two corvettes of project 20380, which are now being built at PJSC Severnaya Verf Shipyard in St. Petersburg - Retivy (serial number 1007, launched March 12, 2020) and " Strict ”(serial number 1008).
It was reported that the NEA could in 2021 receive a contract of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the amount of over 180 billion rubles for the construction of 10 more corvettes of project 20380 for the Pacific Fleet by 2035.

Same Zaslon suite as 20385/6.That looks like a substantial de-cluttering of the mast. Which means new radars?
Not missing, relocated to above the main panels. The two ECM antennas on the sides are missing
You can see them here:
Definitely a cleaner look, though there does appear to be some detail difference between Retivy & Aldar

Same one as Gremashii and Mercury? That's a sweet upgrade, did not expect that
Looks to me that they opted for larger mast in order to simplify maintenance access and to leave extra space for upgrades down the road
Only thing left is for MoD to sign that order for 10 ships for Pacific and this class is golden

By the way, did they mention if they are going to build the base version with Kh-35 (Uran) launchers or the 20385 version with UKSK?
And... is it true that some of the 20380 already built or being built are going to the black sea fleet?

It will be Uran version, priority is anti-sub work for them so Kh-35 are good enough
20385 will be stopping at 4 ships
They designed the whole class around MTU engines and no other can fit, this class is finished
Rodion_Romanovic wrote:...And... is it true that some of the 20380 already built or being built are going to the black sea fleet?
Yes, two upcoming 20380 and first 20386 (Mercury)

I though they mounted kolomna engines on the first 2 20385, since they did not even get the MTU engines for those...
And about UKSK, there is a antisub version of Kalibr that could be quite useful...
Also because 20380s don't carry antisub rocket weapons like RBU-6000 (even if they are short range weapons...)

Kolomna engines are half baked solution but it's the only thing they could do, it would be wasteful to scrap two almost completed ships
As for UKSK it would take complete redesign of Steregushi-class to fit them (Gremashi-class is already completely overstuffed as a result)
It's cheaper and more logical to just design new class from scratch
Steregushi has helicopter and torpedos which is more than enough to hunt subs
RBU-6000 is useful in shallow waters not in Pacific

Re: Project 2038.0: Steregushchy Corvette
Well...they could probably work together with a couple of karakurt missile ships...
And anyway they are way better than the indian camera class ASW corvettes...
As far as new class, that would be the 20386, which displacement is about 1000 tons more... but it seems to be also quite expensive...
P.S. good news for the 20380 and 20386 in the black sea fleet...

Re: Project 2038.0: Steregushchy Corvette
For anti sub use on smaller vessels there is the Medvedka system... it is similar to the 91ER1/2 but does not require a UKSK launcher.
It has a range of about 20km or so but I think the payload torpedo is the same...
Didn't they buy some Chinese diesels to replace the German diesels but had reliability issues?

Using the already built Steregushchiy as flottilla leader for Karakurt/Buyan-M would make perfectly sense as one model cover the role the other(s) actually don't.
Gremyashchiy with USKS are truly multirole and would be perfect for Mediterranean sea and Pacific Fleet (until the limit of Kuril Island ZEE).
20836 would probably be the ocean-going version an would be good to perfect as a long range escort for Ivan Grens and new heli carriers (and Iranian tankers;) ).

Interesting about the medviedka system... is it installed on the 20380? The wiki page of medviedka says so, and that it will be later installed also on Gorshkov class, but I could not find it among the weapons listed for those ship classes...
Ok for the 20836 as escort for Ivan Grens (including also the larger 8000 tons modified class) and possibly occasionally even tankers, but I believe that the new helicarrier should be accompanied by something larger as well, like 1 or 2 Gorshkov class frigates at least.marcellogo wrote:

Re: Project 2038.0: Steregushchy Corvette
I don't really care which version they go with but they need to settle on a particular design & build a lot of them.
There should be at least 6 in each fleet.
IMO either go relatively cheap with Pantsir-M on the foredeck, downgraded electronics (Pantsir-M 22800 equivalent) & Urans or go big: effectively 20385s with UKSK & 16* Redut.
Either way build a bunch of them.

One thing didn't exclude the other, let's say that I was actually thinking more about an embargo/sanction breaker scenario (hence the tanker metion than about an all out war there: each time the US would try to enforce an unilateral embargo on a country Russia would break it.

Mercury would allow them to do it worldwide, providing a close escort to mercantile vessels. Obviously if tension increase it would be a whole task force instead.

Definitely looks sleeker than vanilla version, now they just need to build more (a lot more)
UKSK version would mean higher price and smaller numbers so in order to get more of them Uran is definitely way to go (it's for self defense anyway)
It's cheaper to just develop new missile for Uran than to design another version with UKSK (they really screwed themselves over with designing Gremashi specifically around imported engines, idiotic mistake)
They could start with navalizing that new hypersonic anti-surface missile that's under development for Su-57 if they really want to go fast with missiles on this ship class

Re: Project 2038.0: Steregushchy Corvette
The proposed Tsirkon light, which will come in a transport and launch container, can replace the Uran-M missiles midships. Could be a close relative to the Su-57 hypersonic missile.
