Since it's more or less clear that Russia will come out victorious in this conflict (with varying degrees of competence, depending on who you are, but still victory), why is the west bothering to sink any money into this war? Hell, why did they bother delivering the Javelins and NLAWs?

I am surprised Russia has not been able to establish total air superiority over much of the country.

Almost all of Europe has now NOTAM'd Russian aircraft which means that Russia is returning the compliment.

The commercial effect on Western airlines is dire on their very profitable routes to the Far East. Leaving the door open for the airlines based at those remote destinations to corner the market with shorter flight times, still using Russian airspace and lower costs. Big job loses inevitably on the way.

Almost certainly as part of the plan to 'cleanse' Donbas they would have been very useful as a trench warfare weapon, maybe with 1000s of them a game changer. But before they could attack Russia beat them to it.

Probably one of the main reasons for the Russian decision to attack when it did.

You do realise how big Ukraine is and how low and from what crapping landing grounds a Il-76 can fly?

That's good actually. Let the ukrainian army move conventional forces around which are slow.

If they destroy everything they will all be involved in cuerilla and can move much faster.

This entire operation seems very odd to me. In the way it's being carried out, that is. The main thing is the absence of the airforce. Are the Russians worried that Ukraine has some air defence packed away, guerilla style?

I understand, and even appreciate, that the Russians are clearing most of the towns with light armour, with an emphasis on minimising civilian casualties, but that approach isn't in any way mutually exclusive with bombing targets from 5000 metres.

Apparently in Izium Pocket theres such a large number of forces, drones are not best for task
