In the event of the Turkish Army crossing the border in force those Iskanders could be hitting them almost before they passed Syrian passport control probably much faster and certainly at lower risk than trying to get aircraft there. Missiles seem to be favourite for area bombardment in these days of very valuable pilots.magnumcromagnon wrote:kvs wrote:ult wrote:Militarov wrote:These shots made with boiled potato appeared around, claiming its Iskander in Syria (Latakia?):

Yes, it is Latakia. It's from this video.

The only reason to have this system in Syria is to send Erdo-turd a signal. Any attempt to invade Syria and try to attack
Russian units can be met with a tactical nuke strike. The possibility of there being nuclear warheads in the theater is likely
extremely high. I just don't see conventional warheads having much deterrence effect. The S-400 system is a different
game altogether.
More likely conventional warheads, and Iskander-M's presence is probably their to take out any of the Patriot Batteries under Turkish control (if Turdogan feels hungry for neckties, preferably a Colombian necktie), giving little resistance to various kinds of PGM's strikes.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Just have a look at the map.
The major Turkish airbase at in Incirlik is right within the range of ISKANDER.
In case of conflict, that airbase and its aircraft will be gone.

Nah, I think the second video is just edited. You can notice the sudden change in roll axis (upper scale), the camera direction (arrow in the circle in the bottom left corner) and the speed (goes from 163 to 158 km/h in 1 frame). It looks to me like they cut a couple of seconds out.
Edit: I also just noticed that there is a flight time displayed for the rocket. Just above the distance. 10 seconds for the first missile and 13 for the second. That confirms that they cut from 6 to 1 seconds in the second part of the video.

The full and long article is at http://eng.mil.ru/en/news_page/country/more.htm?id=12082004@egNews This is from the full version, gives an idea of the size of the task just accomplished.
By March, illegal armed groups have concentrated near Palmyra more than 4000 fighters, at least 25 tanks and MICVs, more than 20 units of bombardment and rocket artillery, more than 40 mortars, about 100 antitank guided missile systems and more than 50 cross-country vehicles with mounted heavy armament. Moreover, terrorists possessed more than 10 trucks rigged with explosives controlled by suicide bombers as well as UAVs.
ISIS terrorists installed the system of obstacles around Tadmur, which includes several levels of defence as well as defensive posts, firing points equipped on the heights, and control centres.
This is cut down the Sputnik version. The video links referred to are below.
The Russian Defense Ministry has published unique footage of terrorist targets in Palmyra being destroyed by a Russian Aerospace Forces unit.
A jaw-dropping video of a Russian Aerospace Forces group obliterating a series of Daesh targets in Palmyra has been published on the Russian Defense Ministry's website. In particular, the footage showed the combat helicopter Mi-28N destroying Daesh armored vehicles with an antitank guided missile in the Palmyra area.
In addition, the video demonstrated Russian airstrikes on Daesh terrorists and their infrastructure based north-east of Palmyra.
The publication of the footage came as the Russian Army's General Staff said that the Russian warplanes conducted about 500 sorties, hitting 2,000 Daesh targets between March 7 and March 27.
Sergey Rudskoy, the Chief of the General Staff's Main Operations Directorate, said that the Russian jets destroyed most of the terrorists' command centers in the first couple of days. According to him, the warplanes destroyed columns of cars carrying terrorists and ammunition, which were trying to break through to Palmyra from Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.
Separately, he said that approximately 180 hectares (about 445 acres) of Palmyra's historical and residential districts have yet to be cleared of landmines and explosives.
On March 27, the Syrian Army, supported by pro-government militia and the Russian Aerospace Forces, recaptured the historic city, which had been under Daesh control for about a year. The city of Palmyra and its historic ruins had been controlled by Daesh since May 2015. The jihadist group, which has been condemned as a terrorist organization by Russia, the United States and other countries, shocked the world when it destroyed part of the ruins, which are a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

Vikhr is not exclusive to Su-25/Ka-52 by technology but by dedication, there are not many produced, still quite a few in stock and reproduction just runs up. Vikhr needs only a laser designator that is connected to BLIK and coding modul, BLIK is standard on all russian modern attack helicopters and subsystem of the Okhotnik Image Processor. So there should be no problems to launch Vikhr's from Mi-28.
The video is most likely edited, the Vikhr has a slightly different visual launch characteristics aswell the speed are only peaks 610m/s for Vikhr not the average speed, the average speed reduces to roughly 500m/s after traveling first few kilometers, same for Ataka slower after few kilometers, so you can't calculate the actual speed that easily at such engagement ranges.

Well its over. The crews of the Syrian Express have had their rest. Its back to normal, four LLC southbound in the last week. Got some stocks to replenish.
Today's LLC, 031 Alexander Otrakovsky was accompanied by 603 Serpukhova a 2015 crop Buyan corvette. 027 Minsk seems to be the leader of the pack in terms of trips, it went south again two days ago.

The helicopters itself does calculate everything and displays it. It takes into account the speed of helicopter, its altitude and distance to target.

Interesting Russian convoy coming out of Palmyra. Might not have captured the first vehicles. Did someone say not many boots on the ground?

Anyone know what the white arrows on the Mi-28's HUD indicates? The Iraqi Mi-28's had them, and I thought they could have been edited in, but this footage shows the same thing.

Not exactly what i meant, but i am to blame for that. I mean the missiles Ataka/Shturm and Vikhr have different rocket motors, they accelerate in different speeds aswell have a slightly different launching profile, their acceleration speed to reach maximum speed is different, vikhr reaches it earlier, has a low amount of time it can hold it and decelerates in speed over last 4-6km and maintains over that course roughly the average speeds of 500m/s with an end phase of further deceleration in speed which i can't know speed or range. So by the speed you can calculate from the footage it is not entirely clear which missile is used. The figures and speeds of the initial speed, peak and endurance, deceleration and endurance of its deceleration time to average speed and end phase speed are not known. Never found information on it. That is why my figures in my docs are not entirely true, but are rough figures for a few ATGM's and can not be counted as more than 95% accurate and that is quite optimistic.
To get any of such figures we need two factors to get the unknown, but there are never more than two factors present for the phases which makes it impossible to calculate without having technical figures of the ATGM's and rocket motors performance themselfs, which is beyond my free time aswell my knowledge. I haven't finished the book by stealthflanker yet about tactical missiles and their designs to get into such detail. I doubt i will have the time any time soon to do so anyways.
Guesstimation is the most thing we can do like with most things.
I hope i made it this time better clear what i meant.

I still think they are edited. Lack of footage is also an issue to make it more clear what they are indicating if they are part of FCS/WCS.

I saw those as well, but the flight of the second missile seemed largely correct, also the 5 seconds cut are intriguing...And I've seen blind WSO too, US Cobras would hit 3/4 seconds early with upgraded TOWS...

Nothing intriguing about the cuts, they wanted to make a 30 second video to embed it in twitter without additional work.
