Russian military intervention and aid to Syria #14

Russia should just let Turkey pretend it's a superpower at this stage. Maybe even surreptitiously egg it on, and pretend to 'negotiate' with it the fate of the Ukraine, or whatever.

I don't think there's much chance of Turkish dive-bombers wiping out most of the Russian air force in the first couple of weeks of a surprise invasion, so whatever ends up happening it can't ultimately be too negative for Russia. Most importantly it'll be good for the lulz.
Sort of how the US let Saddam Hussein invade Kuwait. In fact even laid the incentive for him doing so with some pipeline shenanigance.
Except in this case Russia doesn't need to take action, but simply lay back and chill.

Earlier this week, Israel Air Force carried-out a successful airstrike at port of Latakia destroying a large quantity of weapons & ammunition unloaded from an Iranian cargo ship. This is the first airstrike of Israeli AirForce at this port.

Russian military forces are cooperating with Israel in Syria. Israelis inform them 15 minutes before each airstrike.

This is not exactly news, Russia made it clear in no uncertain terms that they are not interested in local BS

Iranians​ in Syria are protected as long as they focus on fighting jihadists, with everything else they are on their own especially if they try to use Russia as cover for random crap

And nobody forgot their little power play with Assad's dumbass little brother, that ended up with some serious parental spanking, can't believe there actually thought they would be able to get away with it

I have not seen anything on this apart from a post by a certain Amir Tsarfati on his Telegram channel? Amir seems to be some wannabe Mossad with a Ukrainian background now living in Israel? Do you have a more reliable reference?

Looking at the layout of the site it looked as if it would need intel genius to ID the location/contents of particular containers.

The photos of the resultant fire didn't show any munitions cookoff, just pictures soon after of a coffee consignment.

Syrian Express back to being heavily loaded.

This is win win for Russia, the Russian military clears out 'old' stock and gets new to deal with their threats, whilst the Syrians get better stuff than they had and still more than adequate to deal with the threat they face.

Let me hope we start to see some progress and Latakia and daraa fully secured along with complete eradication of Isis in the desert. Then they can turn full attention to Idilb. It been to stagnant for too long.

The RuAF are training in the Syrian sky.RUAF specialists will work out the support of the land units of the SAA. The training involved: 4 Su-35, 6 Su-34, 6 Mi-8, and 4 Ka-52, as well as electronic warfare equipment. the A50 will work out the transfer to the Qamyshli airfield.

Interesting move as the SAA and Russian forces nibble away at the edges of the 'US' zone.

Can't see where on the photo though

Another of those rare glimpses (OPSEC pretty good) that lift the curtain showing no let up in the Russians using Syria as a training and test area.

The last 6 years has clearly had a big impact on Russia's armed forces and now US/NATO is feeling it with a vengeance in Europe.

Think how different it would all have been if back in 2011/13 the US hadn't decided to turn Syria over. Talk about Law of Unintended Consequences

Well, as Syria was a very good testing ground indeed, what we see is a general outcome of Shoigu's rule.
This guy is a bloody terminator, he just crushes everything that makes problems and rolls forward.
Syria goes so smooth, because of the reforms he applied after 2008, not that the Russian army is better because of Syria. The cause vs. the effect.

Good move. This will make IAF attacks on Latakia port a lot more problematic.

Special groups from the military police of the Russian Armed Forces and the Syrian military began joint round-the-clock patrolling of the seaport of Latakia. the preparation by gangs of submarine sabotage groups to carry out explosions in the ports of Tartus and Latakia.

Meanwhile 5 Ropucha-class landing ships and 1 Ivan Gren-class landing ship are now in the English Channel on their way from the Baltic fleet to, at a guess, the Black Sea.

Are they going to support a landing force around Odessa, or similar, or are they off to help out the Syrian Express?

Interesting that an Ivor Gren is among them. First time our of the Baltic.

The photos show the Ropucha as fairly well loaded, they don't look empty, so first stop Tartus?
