I would say the MIG-31 has stood the tests of time much better then its contemporaries. The concept was never fully tested and all it needed was the Kinzhal missille and improvments to the R-37 to become a true silver bullet. with its mega 82K feet service ceiling the F-22 is no longer stealthy trundling along at 60K feet.

During the summer defensive campaign, Russia inflicted serious damage on the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was stated in an interview with the HKCM YouTube channel by the former head of the NATO military committee, General Harald Kujat.

“In reality, the situation can be described as follows: the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are exorbitant, especially during the offensive,” Kuyat noted.

At the same time, according to him, the Russian Armed Forces, on the contrary, used defensive tactics and switched to strategic defense. Kuyat said that the goal of the Russian army is not to retain territories at any cost, but to destroy the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In this regard, he believes that the Russian Armed Forces adhere to the rule of the Prussian military leader Carl von Clausewitz, which states: disarm the enemy - and then everything else will happen almost by itself. The former commander of NATO troops expressed the opinion that this is exactly what the Russian Armed Forces have achieved, and now we are talking about active defense.

During the Ukrainian counteroffensive, Russia managed to accumulate reserves to organize its own offensive. Kuyat pointed out that some attempts are already being successfully made on the front sector near Liman and Kupyansk. According to his assumptions, at some point the Russian Armed Forces will launch a powerful offensive, since huge forces are concentrated in the rear.

The ex-commander of NATO troops expressed the opinion that the Russian army will try to gain a foothold in its occupied positions and reach the former administrative borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics. However, he noted that two other regions are also important - Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. In addition, Kuyat believes that Russian forces will try to take Odessa, and then attempt to reach Transnistria. He stressed that this is a “minimum option.”

Well technically they are not wrong. Russians and the Russian language is the majority in the Ukraine. Over 70% speak Russian, the minority speaks actual Ukrainian and by ethnicity the vast majority over 80% are Russian.

Russian Armed Forces adhere to the rule of the Prussian military leader Carl von Clausewitz,
Well, Clausewitz learned that lesson as he was an observer in the General Staff of the Russian Army during the war against Napoleon.

Well technically they are not wrong. Russians and the Russian language is the majority in the Ukraine. Over 70% speak Russian, the minority speaks actual Ukrainian and by ethnicity the vast majority over 80% are Russian.

Again it is going very similar to the west, where some minorities are discriminating against the majority (i.e. UK with all the Pakistani, Arab, Indian etc minorities which are overrepresented in leading role and in media and always claiming more rights against the indigenous population).

Anyway in Ukraine there are three main groups (if we exclude real minorities like Hungarians, Tatars, Romanians, etc)
north-Western Ukrainians who are mainly pro western and antirussian (they are at the moment closer to Poland  but also very much antipolish, and their antipolish sentiment is only temporarily suppressed in view of a common enemy which are Russia and the pro russian Ukrainians).

Central Ukrainian (former malorossian) a mix of Russian and (Ukrainian) Malorossian speakers, and that until 2014 were normally either perfectly bilingual (like in Poltava) or spoke mostly Russian in the cities and Ukrainian (or Surzhik (a mix of Ukrainian and Russian) in the countryside.

Finally east and south ukrainians, that are mainly "ukrainazed" Russian, or Russian that have been brainwashed into thinking that they are not russian (but that is also valid for most of central Ukrainians).
There (like Odessa and Kharkov) the sentiment was (until 2014) probably a mix of "pro-russia and pro-west. Probably they were ok with the status quo pre maidan and we're not really interested in having their regions become again part of Russia.

This was of course mainly thanks to the propaganda and brainwashing that happened since the 1980s.  in 1991 most of the population (except the people in the northwest) did not want to separate from Moscow, but that was imposed by the party leaders.

Anyway the situation has changed a bit since 2014, as the newer generation is even more brainwashed and never lived in a common state with people from Moscow, Rostov, San Petersburg, etc.

I knew some Ukrainians (aged between 25 and 35) living in the west that a few years ago stopped to want to communicate in Russian. In same cases it was even absurd, because their parents in Ukraine (like Dnepropetrovsk or other cities in the south or east) could barely understand Ukrainian.

Anyway we will see what are the consequences of the war on the sentiment from the population. I am not sure that most Ukrainian will continue for long to think that it was all caused by a bad and evil Russia against "innocent and democratic Ukraine".

I believe that by the end of the war most of them will have seen and understood that there were huge responsibility from their governments and also from the passive acceptance of everything by the population. Many of them are becoming also disillusioned by the west.

This of course is not enough to have them want to accept Russia, but as the propaganda basically turned russian people in antirussian, an opposite propaganda could achieve the opposite, giving enough time.

Of course this is not valid for everyone, but the west will probably be glad to welcome the antirussians anyway, as they have done with the Chechen terrorists who ran away from Putin and Kadirov.

    P.S.

    Concerning the spoken languages.

Now the newer generation speak much more often Ukrainian (in kharkov in 2016 the people in the 20-25 years old age range that I met were perfectly bilingual but spoke Russian between themselves (even the one that had proazov terrorist images in their social media).
(By the way also the people from Lvov that I met in Kiev (from that age range) spoke Russian fluently (but I believe did not use it when among themselves).

Concerning the older generation, most of the people included into the Ukrainian speakers. ,(except those in the north west) were instead speakers of Surzhik.
Furthermore Surzhik is not well defined, as it could go from being 90% Ukrainian and 10% russian in the north west and instead 10% Ukrainian and 90% Russian in the east.
The funny thing was that some of those Surzhik speakers actually believed that they were speaking ukrainan

The reason why anti Russian sentiment exists in Ukraine, is because racism and hatred are the state ideology

This is something enforced at a state level, and then all the effects through social media, officials, TV, and all other means of influence repeat the same thing without any filter or blockage of this message

That's why the Nazis became so mainstream even though people said afterwards that they themselves were not nazis, because of the proliferation of their ideas, and the mainstream acceptance of it - although it was not allowed at first, it was allowed to fester and then the average person was a swastika waiving fanatic, even if it was just for show

Once Ukraine is brought under military control, and informational/political control, the flow of information should be monitored and filtered, to include healthy ideas and sentiments, and to exclude negative and racist overtones

Same as with Chechnya, the extremists had to be hunted and killed, or exiled before their society was brought in line with a healthy system

Once those voices were removed, and a strong leader with 0 tolerance and loyalty was out into place

    The problem disappeared

Now at the individual level there will always be racists, and hateful people, but these people are entitled to their beliefs - it just won't be a cancer which is poisoning the rest of the society

Also Ukraine like Chechnya will have to experience the consequences of their path, which mean examining the deaths of people, and the ruination of their country, which will be decades before it is rebuilt into a new country

    Same with Chechnya

In all it is a process, but Ukraine will be a denazified state with pro russian elements, and part of the Russian world in the end

With world’s gaze on Gaza, Ukraine’s leadership is quietly split
Yet an interview with Ukraine’s commander-in-chief last week came through loud and clear, sparking both an internal crisis in Kiev and an international debate on the future of the conflict. General Valery Zaluzhny is the man leading the Ukrainian war against Russia’s invasion. For him to voice publicly that the fighting had reached a stalemate was astonishing, even shocking.

People will do what they're told

    Conformity is normal human behavior

If you tell the chechens and dagestanis to do jihad, and storm an airport, they will

If you tell Ukrainians, they are the master race and they built sumeria, they will believe it with mova and all even if they die by the hundreds of thousands

If you told a Russian he is a slave of the Americans, well he just might believe that too, and let a pawn like Gorbachev or Yeltsin, dissolve the Union

We tend to believe each other when we are in our societies, some of us are more conformist than others, see the Japanese and Koreans

Some of us are a bit more individualist, see the Europeans and Americans (although they are a lot more conforming then they like to admit)

In the end, every people has this tendency, it just needs to be managed - call it cynical, but it is what it is

Every group must be managed with information to cull they're more debase instinct

That's what we did with Chechnya, and we need to implement it in Ukraine

This is what Z is about, modern russification

The Americans do it themselves with democracy

We are just beginning to implement these ideas in practice in the south of Ukraine

    And why not?

What good is there for a world without Russia?

Summary of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the progress of a special military operation (for the period from November 4 to November 10, 2023)

In the period from November 4 to November 10, 2023, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out 11 group strikes with precision weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles on military airfield infrastructure, arsenals, places of storage of artillery ammunition, weapons and military equipment, as well as bases of fuel and lubricants of the enemy.

In addition, the locations of units of Ukrainian servicemen, nationalists and foreign mercenaries were defeated.

    All assigned objects are hit.

In the Kupyansk direction, units of the Western Group of Troops improved the situation along the front edge in some areas during the week and repelled 18 enemy attacks.

Air strikes and artillery fire defeated the manpower and equipment of the 25th Airborne, 68th Jaeger, 14th, 54th and 67th mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of the settlements of Sinkovka, Ivanovka, Zagoruikovka of the Kharkiv region, Sverdlovsk and Stelmakhovka of the Luhansk People's Republic.

Battle for Avdeevka: Unsuccessful Counterattacks and Heavy Losses for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Russian units, after a successful advance, have now shifted to a defensive and consolidation strategy in the occupied areas around the fortified Avdeevka region. The AFU, in an attempt to counterattack, brought in reinforcements from other directions.
Ukrainian forces operating from Novokalynove aimed to break through to Krasnohorivka, but were unsuccessful.

Today, Russian units managed to cross the railway and swiftly break through to the village of Petrovskoye (Stepovoe).

UNITED NATIONS, November 10. /TASS/. More than 5 million people have arrived from Ukraine and the Donbass republics in Russia since the start of the special military operation, Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said at an informal Arria formula meeting of the UN Security Council.

"Since the start of the special military operation, Russian regions have accommodated more than 5 million people from Ukraine and the Donbass republics who voluntarily left for our country. Among them there are 730,000 children. An overwhelming majority of these children arrived together with their parents or other relatives. Only 2,000 minors are from DPR and LPR orphanages who have arrived together with the childcare centers’ directors and teachers," Nebenzya said.

It's such a tragedy for NATzO that their puppets couldn't ethnically cleanse ethnic Russians from the Donbass and are going to lose
territory that should never have been part of the absurd Soviet concoction known as Ukraine. Stoltentwat is openly stating that
NATzO's raison d'etre is to exterminate Russians.

There was earlier footage of what seems to be a Su-17 flying in Ukrainian airspace. The origins have the finger pointed at Poland. However Ukraine did have one in service for testing purposes but this would be the first time it's been mentioned during the conflict.

The US inserts "research facilities" in every former USSR republic it can.   There are some in Kazakhstan as well, which shows that Kazakhstan is an

Lots of posts removed from this thread and moved to here

Please feel free to continue discussions there and keep this thread for topics directly regarding the war in the Ukraine.

Jesus, what a new level of craziness.

They have hundreds of bio weapons labs in countries all around the world and we saw during the Covid Pandemic they were amongst the least prepared... are they really that incompetent... or was it the case they were working on offensive uses of bio weapons instead of working out how to defend against them like they claim?

They have labs in foreign countries for two reasons... to access genetic material from different places and gene pools... and also they can perform experiments that they are not allowed to perform in the US because it is too dangerous.

The lab in China they claim Covid originated from was US funded... but they stopped blaming China... why would that be... unless the evidence showed it was their work that created the virus and it is their fault the virus spread because clearly Chinese requirements for such labs are not as strict as US requirements...

A bit like two poisonings in the UK of a deadly chemical all within a few miles of Porton Down research factility... I am surprised they didn't blame Putin for Covid too.

If only the west had independent media and we might find out the truth... but that wont happen, will it....
