Don't they get missile strikes anyways? Thats like saying it will rain.
There is a difference between fine drizzle and a monsoon...
Little terror attacks like this also shift the goal posts as to where it will be allowed to rain and for how long in Nazi occupied Ukraine.
If they keep it up only Noah will survive...
That´s why a 57mm autocannon was developed.
Actually for use against trenches I would say the 57mm grenade launcher model would be vastly more potent.
The picture you posted is the 2S38 air defence version... with the high velocity 57mm gun based on the S-60 gun.

The original Ukrainian guns are now in display together with other war trophies in the Landing Ship IVAN GREN which is moored in St.petersburg.
Here is the video of the war trophy exhibition in the hull of the IVAN GREN:

Is that based on a Kurganet?GarryB wrote:Actually for use against trenches I would say the 57mm grenade launcher model would be vastly more potent

A pretty weird move to be honest.
Those were using ZTM-1 autocannon with 30x165mm ammunition - standard Soviet type of.
Actually everything other than Baryer was of Soviet heritage.
And Baryer was both easy to remove and replace.
Those would be more lethal without doing anything.

Interesting reason for developing this truck, but BMP 3 can easily serve the same purpose
Actually I think that truck is the six wheeled version of the Typhoon light armoured vehicle (comes in 6x6 and 4x4 versions).
Is that based on a Kurganet?
The 57mm grenade launcher turret is standard and can be fitted to any vehicle... it is unmanned.
There is also a 30mm cannon armed (2A42 BMP-2 gun) version with different optics and the four Kornet launch tubes but does not seem to have Bulat missiles.
There is also the APC model with the Kord turret.

Ukro war vets cried in the Ukro TV, that propaganda unleashed on the Ukro population worked so much that people don't believe them.
They are being told about inferior Russkie fighting with showels and human waves for so long, that nobody considers serious stories about Russian loitering ammo, Orlans, technical advantage, murderous weapon systems etc. Calling them liars and bluffing

Since they mentioned trench warfare, I would think a few S-70s armed with Sensor Fuzed Munition is the perfect weapon for trench warfare.
Light armoured vehicles, BMPs, MBTs can easily be targeted with ATGMs and artillery.

Well, the S-60 is an AA gun and still it´s shooting at trenches. The picture you posted is the 2S38 air defence version.
In the first videos of the 2S38 it was shooting at ground targets all the time.
According to the main role of the weapon system it will be close to the frontline so it will be doing both,
shooting at air targets (mostly drones) and ground targets (including trenches).
Looks more like a version of the Patrul trucks. Or the Akhmat.I think that truck is the six wheeled version of the Typhoon light armoured vehicle
Use both.Actually for use against trenches I would say the 57mm grenade launcher model would be vastly more potent.
Which means the Ukro population has reached the level of western politicians, repeaters and military "experts".That nobody considers serious stories about Russian loitering ammo, Orlans, technical advantage, murderous weapon systems

The Turks report that the Patriot air defense system, stationed at the Kiev Zhuliany airport and transferred by Germany, was destroyed by Russia using the Dagger hypersonic cruise missile.
The passage of the Condor satellite was supplemented by the work of electronic and undercover intelligence from the field, and the target was destroyed very quickly.
The SBU and GUR of Ukraine are intensively looking for the source of a possible leak.
To date, three Patriot batteries have been destroyed in Ukraine and there are two more.

Thanks.

I am thinking the sophisticated optics and ballistics computers on the new vehicles will mean the 57mm grenade launchers will be rather accurate and the size and weigh of the HE rounds is enormous and should be rather more powerful than any 30mm shell.
Being direct fire but low velocity they should have a curved enough trajectory to deal with trenches... especially if you have a drone watching for impacts so you can see your own impacts and adjust fire accordingly.
It should be able to carry hundreds of rounds with quite large HE capacity.
Well, the S-60 is an AA gun and still it´s shooting at trenches.
The higher velocity round will be flatter shooting and I suspect a lighter less powerful HE projectile, but moving rather faster and in a burst of a few rounds would be devastating.
Traditionally the Soviets and Russians use their AA guns as dual purpose weapons against ground and air targets, so it would make sense to use those too, but I would prefer it to be looking for air targets and drones while the guns on the average BMP will be delivering HE rounds accurately.
Which means the Ukro population has reached the level of western politicians, repeaters and military "experts".
They can't be trusted in negotiations so this fight is going to continue until the people want it to stop and will do anything the make it stop.
We have a while to go yet.
To date, three Patriot batteries have been destroyed in Ukraine and there are two more.
How ironic... Kiev is running out of patriots... in terms of air defence systems and people.

I'm curious as to why old Soviet guns were put on them. Were they given over to DPR forces to use? or just needed something put on to add weight and stability to them? Had just assumed Russia would scrap them as they seem to have little real worth.

All DPR forces are now incorporated into the Russian military (January 1st) and all volunteer forces under Russian military control effective July. These two gunboats are used as coastal patrol in the Azov Sea for the Russian Navy.

57mm is so pre-SMO. We need bigger rounds! Like 76mm. Or maybe the Russians can turn the old KS-19 100mm AA gun into57mm grenade launchers
an auto cannon.

Israel has mortars on some infantry vehicles, even on Merkava 4 IIRC.
