Sweet, it's been over a year since we saw anything from Hmeim AB, I missed that place!  

My amateur guess would be that they done some significant upgrade to that base, a lot of the stuff was clearly off limits to these reporters even though earlier they all had more open access. It shows when you compare it to older footage.

Can't wait for part two.

Agree, looks like some serious upgrades have happened now the RuAF have a long lease on the place.

Perhaps someone will publish an updated satellite photo.

Russian officers deliver aid to civilians and disabled people in Latakia

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:25 A.M.) – Soldiers from the Russian Centre for reconciliation of opposing sides in the Syrian Arab Republic delivered humanitarian aid to disabled people in Latakia, Saturday.

Russian servicemen distributed bags containing food and medicine to members of the Latakia Disabled People’s Society, giving out over 250 packages of rice, flour, sugar and canned meat, as well as a supply of essential medicines.


One of the officers described the humanitarian aid as “long-awaited”, adding that doctors from the Russian special medical unit had provided “qualified medical care” to civilians. Around 50 people received medical assistance on location.

Has Russia given the SAA thermobaric Kornets and Metys-M2s? They're cheap and blow up rats much better than RPGs so its completely logical to give them that.

They probably​ have them but standard RPG is more than enough for SAA.

What do enemies have that would require anything bigger?

SAA is already oversupplied, they need to use what they have before getting more.

Thermobaric ATGMs outrange heavy MGs on rat technicals, autocannon emplacements and AMR sniper fire while RPGs don't.

for those who may not understand:

It is about when Russian forces are able to leave the frontlines and head back to their respective Russian bases in Syria. They predict 2018 is when. So expect heavy Russian presence on frontlines till then. Major effort of Russia is to build up Syria's military capabilities. This shows Russia's dedication and about being in the long haul. Regardless of sanctions or not, Russia is acting like a true partner.

He has a pretty thick Southern Russian/Ukrainian accent, and also claims he is from a Russian PMC.

Some interesting moments:
he says Russian choppers are being used too carefully from a maximum distance, with petty results. The artillery is much more efficient.
He mentions Hezbollah as an efficient fighting force
There are a lot of casualties (KIA and WIA) because of the IEDs among the Russians, but per capita the casualty number is small. [meaning there a lot of them deployed]
That Russian airfield, satellite photos of which where everywhere during the winter with several destroyed choppers - he says it wasn't because of the shelling, but an incident with the stove triggered a big fire, mentions "few/several" Russian soldiers died in fire because they were not fast enough to leave the tent.

like anything else - a mistake. A small tinder can spread into a full fledged fire if left unattended. I've seen fires spread like you wouldn't believe.

Then that means that the units there aren't trained enough with fire safety.
