Anyway, you may very well be right. It may not have been exactly planned by Erdogan as I don't think he is smart enough to pull such a false flag off. But I do think that it is quite a coincidence how the coup workers gave up far too easily and early, as well, how convenient it is for Erdogan - Losing internal and external support, getting lambasted and hated for his tough stance within the country over journalism, support for jihadi's and his constant flip flopping on the international stage; would end up leading him a spot where he can now abuse his power even greater than before, with impunity all in the name of "preserving democracy" against future coup attempts.

I may do some very limited posting at best with mostly scrolling through the forums. I will be doing majority of my posts over at the website I am working on. Due to activity of various individuals that flood this forums while certain other member got hounded too much when he was quite innocent even if we disagreed with him, isn't something I am particularly fond of. That, and having to repeat myself far too many times to certain individuals that flood the forum threads with their disinformation. I wouldn't be too upset about it if it weren't for the fact that new members or people just scrolling through themselves who are not familiar with the posting history of those such individuals, will think they are correct and get the wrong impression on things. And I think that goes contrary to what this forums is about. But that isn't my call.

I think this coup was in the air, probably after the summer when TSK rotates from Kurdistan. Given that the Russians explicitly said they'll pump lead on JaN if they keep moving up in Syria and that they were going to be back by End of August, I think the TAF and Army was simply going to attack after rotation from Kurdistan.
Now given how this thing went and that only two units provided armored vehicles (117XX/119XX) as well as one TAFB (Inçirlik from sources) it was clearly either triggered by something or they thought it would be faster on a friday evening (which personally I find absurd, it's just after the week's prayer).
They didn't gave up easily, they were too few, for whatever reason and the opposition parties rejected the coup. If there was a betrayal there it is, civilians not knowing their luck when it is right under the nose.

One of the persons involved. I think his son in law was also arrested.
Akın Öztürk
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ak%C4%B1n_%C3%96zt%C3%BCrk
Gen. Akin Ozturk, who commanded the air force until August, has been arrested. And Gens. Erdal Ozturk, Adem Huduti and Ekrem Caglar, who commanded the 1st, 2nd and 3rd army divisions, respectively, have been detained, as has Rear Adm. Nejat Demirhan of the coast guard.
President Erdogan’s top military aide, Col. Ali Yazici, also has been detained. Yazici is normally with Erdogan at all times, but the night of the coup, he was in Ankara, and is alleged by the government to have participated in the hostage-taking of Fahri Kasirga, a top presidential aide.

This is just show. Erdogan will never hand them to Russia. Turkey is enemy of Russia since thousands of years ago.

Interesting that most of rebels were breed in US/NATO base İncirlik
but what if successful coup was one of options but not the real objective
The real one might be cut Turkey from NATO (accusations against US), EU (death penalty, crackdown on opposition) and then split into couple of small fighting US dominions?
Now US and EU would have r(self appointed) right to help Kurds in fight with both Assad and Turkey...until both are split into parts. Like they tried to do with Russia in 90´s

Never hand them over to Russia?
They should be so lucky.
I rather suspect they will be executed nice and quick after a show trial so they don't blab to anyone about the fact that they were likely just following orders that came from very high up the chain of command.
Erdogan said at one point he ordered the attack himself... now I am sure he doesn't want that heard in a Russian court... and there is little chance of a court case in Syria...

My wild guess is thet downing Su-24 was US planed and executed action again in "famous" Incirlik base...where coincidentally most of rebels came from.
Erdo said he was not giving order after some time, why? first reprots might be true govt seemed to be caught by surprise. CIA never sleeps.

Precisely what I was implying. Those two guys (so it was twin seater F-16) have become massive liability now that Sultan has decided to back down and make nice with Russia. And we all know that ''accidents'' happen during coups.
Extradition to Russia would be a jackpot for them. Everyone knows that they actually were only following orders (as worn out as it sounds) so at most they would serve single digit number of years of much longer sentence, counting trees before they get suddenly pardoned at diplomaticaly convenient moment. And whole thing from start to finish would be PR motherload for Russia.
But odds of them surviving now are slim. So they have two options for their journey: Russia (unlikely) or Afterlife (safe bet).

Weren't there a pair of F-16s rather than a single one?PapaDragon wrote: Those two guys (so it was twin seater F-16) have become massive liability now that Sultan has decided to back down and make nice with Russia. And we all know that ''accidents'' happen during coups.

Bullshit, so first they're heroes, now they're food for pigs? This is so preposterous, that I hope they get to make that journey in Russia, debrief on who gave the order and the whole chain of command so the next coup is semi-competent at least. They did their job as soldiers. It was shameful and nasty, but this is even worse.

What a LOL country Turkey has become
This is comedy beyond even maidanuts level.
Turkey has basically no army now, totally beheaded. Half of their high officer staff ( hundreds of generals and colonels) arrested and counting. Soon to be replaced by uber competent steroid snackbars from bazaars and football fanclubs.
Kebabian Idiocy of Erdogania

Have been dismissed : - 30 provincial governors - 47 district governors - 8777 Interior Ministry staff (incl. 7850 police) - 2745 judges - 15,000+ teachers - and the purge continues.

This is creating a seriously capable cadre of potential rebels. All fired from high pay/status roles in society and now on the street. Pure genius.franco wrote:Have been dismissed : - 30 provincial governors - 47 district governors - 8777 Interior Ministry staff (incl. 7850 police) - 2745 judges - 15,000+ teachers - and the purge continues.

It would be a shame if some one started losing crates of ammo and weapons, wouldn't it?

From what I read today on news, Turkey just pivoted towards Israel, Russia, & Iran, and away from USA.

The Director of the CIA, John Brennan, is "undoubtedly" played a role in the attempt of a military coup in Turkey, says Lawrence Wilkerson — the former chief of staff to former US Secretary of state Colin Powell.
