That's a lot of 'gear' on the way.

Any more detail on that one?

PS. damn I was slow with posting that photo of the RPK soldier in he Syrian War thread.

Here we go. Note the different turnaround times for Minsk and Yamal, perhaps the Yamal crew had a couple of days off! Yauza is the Arctic spec supply ship, not Ro-Ro like the others.

    25.01.2016 156 Yamal Southbound Russia
    25.01.2016 142 Novocharkassk Southbound Russia
    22.01.2016 127 Minsk Southbound Russia

    18.01.2016 Yauza Southbound Russia

    17.01.2016 156 Yamal Northbound Russia

There are also more modern RPK's than the sample we see from RASHA. It's the things we see on the sample that make the WTFometer go Sputnik.

Also note the containers behind those boxes. Still got sea salt on them.

Thanks but not really in my case. As to the others here, vastly more accurate than much of CSI which doesn't bear much relation to reality, its really a propaganda piece so the US population thinks this stuff happens, fools. The office lighting would fail Health and Safety for a start and it is downhill from there.

BTR-80 with lots of aerials. Does the SAA have these?

If not, and it looks pretty clean, could it have been part of the protection detail on the Salma journalist tour?

I would guess that it is down to personal preference too. Seems like the Russian Military is much more lax about what our boys can take compared to other world class armies. Must be nice from their view to have so much leverage to decide what weapons you can take.

I remember reading books about the personal accounts from US intelligence and special force operators who were the very first to be sent into Afghanistan. There, only the very, very top of the food chain were allowed to pick between an AK pattern rifle and a M4A1 during the initial fights against the Taliban and Al-Qaida.

Most special forces get a choice of personal weapon... within reason of course.

Certainly I have seen a lot of photos of a range of weapons used by special forces in Afghanistan where AKs are used as well as AK-74s...

It all comes down to confidence... I am sure in an open environment where range is an issue that I would prefer a light flat shooting round, while at shorter ranges or in places where there is a lot of bush or trees that limit max range and can obscure a target that slower heavier rounds make more sense.

Basically the difference between cover and concealment...

You could stand behind a sheet of paper that would conceal your presence but wont offer cover from bullets or fragments.

With small high velocity rounds a lot of mundane items offer cover that would only be concealment for a heavier round.

I usually prefer militarymaps.info but I stumbled across this jem on liveuamap. They are reporting that their own worst nightmare has arrived in the form of Buryats to fight the Beheaders. So the Ukrops are still licking their wounds from Debaltsevo.

Half-decent video report from ABC News, usual MSM slant still present but toned down a litle bit:

How do change the language on militarymaps.info, everytime I go on there? It does not work, Liveuamap is pro west but it is simpler, so I just see the map and not read anything, they could/should make militarymaps.info a little easier to nagivate.

There is the icon with the flag on the sidebar. That should translate the language to one of your choice, sometimes it doesn't work too. I agree that liveuamap is much nicer to look at despite its political leanings, but militarymaps has more information if you know how to read it.

I use militarymaps.info usually when I am at home and have access to a big powerful desktop because it has a tendency of crashing browsers and sucking up processing time.

In other news the FSA Southern Front has just gotten a brand new MLRS that originates from China.

I belive its just MLRS launcher placed on top of HOWO truck, it does not really look like real factory made MLRS.
