This translates to "We are fucked".

Sounds like the Taliban took apart arty guns brought them up the mountains resembled them and are now turning the valley into a turkey shot

Taliban takeover of Afghanistan - Page 29 Empty Re: Taliban takeover of Afghanistan

Post  GarryB Sat Sep 04, 2021 1:59 pm

It seems some are of opinion that the best outcome of stability for Afghanistan is that the NRF becomes contained and therefore yields to Taliban and then China or Russia move in .

Russia or China to Move In?

What are the chances of the NRF to defeat the Taliban and kick them out of their own country?

    I would say zero.

What are the chances of them entering a spiral of continuous fighting that gets nastier and more brutal as the years pass?

    Pretty damn good.

The alternative, which the US rejected when it arrived in Afghanistan, is to say that the Taliban are Afghans and the NRF are Afghans... and ISIS are not Afghans they are foreigners... the Taliban and NRF should form a government to rule the country but obviously the NRF can't form a major part of the government because they don't hold enough territory to justify that. They can start by working together to deal with ISIS and the work together to create a better future for all Afghans and start to trade with neighbouring countries.

Again this does not reflect reality on the ground or how politics works . The tribes in Afghanistan can not be contained .

Contained is an American term... the way they contain Russia or contain China... and BTW how is that working out at the moment?

Smaller countries are easier to contain of course like North Korea or Iran perhaps?

They exist as a people with own identity . Containment by other tribes means genocide and ethnic cleansing .

You are not listening... I am not suggesting Russia and China go in and carve up all the resources, I am suggesting the Taliban gain a bit of credibility and accept their former enemies into the governing structures of the new country they are creating... Putin has already said if the new government ruling Afghanistan is not an inclusive one that the Taliban will not come off Russias terrorist lists and there will be no good relations.

Tribes in each area need to run their own local affairs and not be controlled by other tribes is a given clearly.

Iran , I doubt will share the same policy as China or Russia or USA . Turn a blind eye and see ethnic cleansing . Neither will it , I think give overt help

The west does not give a shit about ethnic cleansing.... that is their excuse for intervention... but only in places they want to intervene... ethnic cleansing therefore is found in places where it hasn't happened like Kosovo or Syria perhaps, but ignored in places where it actually is but they don't want to send troops like Palestine or Afghanistan now...

And oppose those rejectionists and extremists , standing against peace and progress .

Arming the NRF and continuing this conflict will not create peace or stability and will create more extremists than it kills.

Getting the Taliban to create a government where the locals are responsible for their own affairs or managing themselves with some sort of centralised structure to manage it all is the best they can hope for... but funding internal enemies will just continue what has been for the last 20 years and wont change in the next 20 years.

Iran would benefit from a stable Afghanistan... well Russia and China think the same... it was the US who thought they could snap their fingers and turn it into a carbon copy of the west in a few years... and they clearly failed.

Continual war has been tried too and was not very successful either.

Women will absolutely have no rights under a Taliban government. Their existence is being erased.

That shows you the difference between rights in the west and rights in the rest of the world.

In the rest of the world being able eat and somewhere to live are the rights they want... in the west it is being able to say what you like and getting to vote twice a decade is what they think is their right...

Saifullah Hassanzai, former head of the Parwan tribal affairs, who is on the front lines of the Second Resistance Front in #Panjshir, by Sending these images , saying that Panjshir will not surrender and would continue to resist #Taliban attacks.

Great, so just for a change the future of Afghanistan is going to be more war... just exactly what they need. Rolling Eyes

Former president Hamid Karzai in a statement asked the Taliban and the "National Resistant Front" in #Panjshir to stop the fighting and resolve their issues through dialogues.

Doesn't the Taliban have him under house arrest in Kabul?

Very funny... this guy suggests peace and dialogue and the response is that he must be forced to say that by the Taliban... because obviously mindless killing is always the answer.... wonder if this person has shares in US MIC companies...

If Tajikistan is supporting Panjshir, and this says it is, then even Russia may end up supporting them. I have thought that governments don't put all their eggs into one basket.

Like Turkey is supporting ISIS and the US is supporting the Kurds in Syria... despite HATO agreements there is no requirement for Russia to support anyone they don't want to support.

The chief of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis, Alexander Mikhailov, believes that the militias in Panjshir should stand firm in order to "either remain an actor on behalf of the West in this region, or to enter into talks and, if possible, join a coalition government, which would pave the way for peace and prevent another spiral of civil war in Afghanistan."

Of course... funding an opposition to them and fighting them will always result in the Taliban surrendering and doing everything you tell them to do... the solution is always more war. Rolling Eyes

The Taliban will no doubt be discriminatory towards others

    Like everyone in power everywhere...

    G20 to meet over Afghanistan

I am sure the G7 have already decided....

Iran's direct route to China through Afghanistan , without interference by Pakistan or Turkey is threatened by this Taliban takeover and seeming alliance of NRF with some western elements . The West holds all the cards , control silk Road in Pakistan and proposed Road in Afghanistan . China trade route then only safely pass through Russia to Europe and not through the ME .

In the event of war with USA and hence Europe , China then cut off from ME and vice versa . Pakistan then possibly siding with the West . Therefore Iran and China and ME most to loose by this takeover . For Iran strategic survival , in event of war with USA and hence Europe , only route for supply and trade will be through Russia . Iran and China should align with northern Afghan tribes and Tajik to form a corridor for passage of northern BR route , through this territory . Backing northern alliance who are calling for formation of a Republic . Get them away from western influence and backing .

I think there is a bigger chance that India could possibly side with the West than Pakistan actually. China has huge ties with Pakistan - both economic and military wise. Also the Northern Alliance is fast becoming irrelevant. China has already indicated it's willingness to work with the Taliban. Why would China risk everything by siding with the NA and get involved in yet another endless war? The Chinese are not stupid. Do you see them engaging in any wars? No - they rather invest in rebuilding a country's infrastructure for the benefit of both. Something the US should consider when they start dishing out their fake democracy.

I don't share this optimism about Pakistan remaining a firm ally of China . Or indeed of any nation remaining a firm ally of any other nation , in the long run . The nature of politics is very fluid . Today's friends can easily turn to tomorrow's foes . So for survival of each nation , and balance of power and peace , no country should be left isolated or gain a monopoly . Multiple routes for trade for all , will help this greatly .  If someone told me that buying a pair of shoes from their shop , meant that they became so wealthy that they will burn out any competition in my neighbourhood , then I would easily be left shoeless or very poor in the future . China has to formulate plan for complex world . Protect all communities , not just those seeming to serve short term interests . Same with Iran . But Iranian leadership is distracted by problems in western region and also indecisive . China thinks more strategically  , supplying defensive measures is also preferred by the Russians in Syria . You can not make an omllette , without cracking an egg . Any contract with others , such as Taliban , should be conditional . Preservation of communities and minorities is the key .

I had to respond to this childish BS you are saying, Women have actual rights in the US in a Taliban controlled Afghan they will not. I believe you mentioned you are female, do me a favor so you can see how full of shit your remark is. Go to Afghan right now, and see how the rights you have in New Zeland do not exist for you in Afghan in any way shape, or forum. Go experience for yourself what its like to live has a female under Taliban rule, once you do then you'll be singing a different tone and realize how stupid you sound.

It's so sad really, its because you have rights you can sit at your PC and bad mouth all you want, in Afghan you would not ever be permitted to do this hell you'd be married against your will and so much more.

You can turn everything into a "weh US evil" all you want but your just ignoring the facts so you can do your usual stick.

Yes Pakistan is not the most stable country in the world but both China and Pakistan has a vested interest in each other. They share a common "enemy" - India. I just think stability in the region is what most - if not all the Afghani neighbours want, and with the US gone I think there is a good chance of succeeding. Minorities in Afghanistan will have to engage in dialogue with the Taliban. The Taliban seems more than willing to do so atm - so now is a good time to start talking.

The US has a long history of "collateral damage" - so pleeaaase don't come with this BS. You refuse to admit that your super smart bombs killed thousand of civilians in Afghanistan - you just rename it to sound more exceptable to the TV audience back home. Don't preach about Human Rights!

In the event of war with USA and hence Europe , China then cut off from ME and vice versa . Pakistan then possibly siding with the West . Therefore Iran and China and ME most to loose by this takeover .

Iran and China and teh ME hardly had anything to lose... an Afghanistan with the US in charge is Opium central and a nogo for trade to Iran.

For Iran strategic survival , in event of war with USA and hence Europe , only route for supply and trade will be through Russia

But as we have already established, Russia is a highway from Asia to the EU and back so Iran being connected to Russia means access to both the EU and Asia... even if it has to be on the quiet.

Iran and China should align with northern Afghan tribes and Tajik to form a corridor for passage of northern BR route , through this territory . Backing northern alliance who are calling for formation of a Republic . Get them away from western influence and backing .

Except this group has little chance of projecting power beyond the valley they currently occupy and even less chance of becoming the dominant side in this conflict.

The Taliban is not going to run out of patience and go home... they are home... and walling off one area of their country is a pretty easy thing to do... and while the Taliban are rebuilding the rest of Afghanistan all this resistance group can do is mount pin prick attacks... which is going to make them look more and more like the terrorists...

The resistance might be safe in their hidey hole but while they stay in there life will go on and either strangled off or simply isolated and forgotten.

Meanwhile the Taliban will be winning brownie points fighting ISIS which will likely get them the support of at least the EU and Russia as well... can't imagine the US... well yes I can, but they probably wont anyway.

I don't share this optimism about Pakistan remaining a firm ally of China .

Don't think that cricket player is a huge fan of the US or vice versa... I think he is too much of an independent thinker for a start.

I had to respond to this childish BS you are saying, Women have actual rights in the US in a Taliban controlled Afghan they will not.

They had rights and education and jobs when the Soviets were there but you couldn't give a **** then and happily spent billions destroying that.

I believe you mentioned you are female, do me a favor so you can see how full of shit your remark is. Go to Afghan right now, and see how the rights you have in New Zeland do not exist for you in Afghan in any way shape, or forum.

Arab Springs and Wars in the Middle East have little to do with New Zealand and everything to do with America and her stooges fanning flames and wars.

Not my job to fight for womens rights... anywhere.

Here in New Zealand we have Kate Shepherd... famous fighter for the vote for women... but not all women mind you because back then voting was only for land owners...

Go experience for yourself what its like to live has a female under Taliban rule, once you do then you'll be singing a different tone and realize how stupid you sound.

You preachy SOB... your country has spent enough money to give every Afghan a bloody house and car each in the last 20 years... if they think they should have rights then why are you abandoning them like this you cowards.

You Americans and EU tards are the ones that promised change... not me.

It's so sad really, its because you have rights you can sit at your PC and bad mouth all you want, in Afghan you would not ever be permitted to do this hell you'd be married against your will and so much more.

WTF are you talking about... I am male you idiot.

You can turn everything into a "weh US evil" all you want but your just ignoring the facts so you can do your usual stick.

You care about the Afghan women now... after all these years... did you care about them when you spent billions over the last four decades blowing things up and arming the very same nutters you are worried about now?  The Taliban didn't arrive from space... they are the cuddly old Muj from the 1980s that you funded and made movies about... Rambo III ring a bell?  so how many are America shipping home to the land of freedoms... bugger all I would say, but now it is my problem?

The Taliban are in control because they currently control more territory than the US and HATO allies and even the Soviets ever occupied of Afghanistan at any one time... stop being such a pussy and grow up.

Girls are going back to being in the shadows and not allowed out of the house... something the west tolerated all these centuries and in plenty of other countries in the region too.

Russia has also killed innocent people with their bombs, your response was BS. Both sides do it buddy, if you wanna blame us for that sure by all means but we aren't the only side who does this.

Yeah, but when Russia left Afghanistan they didn't demand the west go in and finish all the good work they started... and you certainly didn't... as soon as the Soviets were officially gone the west lost all those maps and couldn't find them until a couple of planes flew into some buildings.

I have deleted a post for graphic images. Please read the rules. I hope they are pretty clear.

Certainly the Russians did bomb the wrong targets occasionally, but they didn't go door to door collecting up suspects and torture them for days or months or years without charge and then export them to Guantanimo bay prison or a prison closer to home.
Russia didn't collect biometric data on every citizen and then leave it all behind for an enemy to use it against the entire population...

Betrayed by Biden, and the West, is strong statement...

It'll be 3 years before another US election, where the Republicans might come back into power... If they are not looking to the US, Biden Administration, the West, who, besides Tajikistan are they hoping for help from?

'Betrayed by Biden... but I fight on in the valley that's my nation's last hope': Afghanistan's vice-president Amrullah Saleh gives a brave despatch while under siege from the Taliban in his snow-capped mountain stronghold
Amrullah Saleh, 48, is the former vice president of Afghanistan, who escaped Kabul as the Taliban advanced to join Ahmad Massoud and the National Resistance Front in the Panjshir Valley.

The remote, 70 mile long valley, bordered by high mountains, is a geographical stronghold and the last province in Afghanistan to hold out against the Taliban. After peace negotiations failed, battle has now been joined with each side claiming territorial gains and heavy casualties in the past 48 hours.

In a courageous and moving dispatch from the frontline, Saleh - whose leader, President Ashraf Ghani, fled Kabul for the UAE - reveals his anger at Afghanistan's betrayal by America but urges the West not to abandon his beloved nation.

Yesterday I attended the burial ceremony of two of the best commanders I ever knew who were killed last night.

The fighting here is heavy now, with casualties on both sides. The Taliban are using American munitions against us and Blackhawk helicopters are being flown in to reinforce their attacks.
I did not speak at the funeral, but others did. And when they asked the hundreds of mourners drawn from the communities of the Panjshir Valley - the last Afghan province resisting the Taliban - if they were prepared to continue fighting, a roar of support erupted.

The people are resolute. They - we - are united in defending our dignity, our land, our history, and our pride against the Taliban whose fighters have been amassing here in recent days.

For the Taliban have not won any hearts and minds. They have simply exploited the flawed policy of a fatigued American president — not necessarily the United States itself — and they are being micromanaged by Pakistan's notorious intelligence agency, the ISI.

The Taliban's spokesperson receives directions, literally every hour, from the Pakistani embassy.

It is the Pakistanis who are in charge as effectively a colonial power. But this is not going to last because they and their clients will not be able to erect a functioning economy or create a civil service.

They may have territorial control, but as our history has shown, control of land does not necessarily mean control over the people or stability. And I do not see Taliban having any idea about governance.

The betrayal of Afghanistan by the West is colossal.

In a chaotic effort, the U.S. managed to evacuate more than 124,000 civilians from Afghanistan, including 6,000 Americans, by Aug. 30. However, Nasria is one of the 100 to 200 Americans who remain trapped there. She asked that we use only her first name for her safety. She spoke exclusively with VOA Pentagon correspondent Carla Babb, describing her ordeal.

The Latest: Pakistan’s powerful intel chief arrives in Kabul
KABUL, Afghanistan — Pakistan’s powerful intelligence chief has made a surprise visit to the Afghan capital of Kabul. That’s according to two Pakistan officials who asked not to be named because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

It wasn’t immediately clear what Gen. Faiez Hameed had to say Saturday to the Taliban leadership but the Pakistani intelligence service has perhaps the greatest outside influence over the Taliban.

The Taliban leadership had its headquarters in Pakistan and were often said to be in direct contact with the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence agency.

The future looks bleak for girls in Afghanistan — even those living as boys
    Analysis by Lisa Selin Davis

Updated 3:03 AM ET, Sat September 4, 2021

    The Underground Girls of Kabul
IN SEARCH OF A HIDDEN RESISTANCE IN AFGHANISTAN
    By JENNY NORDBERG
ABOUT THE UNDERGROUND GIRLS OF KABUL
An investigative journalist uncovers a hidden custom in Afghanistan that will transform your understanding of what it means to grow up as a girl.

“An astonishingly clear picture of this resourceful, if imperfect, solution to the problem of girlhood in a society where women have few rights and overwhelming restrictions.”—The Boston Globe

In Afghanistan, a culture ruled almost entirely by men, the birth of a son is cause for celebration and the arrival of a daughter is often mourned as misfortune. A bacha posh (literally translated from Dari as “dressed up like a boy”) is a third kind of child—a girl temporarily raised as a boy and presented as such to the outside world. Jenny Nordberg, the reporter who broke the story of this phenomenon for the New York Times, constructs a powerful and moving account of those secretly living on the other side of a deeply segregated society where women have almost no rights and little freedom.

The Underground Girls of Kabul is anchored by vivid characters who bring this remarkable story to life: Azita, a female parliamentarian who sees no other choice but to turn her fourth daughter Mehran into a boy; Zahra, the tomboy teenager who struggles with puberty and refuses her parents’ attempts to turn her back into a girl; Shukria, now a married mother of three after living for twenty years as a man; and Nader, who prays with Shahed, the undercover female police officer, as they both remain in male disguise as adults.

At the heart of this emotional narrative is a new perspective on the extreme sacrifices of Afghan women and girls against the violent backdrop of America’s longest war. Divided into four parts, the book follows those born as the unwanted sex in Afghanistan, but who live as the socially favored gender through childhood and puberty, only to later be forced into marriage and childbirth. The Underground Girls of Kabul charts their dramatic life cycles, while examining our own history and the parallels to subversive actions of people who live under oppression everywhere.

Residents flee as Taliban intensifies battle to take Panjshir
Hundreds of families flee heavy fighting between Taliban fighters and resistance forces for the control of the final holdout province.
Smoke could be seen billowing from the distant mountain as the Taliban engaged in a battle to take control of the last of the country’s 34 provinces.

    Afghan soldiers?
Some residents said in the days leading to the August 15 fall of Kabul, they saw former Afghan National Army soldiers from the provinces of Kunduz, Baghlan, Kapisa, Parwan and Takhar heading towards Panjshir after those provinces fell.

The residents said those soldiers were transporting military vehicles and equipment with them, but with little information coming in and out of Panjshir, it is difficult to verify those claims or to know how much of them have been used in recent days.
    Landmines
It’s not just the fighting, happening just a few kilometres from their homes, that keeps them from leaving the house. Two residents referred to claims that the Taliban makes civilians collect fallen Taliban fighters from the mountains.
“They know there are landmines there, so they make innocent people gather the bodies,” said one resident who asked not to be identified for safety reasons. However, other residents rejected that claim, which Al Jazeera could not verify independently.

For its part, the Taliban categorically rejects any intentional harm to civilians by its fighters.

"....Pakistan Air Force is currently on standby because Pakistan plans to bomb the Afghan Resistance Force in Panjshir valley if Taliban is unable to capture that area before the onset of winter in October......"

Excellent . Just what the NRF needs to grow . It looks like Talibs are thinking that either they quickly defeat NRF , or see the start of their own demise . If they can not exercise control quickly , then they loose the psychological factor . These NRF seem like patriots and are more moderate and have a workable plan of a Republic . Although in the absence of much needed backers by Iran or Tajik or China , their leaders may turn to France for support  ( forgivable under circumstances ) . But looks like a multi - ethnic Afghan Republic , can not be a heavily religious Republic , and therefore can be more progressive . Not too many Mullahs , among their ranks , spoiling the stew !  Iranians should back them as well as Tajik and others . Some SAM against those Pakistan pilots , would be nice .......
