Shame on the old man in charge risking elite soldiers lives for this foolish operation.

Paratroopers are mobile forces. Without photography showing the destruction of the unit there is no way to know what is going on. We don't know what their objectives are besides harassing the capital. And they don't need to stay in one place to do that.

Let us not forget Russia is dismantling the strongest force in Europe,

This army is 10x Saddams army and that took Americans more than 1 month

So if we weigh the operation from that POV it's not a bad performance

Americans didnt face s300 either, but s125 and s200, so Russians are doing very well, this is a good measure of the military progress and a good totem for Russia

The same way they got that CIA/MI6 asset (clearly a brit) aka CNN correspondent so close, is the same way they can make that asset go back to film a nice propaganda piece to boost Ukranian morale of the "airport liberation".

Russia should be doing all it can to affect the operations of Western "press" inside Ukraine whenever encountered, and not allow them to operate like that. These are all certified assets of foreign intelligence whose sole goal is agitprop propaganda for the folks back home.

More on Snake island. As a strategic location it didn't really matter to Ukraine and NATO. But to Russia............................................NATO spitting blood!

This is my take after today:

Whatever USA was planning to do to Russia was definitely big, they weren't planning on ever giving up and guys in Moscow knew it

Regular end-of-history diplomacy from 2000 to 2014 wasn't working, they probably tried to defuse it for several years after 2014, saw that it's futile, spent rest of the time buffering the economy and are now doing this to both neutralize the threat in the Ukraine and to make sure that whoever comes after Putin can't just roll over like Yeltsin and return to old status

This is done to cement the current path



And it's clearly way bigger than just ''Putin be crazy'' which is accepted interpretation now, this was long time in the making

Something like this had to be coordinated on every level of government, from leftover commies up to liberals in finance department  

For all of them to agree on something this drastic it could only be possible if they were all actually genuinely concerned and it definitely had to be way bigger than just who would be running the country or calling the shots about money

This had to be existential

They lost planes to sams. Almost no planes or anything to Iraqi Air Force. Yeah Their soldiers were not dying from Iraqi CAS because there was almost no CAS. And the ghost of Kiev is in your ass.

Airborne forces this deep are escorted by attack helicopters and fixed wing fighters.

The fixed-wings are tasked to defeat any airborne high-speed threats. or at least contest the local airspace.
Meaning they are going to force the enemy aircraft to engage them instead.
if they slow down to target the helicopters the escorting aircraft get easy kills on them.

Its flight lead, that is an 45 angle in front of him is dropping flares against heat-seekers.

Notice the simmilarity of the scaffolds and the containers.
And in the su-24 strike picture its almost burned out.

Note in the picture the Airborne troops/helicopters are still on approach, they are not in an nose-upward position to slow down.
So they are well outside the SU-24 strike. No infantry is going to run into an open area......ever.
Especially an open airport with practically zero cover.

What i understand, but i'm not happy about is that Russia is showing a little too much restraint against Ukrainian military, especially in the east. I wouldn't like them to lose people over politics. Ukraina has, arguably, most battle hardened forces in the east. Use the air force and hit them hard.

It's not that simple. Russia has no intent to intervene, and they legitimately wanted diplomacy to succeed. The West however is run by feckless arrogant morons who think the hot air coming out of their face-holes is some sort of cosmic truth beyond contestation, so they plugged their ears, ignored Russias (legitimate) concerns, and pushed on regardless in pursuit of a maximalist zero-sum win.

They already lost people over politics. They lost almost an entire elite VDV unit trying to gamble for a quick victory over Kiev by capturing an airport and flying a bunch of troops in. It failed. Dumb leaders make dumb decisions. This whole situation was a result of bad leadership and this war is looking like it’s not going the way it should due to bad leadership

We're not hearing much about the fighting in the East around Donbass, but i expect it will be getting hot and heavy.  It looks like Russian forces are pursuing a double envelopment on a grand scale, with DPR/LPR forces on the attack to occupy the Banderites and pin them in place, while Russia hammers the enemy with arty, MLRS and CAS.

DPR forces have apparently broken thru Ukrorat lines and are liberating areas in the rear zone, a sure sign that Banderite resistance is waning (or even collapsing).  

I think that when the smoke clears, it will be readily apparent that Russia hasn't been at all gentle in dealing with Ukronazi formations
