That's what you call an upgrade, F-5 to Su-35!
Indonesia's defense minister said that the country would buy Russian-made Su-35 jets following negotiations between the two countries. Indonesia's defense ministry has decided to purchase Russian Sukhoi Su-35 jets to replace its aging US-made F-5 fleet, the country's state news agency Antara reported.
Indonesia previously expressed interest in the Su-35 jet, with the country's ambassador to Russia telling RIA Novosti that the budget for purchasing the planes has already been established. Indonesian legislator Tubagus Hasanuddin previously said that Russia could provide Indonesia with a loan to buy the jets, although no further details were revealed. "We have agreed to buy a squadron of Sukhoi Su-35s from Russia to replace the F-5 Tiger jet fighters," defense minister Ryamizard Ryacudu told Antara. The contract between Indonesia and Russia will be signed later in September, according to the minister. Jakarta will buy Su-35 jets in several stages, depending on the country's financial capacity, Ryacudu said.
"We want to buy a squadron [of Sukhoi Su-35s], but the purchase will be adjusted, based on the financial capability of the government," Ryacudu added.
Indonesia and Russia previously signed a $1 billion contract in 2007 under which Indonesia purchased Russian military equipment including Sukhoi jets and Mi-35 helicopters.

Indonesia ready to buy new submarines in Russia — defense minister
The minister noted that Russian subs can perform longer missions underwater and cruise at lower depths compared with the subs from other countries
BANGKOK, September 21. /TASS/. Indonesia is considering Russia as a potential supplier of new submarines for its naval forces, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said on Monday upon the end of his meeting with deputies of the national parliament.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.
The new purchases had been endorsed by the president, Ryacudu said, adding a remark that it was much better to buy five new submarines than ten second-hand ones.
He named Russia as an expected supplier of the submarines, saying the Russian subs could perform longer missions underwater and cruise at lower depths compared with the subs from other countries.
Ryacudu did not specify the type of the submarines the Indonesian Armed Forces had interest in or the possible date for signing of the contract.
Russian Minister of Industry and Energy, Denis Manturov, said during a visit to Jakarta in October 2014 that Indonesia was considering a purchase of diesel-powered submarines of the Varshavyanka class.

"In September, Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said Indonesia had decided to replace its US-made Northrop F-5 Tiger II fighter jets with Russian Sukhoi Su-35s.
Jan Pieter Ate, director for international cooperation at the Indonesian defense ministry, said the country is interested in purchasing 32 advanced aircraft but a decision on the supplier had not yet been made and at the moment Indonesia is not engaged in direct negotiations with Russia on the matter The official told RIA Novosti that according to Indonesian law, any contract for the purchase of foreign weaponry should entail the transfer of at least 35 percent of the procured technology to the country. Ate added that such an agreement with Russia has still to be made. Last month, the Moscow-based Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade, citing sources, reported that Western companies had intensified their efforts to persuade Indonesia to purchase their aircraft after Jakarta announced its decision to buy Russian Su-35s."

Re: Russia - Indonesia arms contracts
35% is rather less than most countries ask for, and it will be 35% of an aircraft largely designed for export... that sounds fine... it would be more technology transfer than the UK is getting with F-35 and the UK invested 2 billion in the aircraft development...

Indonesia just signed a contract to buy 12 SU-35s. That brings foreign orders of SU-35 to 36 units. Nice number.
