Amen, gib Kurds more firepower against Erdoggy's goons, create a wedge and deal with the Kurds. Why not allowing them to have a State. It will basically blow the US levers on the region and change the power balance.franco wrote:The real big test in this conflict is when the Russian Aerospace starts to assist the Kurds in closing the remaining 90 kilometers between their forces along the Turkish border. Agree totally, when this move happens it will really test the US/Turkey relationship. The last thing Turkey wants is Kurds along the whole stretch of that border, both because of the potential political risk inside the country and cutting traffic to/from ISIS etc. Hence Turkish action whenever it looked as if the Kurds were going to cross the Euphrates.KoTeMoRe wrote:Amen, gib Kurds more firepower against Erdoggy's goons, create a wedge and deal with the Kurds. Russian Ministry of Defense wrote:Today a group of journalists has arrived at the #Hmeymim airbase in the course of a press-tour organized by the Russian Defence Ministry. The journalists come from 12 countries of America, Europe and Asia
Almost 50 media representatives will familiarize themselves not only with combat operations conducted by the pilots of the Russian Aerospace Forces, but also with preparation for missions, organization of everyday life, combat aircraft maintenance, and combat sorties.
The Russian Defence Ministry presented to the foreign journalists the objective monitoring data received from the unmanned aerial vehicles concerning the results of combat operations carried out by the Russian aviation against militants’ infrastructure on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic. #SYRIA

The idea is not bad but changing the power quotas among kurd political factions is more difficult than declaring a new state and that's why it has not been done before.JohninMK wrote:Agree totally, when this move happens it will really test the US/Turkey relationship. Is that five Su-30SM tails in the background, if so that's one more than previously announced, unless I missed something? See the red star is proudly back in place.ult wrote:

They certainly let them close to the planes taking off. No health and safety issues on a Russian airbase! Quite unlike a US or NATO base which by definition must therefore be a more dangerous place.
Amazing freedom to wander by the look of it.

This is actually the second time they allow the press to film the takeoffs and landings. They did the same a couple of weeks ago.

In the images on the previous page, Su-34 has the parallel pylons in the tunnel position utilized.

Because unlike Russia NATO spreads terror not the reverse. Nothing heroic in televising your invasion

What sort of condition is it in? Still an airbase, or just a paddock of rubble like Donetsk airport?

Bit of a lull in the southbound Syrian Express over the past 10 days, only 3 ships. This follows the surge of 11 or so ships in the previous 10 days, most of which are on the reverse journey and will be back southbound in the next 10 days.
Whilst a couple of the ships look to be grain ships, Russia is stepping up food deliveries as well as military aid. Most of them are large landing craft on a continuous 18/19 day round trip cycle. Usually the loaded ships travel stern down slightly, they run level when empty. This time 130 Korolev went loaded and level, indicating a heavy load at the front, probably tanks or similar. Also cargo carrying on deck seems to have stopped, possibly due to autumn weather but more likely because there is now internal capacity within the increased number of ships. Perhaps the most important addition that has been photographed is the Alexandr Tkachenko a two deck RO-RO ship primarily intended to carry lots of trucks and containers.
This landing craft based task force seems to be holding up well under continuous operation. I doubt that the designers ever considered their use as military RO-RO ferries.

RT have a news clip showing inside the base, there seems to be a few L-39 cover up under the harden hangers, and out in the open looks like an aircraft grave yard of Mig 15/17/19 not sure if the L-39 are in running order, could be useful to the Syrian air force if they are and are capable of ground attack. Just a crazy thought imagine the Syrian air force overhauled the Mig 15/17/19 and started using them against ISIS scum lol, now that would be making do with what you had lol. Although i think they will all be rotten by now, but if they were in flying condition they could be useful for strafing runs both the Mig 15 and 17 have 1x 37mm gun and 2x 23mm guns and the Mig-19 has 3x 30mm guns not bad for strafing, and all of them can carrying bombs and rocket pods.
