    - Yantar  shipyard is building 2 project 11356 frigates for the Indian navy. These are the ex- Admirals Butakov and Istomin. It is now confirmed that they will have Ukrainian engines.

    - The project 20380 corvette Retivy that was launched earlier this March is destined to the Black Sea fleet.

    - A project 22160 class ship is very active in the East Mediterranean,  it was seen recently in the port of Tartous,  Syria. Probably the D. Rogachov.

    - The veteran Smetlivy will no longer sail. She is now being fitted as a museum ship.

    - The 7500 tons project 23700 Rescue vessel Voevoda will begin sea trials this fall.

    - The Black Sea Fleet will receive the 3500 T project 03182 tanker Vice Admiral Pomarov at the end of this year or early next year.

So it looks like Priboy class helicopter carrier and Admiral Gorshkov frigate will be delayed to next year at least due to COVID. Also the fate of the first Gremyashchiy class corvette is in question after unsatisfactory sea trial.

Very good news indeed!  Very Happy  The Kashins were iconic ships of their day, and we've been fortunate indeed that one unit has survived in service this long and remains in good condition.

Hopefully we'll see the same for one of the surviving 1135s, either Ladny or Pytlivy.

To be fair, when your building ships social distancing isn't much of an option. You are going to be right next to guys and you won't be washing your hands constantly.

And the main problem is Russia got caught up in the hoopla while other parts of the world like China, Qatar, Turkey don't care about it and even wages war.

The Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet can now deploy its submarines to the Mediterranean. This is despite an international treaty which many thought would prevent it. The Montreux Convention, agreed in 1936, prohibits submarines from passing through the Bosporus Strait, which connects the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. There are exceptions in the treaty for special cases for Black Sea nations: delivery of new submarines to the Black Sea, and exits for repairs. Russia is now routinely using these clauses to reestablish a permanent submarine presence in the Mediterranean. This is changing the balance of power there.

The deployment of these submarines to the Mediterranean is a serious concern for NATO leadership. Speaking at the International Institute for Strategic Studies on June 25, Admiral James Foggo, Commander of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe and Africa, described the Eastern Mediterranean as “one of the most kinetic areas in the world.” He said, “the Russians are deploying quiet, modern, diesel submarines capable of launching the Kalibr cruise missile.” This refers to Kilo-class boats deploying there via the Bosporus.

They could upgrade some of the old kilos being replaced by new ones and base them permanently in Tartus. Crews can switch by planes. Then they could buy newer ones.

To be fair, when your building ships social distancing isn't much of an option. You are going to be right next to guys and you won't be washing your hands constantly.

Previously there was little reason to wash your hands constantly, but currently there is... if you want to work you follow the new rules.

And the main problem is Russia got caught up in the hoopla while other parts of the world like China, Qatar, Turkey don't care about it and even wages war.

Compared with many other countries... indeed with countries with similar rates of infection, the death rate for Russia is surprisingly low.

Boo fucking hoo.... it is the Russian Navy for goodness sake... it is not fucking ISIS.

Russia should just withdraw from the Montreux treaty and sail through anything it pleases.

Russian shipyards often ignore and flaunt rules, now I am not saying COVID will delay laying the ships down. But there is a high chance of infection in any business that has many people very close together and again they cannot wash their hands constantly in that line of work.

Russia don't care that much about treaties anyway. Russia annexed Crimea in 1783 in violation of treaty that ended Russia Turkey war. Russia rearmed Crimea in violation of treaty that ended Crimean war. Russia invaded Japan in 1945 in violation of Russia Japan non aggression treaty. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 in violation of Budapest treaty.

Agree, but this is new territory for everyone... no one has gone through this sort of thing recently and there is no manual or guidebook on how to exit it either.

With a good healthcare system and checks for flu and illness they need to carry on...

The ruling at the Hague international court said that "declarations of independence can and often do violate domestic legislation. However this does not mean it is a violation of international law...

In fact the US State department stated that "the principle of territorial integrity does not exclude the establishment of new states in the territory of existing states... and Germany says similar things when advising the Hague international court during their deliberations as to whether Kosovo independence is legal under international law....

Which by inference means the people of the Crimea get to decide whether they are Russian or not....

And Russia never signed any treaty with Japan, the soviet japan treaty formally ended their conflict in Mongolia but was never meant to be a perpetual agreement... Japan still occupied lots of Soviet territory that the Soviets wanted back and already had an agreement with the Americans to join the war in the Pacific... the Americans demanded it because they were afraid that with the end of the war in Europe the allies might write off the Pacific colonies and leave America to fight Japan on their own. The Yalta agreement demanded Soviet intervention in the Pacific war within 6 months of the end of hostilities in Europe...

I thought that the 2008 ruling by the Hague ICJ on Kosovo asserted that self-determination trumps laws about borders. Are they now backpedaling since
Crimea's return to Russia does not fit their agenda?

Get your facts straight! U.S. Congress never ratified the Budapest Treaty only the US president signed it, which means the U.S. made it null-and-void which untied the hands of Uncle Sham. The Budpest Treaty would only be enforced if both the US and Russia RATIFIED the treaty, not just if the their leaders signed it.

There is no justice above states with nuclear weapons...

Who cares about treaties ? US paid neonazis to destroy the country and russia's strategical base of Sevastopol was in danger. If you have a little geopolitical knowledge you know that Russia will take it no matter what was said or signed and by who it was said or signed.

Ukraine should be happy that Russians are not the evil people west tries to make everyone believe. They took Crimea with not a single gun fire shot.. If it was US protecting its base the country would still be bombed right now...and probably for the next 5 years.
