Could be that they are in Syria, but is it 100% certain it's not just stock footage of those russian helos (the images being from Russia)? We should get confirmation from the VKS soon if this is confirmed though.

And what if Turkey runs over Syrian border with land forces will Russia use tactical nukes or massive salvo of conventional cruise missiles would be enough?
FAEs would do the job. It would be handy if there are FAE warheads for cruise missiles. Don't know if that's the case, though.

Interesting analysis by Alexander Mercouris: http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/actually-russia-winning-syria/ri11503
Pretty basic stuff, but I feel a bit less heated after sleeping on the situation and waking up to read some of the more coolheaded comments here. I think some economic constriction is all that is really needed now. Russia has to keep playing the long game here, stay on track, eyes on the prize and all that.
I felt just as heated over Ukraine... And that situation was far worse. Russia quietly won that, we'll come out on top here as well.
Just have to bide time and strengthen relationships. US isolation isn't too far off in the long run... Even if NATO is still keeping up its flimsy façade.

Turkey Border guards having a nice meeting with ISIS caught in camera..
http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/video-shows-isis-militants-having-friendly-chat-turkish-border-officers/ri11511
How blind can turkey citizens be?
Their government is a Terrorist State.. and responsible for the genocide
in Syria and IRAQ.. can wait the lawsuit on Turkey to pay damages in both nations
for their support to ISIS..
And they cannot claim Assad rules in IRAQ..which also is attacked by their ISIS buddies.
The problem is Turkey that follows the orders of US and ISRAEL.

^^^Well, I didn't create this monster, but it now exists, sooo... Anyhow, my question regards the reaction to the SU-24 shootdown, so it is not really off-topic.

The problem with Syria is that Russia can have a Plan B, just like it happened in Iraq. They can downsize their own exposure then go back to arming which ever guy wants to fuck up with Erdogan. Iran, Kurds, hell why no even arm the FSA at some point. You think those FSA primadonna's want to share Syrian Land with Turkmens? And then have an Iraqi baathist like Alawite structure kicking things down mounting up huge assasination campaigns etc. If one thing I've learned from the MENA region, is that they will try anything to break the optimum for non-sense.
So yeah maybe some think about Russia not, winning, but Russia can make it so no one wins. Out of control Syria will be oh so cool for Turkey, especially ISIS rampage will be genius for Tourism.

My comment was more directed at the Russia-Turkey standoff. But yeah, can we lock this thread? Or at least rename it as the Mos Eisely cantina or something?

So shouldn't they be in the long running Syria War thread? These topics have nothing to do with this thread's title, shooting down the Su-24.

Well sorry,i am trying to have a conversation but most of you are fanboys.
I am tryin to say that,if Russia cuts gas,yea it will be a hard time but Russia is only a supplyer,we don't take all of our gas from that.
Plus,Russia sells its gas through blue stream to south europe, you know the capacity of this stream and you may calculate the loss.
I mean,it is not something like "Russia can do anything and has no harm."Russia is in a more fragile position, you should admit it,we have seen it last year's crysis.
Who knows, maybe this is a game between Russia and Turkey, some people tell it but i don't think it is possible.
The think Russia needed to do was to agree with Turkey and end the war in Syria. She choosed the long way.
On the other hand,Russia is earning new enemies after Georgia,Ukrain and old sscb countries.

In case no-one noticed there is even a Russia Turkey thread, let alone the Russian help for Syria one.
A choice of three more appropriate places for most of these posts.
To have these posts here destroys the continuity of information and discussion in the real topic threads.
To have random posts over multi threads is surely not in keeping with the military ethos of this site????

eh, so what. Losing a frenemy is no big loss, long term. Besides, relations are warming with certain other nations, and they are not big fans of Turks for sure. In the end, there are no permanent friends or enemies, as the quote goes.

WTF planet are you on?
"Russia needed to do was to agree with Turkey and end the war in Syria"
Turkey was a main instigator of the war against Assad. Where in the Universe was Russia going to agree with that?
Anyway this should be in the Russia Turkey thread, not here.

I suggest that, before it's too late, for the mods to get involved and move the posts created by the Turkish propaganda officers and the responses to those posts to the "Talking bollocks thread". The rest of the material can be moved to other Syria related threads, which I think should in turn be combined and renamed.

GarryB was on this morning so he must be happy for it to run on.
Its just up to us to effectively let it die!
Lets all agree not to post here unless something related to that Su-24 pops up.
