It is difficult to imagine a Kurd region air force.Monarchist wrote:What will happen to syrian army controlled bases, airports, military units in kurdish controlled areas?
Much would have to be done with at least some kind of acceptance from Turkey, given their Kurdish problem.
Turkeys "Kurdish problem"? I think its more like Kurds "Turkish problem" given the endless hostility of the Turkish state to granting the Kurdish people even a minimal level of self-autonomy, which even extends to outright aggression against Kurdish autonomy in neighbouring states.

Anyone knows the difference in bomb munition capabilities
between the Su-34 and Tu-22m in KAB-250 and KAB-500 bombs and Kab-1500?
How much bombs of each one each plane can drop ?

Here is the the thing. Syria under Assad or anyone else can grant Kurds special autonomy in Syria. So it stays part of Syria but they govern themselves more or less. Much like Chechens and others in Russia. This would be a good move for Syria as a whole and bad news for the Turks regardless.

60 or 70 x FAB-250 if I remember correctly. In any case, the Tu-22M3 can carry significantly more... in internal bay + a few more on 5 external pylons if needed
---
The FOAB 'might' be tested in Syria according to K. Sivkov, president of the academy for geopolitics

nice... thanks for the info..
Hopefully Russia will use many FOAB hundreds if possible.. lol or many dozens
and drop it on them.
Update.. found something..
Su-34
Tu-22m
Its that information is correct the difference is huge.. in Kab-500 alone
the Su-34 carry apparently only x6.. while the Tu-22m up to 30x..
This is the plane Russia needs to produce.. in real mass. screw pak-da ..
just make a new modern stealthy version of Tu-22m with fully digital avionics and heavy
jamming capabilities and you have a real winner. as a bonus the backfire is supersonic.
So if those charts are correct one Tu-22m can drop as many kab-500 as FIVE Su-34.
So Five Tu-22m planes in Syria will have the same fire power of 25 x Su-34.
but with way more range .and the flexibility to carry way more weapons including
nukes.

Looking forward to seeing more videos of the strategic bombers hitting stuff with their massive payloads. Anyway, I saw a tweet recently from a journalist that spoke to Al-Jazeera on the degree of anonymity. The journalist said that the Surrender Monkeys (French) were hitting targets abandoned by ISIS a while ago. I may have gotten some of the details mixed up but that was the general gist of it. I don't have a lot of spare time so I can't find that tweet.

Russian mod tweeted that they will cooperate with French in their air attacks as soon as their aircraft carrier arrives. So pretty much establish joint control. This is very popular among french, look at this poll.

Well I do hope those tragedies make two countries bond closer. Back in Soviet times french culture was something we used to adore. Movies, music, arts. Now it is in decline, but still plenty of Russians my age still have warm feeling for french.

Interesting that the cluster of bombs was still very close together after their trip to ground level. Quite different to a B-52 pattern.Cyberspec wrote:max steel wrote:Possibly the Tu-22M rain caught on video

Using the Tu-22M has a small logistics benefit, especially if heavily loaded. It reduces the amount of airborne munitions that have to be put through the probably pretty congested Syrian Express supply chain, allowing more capacity for artillery ammo.

As of Nov. 17th:
Over these 48 days, the Russian aviation group has made 2,289 sorties and delivered 4,111 missile strikes on the terrorists’ main infrastructure facilities, munitions depots and manpower locations.
http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/50714
and for the mathematically challenged:
2289/48 = 47.7 sorties per day
4111/48 = 85.6 missile strikes per day
4111/2289 = 1.8 missile strikes per sortie

Very good PR. This should make the "new" Russian military even more popular among Russians (and non-Russians alike)?

It would be nice if they could deploy the Tu-22M closer, that way they could fly at full load (with external pylons) and make two strike per sortie.

Turkish intelligence chief: Putin's intervention in Syria is against Islam and international law, ISIS is a reality and we are optimistic about the future
Ankara--- Hakan Fidan, the head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization, known by the MİT acronym, has drawn a lot of attention and criticism for his controversial comments about ISIS.
Mr. Hakan Fidan, Turkish President's staunchest ally, condemned Russian military intervention in Syria, accusing Moscow of trying to 'smother' Syria's Islamist revolution and serious breach of United Nations law.
“ISIS is a reality and we have to accept that we cannot eradicate a well-organized and popular establishment such as the Islamic State; therefore I urge my western colleagues to revise their mindset about Islamic political currents, put aside their cynical mentalité and thwart Vladimir Putin's plans to crush Syrian Islamist revolutionaries,” Anadolu News Agency quoted Mr. Fidan as saying on Sunday.
Fidan further added that in order to deal with the vast number of foreign Jihadists craving to travel to Syria, it is imperative that ISIS must set up a consulate or at least a political office in Istanbul. He underlined that it is Turkey’s firm belief to provide medical care for all injured people fleeing Russian ruthless airstrikes regardless of their political or religious affiliation.
Recently as the fierce clashes between Russian army and ISIS terrorists raging across the war-torn Syria, countless number of ISIS injured fighters enter the Turkish territory and are being admitted in the military hospitals namely those in Hatay Province. Over the last few days, the Syrian army with the support of Russian air cover could fend off ISIS forces in strategic provinces of Homs and Hama.
Emile Hokayem, a Washington-based Middle East analyst said that Turkey's Erdoğan and his oil-rich Arab allies have dual agendas in the war on terror and as a matter of fact they are supplying the Islamist militants with weapons and money, thus Russian intervention is considered a devastating setback for their efforts to overthrow Syrian secular President Assad.
Hokayem who was speaking via Skype from Washington, D.C. highlighted the danger of Turkish-backed terrorist groups and added that what is happening in Syria cannot be categorized as a genuine and popular revolution against dictatorship but rather it is a chaos orchestrated by Erdoğan who is dreaming to revive this ancestor's infamous Ottoman Empire.
