Sheinbaum advocates recognizing the Palestinian state "in all its magnitude", 10.11.2024.

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed that Palestine should be recognized as a state, just like Israel, this after the first anniversary of the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

"We condemn the aggressions that are being experienced and, in addition, we consider that the Palestinian state should be recognized in all its magnitude, just like the State of Israel," he said at a press conference.

She also recalled that former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) set the government's position in favor of peace.

"[López Obrador also said] that the United Nations should be more proactive as an institution in the search for and construction of peace," Sheinbaum stressed.

The Mexican head of state reiterated that her Administration condemns any type of violence that arises inside and outside the Latin American country.

Previously, Sheinbaum pointed out that Mexico, in addition to fighting for peace, adheres to the policy of non-intervention, this after the tensions between Israel and Iran, which erupted at the beginning of October 2024.

Sheinbaum shows video of government apologies to see if "Spain is encouraged" to ask for forgiveness, 10.11.2024.

The Mexican president reiterated her request to King Felipe VI during her morning conference.

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, released on Friday a video that compiles public apologies from various rulers for affronts against other peoples, "to see if the King of Spain, Felipe VI, is encouraged to do the same with the Latin American nation.

"To see if tomorrow is encouraged to start this process of public apology Spain to the indigenous peoples of Mexico," Sheinbaum said in his morning conference, from the National Palace in Mexico City, referring to the controversial October 12.

In the audiovisual material, disseminated just before the press questions began, a series of reparations for different crimes are observed, such as the apology of the United States to Guatemala for deliberately infecting venereal diseases or that of France to Algeria for its responsibility for crimes perpetrated during its independence.

"These examples confirm that offering apologies for past grievances allows historical wounds to be resolved and frees both those who offer forgiveness and those who grant it," the video says.

In this way, Sheinbaum insisted on the historical demand inherited from his predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who sent a letter to the Spanish monarch to ask forgiveness from the original peoples of Mexico for the abuses committed during the conquest.

As the letter has not been answered since it was officially sent in 2019, Sheinbaum did not invite Felipe VI to her inauguration, which generated a diplomatic 'impasse' between the two countries.

Sheinbaum: "The arrival of the Spaniards represented subjugation", 10.12.2024.

October 12 is not Columbus day or Hispanic heritage day, said the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, in the context of the controversy between the Government of the Latin American country with Spain over Mexico's request to the Spanish Crown to apologize for the atrocities committed during the conquest in the sixteenth century.

"Christopher Columbus discovered America for Europeans, but on our continent and in particular in what we call Mexico today, there were already great civilizations and cultures of which we are proud", the president said.

"The arrival of the Spaniards more than five centuries ago represented the subjugation and even elimination of the original peoples," he said on his X social network account in a message accompanied by a video, which recounts various official acts in which governments from different latitudes have apologized for abuses committed in the past.

"Apologizing for the crimes committed is not shameful; on the contrary, it magnifies and brings people closer," Sheinbaum added.

The video shows cases such as the United States, which apologized for deliberately infecting hundreds of Guatemalans with venereal diseases; the Netherlands, which apologized for summary executions in Indonesia in the 1940s; France, which in 2018 admitted responsibility for crimes during the Algerian war of independence and three years later in Rwanda.

Reference is also made to the fact that former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador offered apologies to the Mayan people, the Yaqui people and the Chinese community for acts of violence and discrimination committed by Mexicans at different times.

"These examples confirm that apologizing for past wrongs allows historical wounds to be resolved and frees both the one who offers forgiveness and the one who grants it," the video presented exposes.

In March 2019, López Obrador addressed a letter to the King of Spain, Felipe VI, in which he proposed a bilateral recognition of the grievances caused to indigenous communities to begin a stage of respect and historical reconciliation amongst both nations.

She hasnt made any attempt to decry the crimes that are currently being committed by her own people now - by what right does she have to extract an apology for crimes committed to other people fucking 500 years ago?

Always the double standard with you commies...

Listen, my question is very simple and direct. In the past did Sheinbaum say anything bad about Palestinian people or denying the crimes of Tel Aviv government, that's it.

If your main intention here is to fuel your boring and worthless anticommunist rhetoric it is a waste of time here.

Petro criticizes the Spanish version of the conquest: "There was no discovery", 10.13.2024.

In 1492, "there was no discovery," said the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, on October 12, who joined other Latin American leaders who recalled the greatness of American civilizations before the arrival of Europeans.

"Human beings in America have already known each other for tens of thousands of years," Petro said in a message posted on his X social network account.

"Anyone who is unaware of this reality should go to Chibiriquete, San José del Guaviare, Colombia, where the Sistine chapel of prehistory is located. Some 20,000 years of huge and beautiful murals of a culture that was being born," the Colombian president wrote.

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, also said that it is not the day of the race nor of the Hispanidad. "The arrival of the Spaniards more than five centuries ago represented the subjugation and even elimination of the original peoples," Sheinbaum said.

"Nothing to celebrate. The conquest and colonization of America turned the initial encounter of two cultures into a sequence of plundering and underdeveloped dispossession to which a greater infamy would be added: the slave trade," wrote the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Sheinbaum announces that Mexico will remain "impartial" before the result of elections in Venezuela,10.15.2024.

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that her administration will maintain a neutral stance on the issue of the general elections in Venezuela, which were held on July 28, 2024 and, at the time, caused division worldwide.

"At one point, there was a call from the three countries [Mexico, Colombia and Brazil] for the results of the election to be transparent. From now on, we will remain impartial in this regard. Colombia has a position, Brazil also and the USA the same. Our position is the self-determination of the peoples," she said at a press conference.

On July 28, 2024, the presidential elections were held in Venezuela, the victory of which was for the current president, Nicolás Maduro. However, the United States and other nations questioned the process, alluding that the real winner had been the opponent Edmundo González Urrutia.

Maduro obtained 51.95% of the votes, while González, his closest contender, reached 43.18% of the votes, according to the National Electoral Council (CNE). The opposition Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD, right) ignored the results and released CNE minutes that would prove that González was the winner of the elections.

Faced with this, on August 1, the then president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and his counterparts from Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and from Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, held a call to agree on a common bloc where they expressed their concern about the demonstrations in the South American nation and stressed that they should submit the electoral records to verify the result of the elections.

Regarding this effort, in a previous interview with Sputnik, the academic of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences and PhD in Latin American studies of the UNAM, Monica Velasco Molina, considered that the emergence of this position formed by the three Latin American leftist powers was of great importance, because it is an impulse to try to solve the problems of the region without the intervention of the United States.

"We are appealing to the sovereignty of our countries in our own institutional way, not the one imposed or desired by any external entity," she observed.
