Actually if Ukraine had not had such leadership, Russia would not have had any chance to even get Donetsk and Lugansk, as if Ukraine truly implemented the Minsk 2 agreement  Russia would have had to allow them to return to Ukrainian control (albeit with some autonomy). Not having a war (or ending it too soon) would have left Russia with another situation similar to 2005 Ukraine or modern Armenia/Kazakhstan.

This situation instead will allow (unfortunately with a lot of suffering and deaths) to correct some bad decisions and wrongdoings of the past.

I think they believe their own bullshit propaganda and actually thought Russia would collapse... this is 11 rounds of actually rather serious sanctions including removing them from the SWIFT international payment system... most countries would have collapsed after such sanctions... even China... in fact China would have suffered more from the sanctions than anyone else because they are the wests sweat shop so western companies leaving China and cutting them off from international economics would have been brutal.

They probably thought... hey... this war we are starting is perfect... if we make Russia collapse we win, if Russia doesn't collapse we seriously weaken them and with us supplying Ukraine all the weapons and ammo and money they need they can beat weak useless Russia on the battlefield with our super weapons so we win again... they just need Javelin and NLAW and Stinger and Russian air power and armour will be burning all over the place and we win... OK now we need artillery and armour and other stuff as well but we still win... OK so it is not going well on the battlefield... that is just because the sanctions are not instant and it take time for the damage to have an effect on their economy and when it does they will want Putin out because Putin is the problem in all of this...

But now they realise their advisors on Russia are idiots and were wrong from the start, but it is too late.... modern western academia is not producing new experts on Russia that know what they are talking about... advice about how to deal with Russia is no where to be found because the normal diplomacy of the west is to get leverage on the people you are talking to and use power and force to make them do as you want them to do... well Russia and now China and other countries are saying no... even Africa is saying no to Europe... which is actually fantastic for them as well. (Africa, not Europe... though in the long run Europe had no future the way it was behaving anyway so it is ultimately good for them even if they don't see it now).

It is pretty clear with those headlines that the west is shifting to the point where they can say Zelensky is the problem and he will be the one they martyr to try to return to what they had before...

What they don't realise, but Russia has realised now, is that the relationship with the west for Russia was very much like the wests relationship with Africa and Asia and Central and South America and the Pacific Islands... it was a colonial relationship of master and slave, and Russia is not going to want to go back to that ever.

The US killed the golden goose and the Europeans helped them, and now both will suffer for their stupidity and greed... and this is fantastic for Russia and the rest of the world.

Putin might have wished for this decades ago but there is no way he could have turned Russians against the west the way the west has by creating a war and spending their money and ammo and weapons resources and wealth on killing Russians, and ignoring the deaths of Ukrainian civilians leading up to this conflict... it is pretty clear the west considers Ukrainians to be Russians and are totally expendable in their mission to destroy Russia and to get control of their resources...

The real punchline will be that the rich and powerful who thought poking the Bear and poking the Dragon were good ideas will likely be the first to run away from the US and EU when things get tough and infrastructure collapses and the US dollar is not worth anything any more and they will be running to places like Australia and New Zealand or perhaps Africa or Asia or Central or South America with their wealth... converted into the local currencies of course... but what will that mean for the countries they migrate to... will they start funding political parties and taking control and ruining other countries with their BS?

Perhaps a new rule that anyone who has more than 10 million dollars should be super taxed... 85c on the dollar... because they really don't need more money and the locals could do with more money for their health and education systems...

At the very least such laws would stop these monsters coming to your town...

I would judge the distance to be around 100m.

Ukrs don't have trained tankers anymore, itis obviously clear. The training they get in Poland gives them only very, very principals.

At the same time, a MiG-31BM fighter of the Black Sea Fleet took off from the Belbek airfield, whose onboard radar detected two tactical aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force and hit them with guided missiles.

The exact type of aircraft is unknown, but with a high degree of probability it is either a MiG-29 or Su-27. The effectiveness of both the MiG-31 and S-400 in conjunction with the A-50 is proving increasingly effective.
