Another clever idea... a tethered balloon can remain aloft for months and with power supplied through the tether and a fibre optic data link it can actively or passively scan the local territory from a very useful aerial position without burning fuels of any kind so operational costs will be tiny and comparable with a vehicle mounted system but with the view and advantages of an aerial system.

That particular balloon type I have seen sold to China for use in mountains as a signals repeater to extend network connections and also viewing low flying targets in mountainous areas where ground based radar has trouble.

They are designed to be set up in a tethered mode and operate autonomously for up to three months at a time looking for low flying targets and offering cellphone and navigation coverage over very difficult terrain.

According to Bill Newey, Russia should not go to conflict in any way.

That would certainly suit US interests... but would not be much good for Russia watching their Syrian allies getting cleaned up by ISIS or Kurds.

Maybe he meant ' no-one should go into a conflict against the Russians'.

As to the rest of his comments he should have mentioned that few SAA soldiers have helmets. He also clearly put his finger on. but didn't say, the top rate force multiplier that a few Russians represent when attached to SAA units.

The American believed that the Syrians are fighting well, since they liberated almost the entire territory of the country, however, according to his impression, they are worthless without Russians. Russian, Turkish militaries launch joint patrols in Syria

The patrol’s route makes over 110 km

MOSCOW, November 1. /TASS/. The Russian and Turkish militaries have launched a joint patrol mission along the Syrian border, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

"Russian military police officers and Turkish border guards launched the first joint patrol mission along the Syria-Turkey border at 12:15 pm on November 1, 2019," the statement reads. "A joint convoy departed from the Derbisia customs checkpoint, where Russian military police officers had met with Turkish border service members, and is headed west along the Syria-Turkey border," the Defense Ministry added.

"The convoy consists of Russian military police’s Tigr and Taifun armored vehicles, as well as the Turkish border service’s Kirpi armored vehicles. There are nine vehicles in total. Russian military police’s BTR-82 armored personnel carrier is there to ensure the convoy’s safety. The patrol’s route is over 110 km long," the statement added.

Turkey’s Defense Ministry also confirmed the launch of joint patrols. "The first joint patrol mission involving Russian and Turkish military servicemen and unmanned aerial vehicles has been launched in the Derbisia area east of the Euphrates in accordance with agreements reached in Sochi on October 22," the ministry said in a statement.

The Russian military patrolled the area on its own between October 23 and 31.

On October 9, Turkey launched a military incursion into northern Syria, codenaming it Operation Peace Spring, with the Turkish Armed Forces and the Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army carrying it out. The Erdogan government claimed that its goal was to clear the border area of what it calls ‘terrorists’ (Turkey’s broad label of the Kurdish forces) and establish a 30 km-long buffer zone in Syria’s north, where over 3 million Syrian refugees in Turkey would resettle.

On October 22, Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey signed a memorandum on joint actions to resolve the situation in northeastern Syria. According to the document, Russian military police units and Syrian troops were deployed to areas adjacent to the zone of Turkey’s Operation Peace Spring. Kurdish units were given 150 hours to pull out of the 30-km zone along the Syria-Turkey border, while Russian military police and Turkish troops were to launch joint patrols.

If this hold .. the kurds will have to thank Russia for saving their lives.. because it was
going to be a massacre of Kurds .. Where are those who claimed the Kurds were a real
fighting force? if they are so good why they need Syrian army help ?

In reality Kurds only fought a very small minority of ISIS fighters.. left overs..
It should raise eyes ,why would ISIS nearly not capture a single City from Kurds ,
and instead prefer to take the Syrian ones..

Answer.. because they were following orders of US military ,where to go and who to fight..
and ISIS was only authorized to fight Syrian army ,IRAN and Russia. They went all the way to Palmyra
through open desert and risk a fight with Russian airforce and Russian soldiers.. when it was much easier to capture Kurds zones.. it was a game , and terrorist first take land from Syrian army.. and they later pass it to kurds..without much fight.. that is how Kurds took all north Syria east of euphrates..

I wouldn't be surprised if they retrieved a Rampage or similar missile but kept it completely under wraps.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of those Spice bomb fell in Syria during Indian bombing in Pakistan

David's sling missiles were launched against two syrian Tochka missiles in 23 July 2018, but they didn't hit them. Considering that those Tochka missiles hit targets inside Syria, it is normaly to expect, that David's sling missile also fall inside Syria. Israel use many differend most modern bombs and missiles against targets in Syria and many od them were shot down, so remains could be well examened in Russia and with others. Syrian air defense also shot down many Harop suicide drons and it seems Iran got they and developed similar suicide drone, with which Houties successfuly attack oil rafinery in Abqaiq.

There is nothing russia could learn since most of the electronics are the same as the one used in all developed state. A processor, a memory, radar, data link ... without the softwares it is useless. And toshka are easy targets for S-300V from soviet times.

Iran isn't as developed as Russia or Israel so anything can help them improve their own systems. But I doubt they need israeli drones to make a stupid suicide drone. Not really state of the art technology.

They got missile's ARH homing head. They could develope ECM for them.

Yeah but like I said they don't have the softwares runing the homing head. ECCM in those missiles is mostly made by the software so they won't make ECM better than they would without having the missiles in their hands.

Remember also that the missile was traveling at mach 3-4 and crashed with the head hiting the ground first. At the end there should be nothing really interesting in having them. But that's nice for propaganda.
