First of all nuclear reactors can't explode like bombs... the enriched uranium used in reactors is nowhere near the enrichment quality needed for a sustained runaway nuclear reaction... in other words they will get super hot and melt, but wont explode.

If you put them in water then the super heated material might get to a temperature where the hydrogen and oxygen separate... a spark could ignite the mixture for a conventional explosion, but there would be no nuclear explosion involved.
