A remarkably candid analysis by U.S. Navy Commander Garrett I. Campbell (also a fellow at the Brookings Institution) concludes that not only has Russia's military shown incredible competency in Syria, it has also done more with less — using “outdated” naval vessels to fire state-of-the-art cruise missiles with no western equivalent, for example. Some highlights from his article:

Russia's Air Power Is Nothing to Sneeze At

    According to Campbell:

The Russians are flying a significant number of sorties with recognizable successes. Current estimates range from 48 to 96 daily. This is a lot…
Can Russia sustain this level of air campaign? Maybe. Almost none of our NATO allies could match what Russia has done so far in the skies.

    Russia Does More With Less

The Navy Commander also warns again dismissing Russia's naval capabilities:

Russia's navy has been called “more rust than ready.” But Russia is, impressively, retrofitting older vessels and procuring newer ones. And the navy has unveiled a significant capability: Its Caspian Sea corvettes and frigates can fire cruise missiles at targets over 900 miles away. This is a previously unknown capability.

To put things in perspective, the two variants of the US Littoral Combat Ship, Freedom and Independence, are substantially larger at roughly 2,900 tons and 3,100 tons, respectively — but they do not possess any cruise missile or similar power-projection capability.

Stop Pretending Russia Isn't a Major Military Power

Campbell ends his analysis with a stern warning to his fellow NATO brass and western think tank goons:

Many assessments of what the Russian military can and cannot do have been inaccurate. This isn’t just problematic for facts' sake. More troubling, it risks skewing our assessment of how far Moscow will go in its Syrian intervention.

When Western analysts — and, in turn, Western leaders — seek to discredit Russian military capabilities, Moscow will likely continue to take the opportunity to prove them wrong.

Few photos of which this Syrian soldier claims to be Russian soldier and their vehicle. Looks like AKS-74 in his hands. Unifom however is unusual pattern for Russians, looks like version of uniform i saw few times on MVD members, some kind of Woodlandish pattern but never on soldiers. (and guy kinda does not look to me like he is Russian to be honest)

Reminds abit of Serbian M03 pattern too.

A bit more on the KAB-1500 use

Russian Su-34 frontline bombers stationed at the Hmaimim air base near the Syrian port of Latakia have used KAB-1500 guided bombs to destroy Islamic State targets, RIA Novosti quoted Russian Aerospace Forces spokesman Igor Klimov as saying.

Accompanied by Su-30SM multi-role fighter jets, the Su-34 planes dropped the 1,500 kg bombs on Islamic State targets in parts of eastern Syria controlled by the jihadist group. The Russian acronym KAB stands for "adjustable aircraft bomb" in English.

"The KAB-1500 guided bomb is known for its high accuracy. It is equipped with a laser seeker which helps to direct the bomb," Klimov said. The KAB-1500L-Pr version, fitted with a 1,100-kg concrete-piercing warhead, is designed for attacking reinforced concrete fortifications, runways and rail bridges. The KAB-1500L-F version is equipped a 1,180-kg blast warhead for surface targets, such as military and industrial facilities. According to Klimov, these KAB-1500 bombs can pierce through twenty meters of soil or a three-meter reinforced concrete ceiling.

No I doubt anyone here is in a jungle. The item has been covered but it is just in a more appropriate thread

    https://www.russiadefence.net/t4524p30-russian-civil-aviation-news-2

I don't see what it has to do with Russian aid to Syria, that is this thread. Unless you believe that it was shot down or had a bomb as revenge by ISIS, but even then the link to here is tenuous.

The claiming of responsibility was through their usual 'media' group which uses a specific format. Multiple times they've spread false news through this media group claiming the downing of helicopters whilst nothing happened, they'll claim things they didn't do as well for attention.

ISIS claimed responsibility that gives Russia the right to deploy ground forces. If someone got killed and you claim responsibility then you would make yourself guilty of manslaughter.

Not really lol. If you cant describe how you did it, if your prints are not on the weapon, if people saw you on other place at the time when murder happened... you might end up in jail but for false testimony. Police does not take someones word for granted, you might be protecting someone so no...

In this case ISIS is guilty because they shot it down. An airliner does not crash on its own.

What are you on about? You do realise that aircraft can experience malfunctions and that pilots can commit errors? You're not seriously suggesting that every airliner that ever crashed was brought down by jihadists with a desire to return the world to 7th Century moral prescriptives. You're having a laugh, aren't you?
