Turkish drones are flying freely over Syrian Airspace targetting SAA troops freely and Russia is letting them do it.

They are knocking off many troops and equipment with these drones.

    Syrian War: News #21 - Page 15 Idlebmap20200225

What exactly transpired on Feb. 27? At around 5 p.m., a Turkish mechanized infantry battalion, comprised of about 400 soldiers, became the target of an airstrike on a road between al- Bara and Balyun, some 5 kilometers (3 miles) north of Kafr Nabl in southern Idlib.

According to local sources contacted by Al-Monitor, two Russian Sukhoi Su-34 and two Syrian Su-22 fighter jets had launched intensive bombings of Turkey-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) targets in southern Idlib at around 11 a.m. that day.

The same jets hit the Turkish convoy in coordinated action, the sources said. A first, a relatively lighter strike by the Su-22s forced the convoy to stop, after which the pounding intensified, forcing the soldiers to take shelter in several roadside buildings.

What followed next was likely the dropping of KAB-1500L bombs — a variation of advanced laser-guided bunker buster bombs capable of penetrating to depths of up to 20 meters (65 feet) — by the Russian jets.

Two of the buildings collapsed in the attack, leaving the Turkish soldiers under the rubble.

At least 35 Turkish soldiers, some say 55, were killed and some 60+ were wounded.

The incident was a signal to Turkey that its escapades have to end.

Throughout the last weeks Turkey had used large armed drones to attack the Syrian army. The Turkish troops in Idelb governorate had additionally used man portable air defense missiles (MANPADs) against Syrian helicopters and Russian bombers. Enough was enough.

To use manpads against Russian planes is an act of war. The Russian strike was a reminder to the Turks that it is quite able to wage one.

Russia denied that its planes had launched the attack and Turkey accused Syria of doing it. But these statements are designed to deescalate and to allow for continued peaceful relations between Russia and Turkey. Both sides know very well what really had happened.

There is still Erdogan's threat to launch a full sized attack on the Syrian army on March 1. He threatened to push it back to the old Sochi memorandum ceasefire lines. Russia has moved two frigates into the Mediterranean Sea which are armed with cruise missiles. These will be used if Turkey really attempts to implement its idiotic plan.

NATO and the U.S. have both rejected to get involved in the Idleb affair. Turkey is on its own and Erdogan will have to be careful. He is not only losing in Syria but also in Libya and he can not risk to further upset Russia because the Turkish economy depends on it.

    https://www.moonofalabama.org/2020/02/syria-deadly-bombstrike-warns-turkey-to-end-its-escapades.html

not a fan of moon of alabama , they have reported wrong information before.. but take this as is..
it could be close to the truth or noth..  Russian mod official version is that the turkey convoy ,was inside a group
of alqaeda terrorist ,that was leading an assault on SAA and they were stopped. so doesn't look like
the official version contradict the moonofalabama version.

    That's overall nonsense.

It's to cover the SAA and SyAF failures. Drones are open targets especially since no life onboard.

Now I wonder where these sources come from exactly? I'm hearing wild shit all over the place - apparently an Airforce Base used by Russia was hit by Turkish artillery. Nothing to back it up of course. Then being told not allowed to shoot at drones? BS.

I am not from Turkey, and never even been to that country.

    I am actually Polish.

No, I do not have any known ethnic Ossetian ancestry despite my forum name, but I believe I have lots of Lah ancestry, a proto-Polish tribe from south-eastern Poland (Zamojszczyzna) who some believe (like a 19th century Polish Jew named Gumplewicz) to have been Slavicized Goths, and since Goths are actually of Ossetian origin, so I use the name.

I am at least around 90% ethnic Polish origin, have also some minor ancestry from Macedonia (could be Macedonian, Greek, or even Vlach), and also marginal ethnic German (possibly including Austrian) ancestry.

There is a princely Ottoman family from Macedonia I could be descended from, who were apparently of ethnic Catalan origin (a splinter group of the Catalan Company that joined the Ottoman Turks), but I do not know that for certain, and as I wrote my ancestry that is apparently from Macedonia is minor (6.25% or 1/16).

Long ago some people told me I sound totally like Arnold Schwarzenegger when I say "I'll be back."

Ossetia of course is my very distant ancestral land, but I also have never been there.

On all the video date and hours were hidden. What do you know what they targeted or not today ?

Something interesting also happened yesterday, Gerasimov met with french top general of french forces in Paris. Coincidence ? Maybe not. France hates Erdogan and I wouldn't be surprised if they agreed on something like "take Idlib" but hurt Turkey a lot and we will keep NATO out of the conflict. The main conflict with France is in the mediteranean and Russia send the 3 Grigorovitch there.

Even if Turk drone pictures and claims are real. This points to SAA, not used to facing enemy with more advanced weapons. They are taken by surprise, a bit. Also as someone said, tracking many drones in mountain area, not easy for radar. Busy airspace, gets confusing with radar jamming and friendlies in sky too. So SAA needs to use mobile AD units to advance with troops. Passive optical detection. Iranians make many types.

Also defending may not always be cost effective. Or possible. Need trained troops. May be simpler to retaliate with existing equipment. Already trained troops. Even if Turk claims are right, about inflicting casualties. The SAA liberated large area. A few more offensives, and SAA reaches the border. With minimal losses.

In the meantime the SAA liberated another couple of villages south of the M4 highway. So much to the censored here claiming that the SAA is "being wiped out".
Also the russian VKS is bombing Saraqib and the surrounding area, paving the way for an attack by the syrian forces. The Turks and there moderate unicorns lost 1.000+ fighters to capture the town and soon it will be lost again. Prepare for another Twitter offensive by Erdoscum and his minions to declare a huuuuuge victory with hundreds of thousands of killed syrian soldiers. Laughing

I don't deny SAA losing a lot of equipment but one thing's for sure, numbers of dead for SAA are overblown. And the drone videos - a lot of them are indeed undated.

Either SAA has a lot of disposable soldiers, or someone is lying about their kill numbers
