RIP That won't go unavenged.
Shows a difference between the operations of the Russian vs US militaries. Russian officers are out there with their men in less protected transport than the Americans. Highly unlikely a US officer of that rank would be in a truck like that? Comment from Seig?
Probably a different level of retribution as well, not sure what the Lt Col:civilian ratio is for the US but its probably quite high and Predator drone based nowadays.

Mine protected vehicles should be used at all times.

Maybe instead of going around building military themed churches they could actually buy MRAPs in a wide number and field them to those who need them in Syria.
Seriously, there are units in Russia receiving MRAPs while soldiers serving in combat zones get Ye Old BTR-82s and mammoth shit unarmored and non-mine resistant trucks.
RuMOD seriously needs to hurry up with their Tornado wheeled chassis unification program, it is absurd at this point.

Israeli Foreign Minister: Israel will not allow a repetition of the incident of the downing of the Russian plane "Il-20" in Syria, and the mechanism for preventing accidents is working well
The Israeli Foreign Minister on the Israeli strikes on Syria: Israel and Russia are working to prevent the situation from deteriorating to the point of a dangerous escalation
Israeli Foreign Minister: We want the Russian army not to suffer any damage, regardless of what happens in Syria
NOTE:-Bashar al assad never asked Russia to mediate in stopping Israeli attacks on Syria, nor did he ever ask the Russian military to take part in combating Israeli attacks, nor did he ask for the use of the S300 that Russia provided for their use.
Russian and Syrian military cooperation is exclusively related to assistance in the fight against terrorism, military training, equipment, and the return of sovereignty on the entire territory of the SAR.

Capsule trucks again
How many KIAs do they need before they learn their lesson?

Russia has MRAPS obviously in Syria, including typhoon K. For more intense areas. These capsule trucks, the capsule is protected, not so much the cab.
Just because a vehicle is big, doesn't mean it's well protected. We lost quite a few troops due to ied on our mraps or armored vehicles in Afghanistan.

It is not the case that no Turkish troops will die in Syria... just because they have big MRAPs.
The enemy will try with all sorts of weapons... when they fail they will adapt their tactics until they work again and Russia needs to adapt and change too... better anti mine equipment would be more valuable than just sending bigger heavier vehicles.

Surely the Russian Army doesn't think, after that truck IED, that no-one is after them?
There's been several instances where Turkish troops were killed by an IED.
The 'old' BTR-82 & Kamaz MRAP survived quite a few IED's, i.e.:

If you hit a large mine or IED, regardless of the level of protection - you're likely to die. It should be obvious as there are mines that are meant to completely destroy a tank.
The rearmament process was created so troops don't need to travel in:

It's been nearly 6 years since Russia has involved itself in Syria. They lost around 120 servicemen. Compare that to Turkey (300; more if you count the more global Kurdish - Turkish fighting) and CJTF–OIR (>30) that have seen much more limited involvement overall.

From the pics I've seen Russia uses top notch de-mining equipment in Syria and the specialist troops are well protected.
IED's is a big problem for almost any vehicle as they normally use heavy artillery ammo in most cases but they should have at least one vehicle capable of taking a hit from a land mine at the front of a convoy but ideally you would like to have as many as possible.
South Africa was at the forefront in developing mine-resistant vehicles (MRAP)and they really managed to save a lot of lives. In fact during my Citizen Force duties I was the designated driver of the Buffel (Buffalo) that was built onto a Unimog chassis. The Buffel was mainly used by the regular Army.
It tended to roll over when it was struck by an anti-tank mine and due to being an open-top vehicle some casualties occurred in the aftermath but in generally it served it's purpose well.
We also had the Caspir, which was a much better vehicle and was used by the Special Forces and the Police as well. Many modern day MRAP's took the Caspir as a basis for further development. The Australian Bushmaster being one example. From the pics you can see that the vehicles took some small arms hits but with little effect and the one that hit a mine only lost it's wheel. Everything and everybody else was fine.

Tiger is Syria isn't a problem (and it already has replacement in the pipeline, the Atlet)
Problems are those retarded misbegotten capsule trucks which should all have been dumped the moment first Typhoon was assembled
