Dozens of Texas hospitals are out of ICU beds as COVID-19 cases again overwhelm the state's capacity
"This surge is by far the fastest and most aggressive that we've seen," said the health authority for Austin and Travis County, who urged eligible Texans to get vaccinated.

Dozens of Texas hospitals have run out of intensive care unit beds as COVID-19 surges faster than any other time during the pandemic, propelled by the new delta variant.

The state is divided into 22 trauma service areas, and half of them reported 10 or fewer available ICU beds on Sunday. As more than 9,400 COVID-19 patients fill the state’s ICUs, which are reserved for the patients who are the sickest or most injured, the trauma service area that includes LAREDO (ON THE BORDER) reported no available ICU beds, while the area that includes ABILENE reported having one.

At least 53 Texas hospitals have no available ICU capacity, according to numbers reported to the federal government during the week ending Aug. 5. In Austin, five hospitals were at or above 90% of their ICU capacity during the same period, with two reporting no available ICU beds.


Around 87.1% of all hospital beds in Texas are in use — the highest level since the start of the pandemic — with 14.1% of those beds occupied by COVID-19 patients. When Gov. Greg Abbott began to relax some COVID-19 restrictions on businesses in October, his order maintained reduced restaurant capacity and kept bars closed in regions in which 15% or more of hospital beds were filled with COVID-19 patients.


Dr. David Callender, president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System, a 17-hospital system spanning SOUTHEAST Texas, said the “onslaught” of people hospitalized with COVID-19 during the recent surge could overwhelm its capacity if the current trend continues.
The system now has more than 800 people hospitalized with COVID-19, with nearly a third of its ICU beds occupied by COVID-19 patients, he said. At times, he said hospitals have had no pediatric ICU beds available and had to transport young patients across the state or even out of the state.

The United States is facing perfect storm conditions for the grueling continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic. The long-term economic impact could hasten the end of its global power as we know it.

Infections, hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise again – as they are in other capitalist states. But the outlook for the U.S. is uniquely bleak.

Already, the US has the shameful title of having the world’s biggest death toll from the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and its disease Covid-19. At over 630,000 deaths, that represent nearly 15 percent of the world’s total. Despite a relatively high level of vaccination (50 percent of the population), the disease appears to be resurgent.

The problem for the United States is the dominance of capitalist imperatives over social policy which prevents a coherent, effective public health strategy. The imperative of private profit is also present in European nations, but to a lesser extent compared with the US. Britain is probably closer to the US than any other European country in its compliance with capitalist interests, and it is no coincidence that Britain has the worst Covid-19 mortality in Europe, despite having a high rate of vaccination.

Compliance with capitalist interests prevents a proven policy of containing and eradicating the Covid-19 virus. That policy is best seen in practice in China where the government implements strict lockdowns, travel restrictions, widespread testing, rapid tracing of infections, masking-wearing in public, and mass vaccination. However, that policy is made feasible because China’s socialist system provides the public resources to enable compliance. Public health is the priority, not commercial interests.

By contrast, in the United States, the public is largely expected to bear the costs of lockdowns, long-term unemployment and general living costs. With an over-reliance on vaccination alone, the Biden administration is declaring the end of lockdowns, social distancing and wearing of masks. Government aid for the unemployed and rental assistance for families is being terminated.

Workers are being forced back to workplaces and schools are being reopened in total denial of the epidemiological scientific advice to maintain isolation. Why? Because of the imperative for capitalist businesses to resume profit-making. And of course, without adequate government support to laid-off workers, many millions of citizens are frustrated by the need to get back to work.

One can easily understand anti-lockdown protests when people are not given financial support to cope with lockdown. The problem is not the practice of public health policy per se, it is the practice of public health policy in a capitalist society where there is little support for furloughed workers.

Another distinctive problem for the United States – and to lesser extent European states – is the inordinate level of misinformation. Millions of Americans believe that there is no pandemic. Despite the death toll and prevalent sickness, it is incredible that so many people are convinced that the pandemic phenomenon is all a hoax. Such a view is particularly popular among Trump supporters and US Republicans who hold the outlandish conspiratorial belief that it’s all a giant ruse to take away individual liberty, impose a “Grand Reset” and a “fascist liberal tyranny” (what a discombobulation!).

This kind of unscientific conspiracy delusion feeds into other irrational convictions that are opposed to wearing face masks in public or against the administering of vaccines. Irresponsible pundits and media commentators especially on the right-wing Murdoch outlets Fox and Sky promulgate anti-vaccination theories that are deterring large sections of the population from taking up inoculation. Some of the wilder fringes actually believe that vaccines will turn us into zombies as in the horror film, I Am Legend. Then these same pundits talk about the danger of “Covid civil war” breaking out. Well, they have helped create an atmosphere of confusion, fear, ignorance and distrust.

The United States is doomed. In its private-profit-driving society, all basic measures of public health management are confounded. On top of this, the level of misinformation and misdirection also further thwarts a rational plan to contain the pandemic. But I will say that most think the Democrats are attempting to take away individual liberty. They think Democrat policies are geared to make persons dependent on the Government, then the Government can dictate to them.

Laredo sending busloads of migrants to Austin and Houston without testing for coronavirus
McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Calling it a “public health crisis,” the mayor of Laredo told Border Report on Wednesday that his South Texas city is sending busloads of migrants to Austin and Houston without testing them for coronavirus.



Laredo Mayor Pete Saenz said the city is sending four charter buses per day with a total of 200 migrants who have been sent by Border Patrol from the Rio Grande Valley to Laredo. The migrants, mostly all families, have legally been released by federal authorities to travel in the United States.

The migrants are arriving at the Greyhound stations in Austin and Houston and provided with PPE and masks but Saenz said he is uncertain whether non-governmental organizations on the ground in those cities are testing the migrants when they arrive. He said that Laredo officials, however, are notifying emergency management coordinators in Austin and Houston that the buses are en route.

“These migrants aren’t being tested. Border Patrol doesn’t test them. We much less don’t have the infrastructure of testing and quarantining. When you test then if they’re positive then there’s an obligation there, or duty, to quarantine and that’s expensive and the NGOs don’t really have that capacity here locally,” Saenz said.

The City of Laredo in July filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security to stop the transfer of migrants from the RGV, citing an increase in migrants with coronavirus being sent to the region. The city also issued a disaster declaration to prevent migrants from the RGV from entering the Laredo region. But, nevertheless, the buses still kept coming.

Saenz said this new arrangement is a compromise that the city reached with DHS officials, and it includes the city hiring a charter bus company to transport the migrants to other cities.

Because the city would be obligated to try to isolate and help migrants quarantine, Saenz said they are not testing them for coronavirus, adding that they do not have the hotel space or space in their migrant shelter to do so.

“We entered into an understanding that we would drop the lawsuit, which we did, and then Border Patrol would deliver these migrants, about 200 or so per day, to a city facility that we leased and then we, in turn as a city retained a bussing company to transport these migrants farther north here in Texas,” Saenz said.

Initially, the city was sending the migrants to Dallas, Austin and Houston, but the cost to the city was too high, Saenz said, “so we decided to just focus on Austin and Houston.”
The buses cost Laredo $8,000 to $10,000 per day, Saenz said, and the city is hoping to get reimbursed by FEMA.

Laredo firefighters are facilitating the transfer of the migrants in a warehouse area that Saenz describes as a “little bus terminal” where snacks, porta potties and toiletries are provided to the migrants as they get off DHS buses and onto the Laredo charter buses bound for Austin and Houston.

He said providing the buses is a necessity because Laredo has a “waiting list” for hospital beds and the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise. He said there were about 800 active cases on Wednesday and that included a 3-month-old migrant girl who was brought by Border Patrol to Laredo from the RGV.

“We don’t even have a pediatric ICU,” Saenz said. “The federal government can take them someplace else. They have a choice. But we, as residents, really don’t have a choice. We’re literally fighting for beds here if there are beds available. So it’s truly a public health crisis.”

He said that when the city filed the lawsuit on July 16 that 35 to 40% of all migrants that were being brought to Laredo from the RGV by DHS officials were testing positive for coronavirus. Now, they do not know what the percentage is because the city is no longer testing the migrants.

But the infected migrants, at the time, quickly filled up the Holdings Institute, the city’s only migrant shelter and forced it to quarantine and close down to new arrivals. He said there also are no hotels in Laredo that will accept COVID-positive migrants. And he said Laredo does not have the ability to open up a large park, which was done recently in the RGV, to isolate and test migrants.
But what really pushed the city to this point, he said, is the waiting list for hospital beds and a lack of nurses and doctors to tend the sick.

“We’re actually pitting a migrant verses a resident wanting a bed and when you have two ill people it’s extremely uncomfortable to be in that situation. It’s insensitive and cruel to put us in that situation because no one wants to decide who gets a bed first,” Saenz said.

Saenz said he was invited and plans to attend Thursday’s roundtable meeting in McAllen with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who is coming to the South Texas border amid calls from local leaders for the Biden administration to address the situation.

He said he hopes to bring up the dire situation to Mayorkas.

“It’s unmanageable. It’s uncontrolled. It’s chaos,” he said.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Senate voted 88-11 to include in the $3.5 trillion budget resolution an amendment banning the release of migrants arriving at the southern border who do not first receive a negative coronavirus test.

The provision was proposed by Kansas Senator Roger Marshall and was adopted as part of the framework for the sweeping Democratic legislation, which passed the Senate overnight.
'This Administration's policies of an open border and mass amnesty have created a humanitarian crisis, a national security crisis, and health crisis,' Marshall said from the Senate floor upon the amendment being accepted.

The majority of senators agreed with Marshall that the language should be included in the bill to prevent illegal immigrants from being transported from the border and released into local communities if they do not obtain a negative COVID-19 test.

The language encourages more resources for testing at the border and imposes a quarantine on migrants who have not yet received a negative result.

Senate Majority Leader Dick Durban and Majority Whip were able to get 10 Democrats to switch their votes to supporting the amendment, which Marshall says just was to 'create the illusion of a united front on the issue of public health at our southern border within the Democrat Party.'
The addition to the budget legislation, which will go to the House when it reconvenes later this month, comes as some areas in the U.S., like all of New York City, are now requiring proof of vaccination for people to be able to go to indoor public spaces like restaurants, gyms and theaters.

'At a time when politicians and bureaucrats are reinstating mask mandates and forcing vaccines on many Americans, their hypocrisy is on full display at the southern border where they are encouraging illegal migrants to enter our country unchecked for COVID,' Marshall said in his early Wednesday morning remarks. 'Enough is enough.'

'The passage of this amendment proves that Republicans and Democrats must stand together and follow through to hold the Biden Administration accountable and ensure illegal migrants are not able to be scattered into the interior of this nation without testing negative for COVID.'

A Washington Examiner report last week revealed that more than 1,500 migrants released into the border town of McAllen, Texas in the last week of July tested positive for coronavirus over a seven-day period.

COVID-positive migrants are told to quarantine for two days, but they are released into the community nonetheless.

The city said in a statement that the 'shockingly large number of immigrants' released by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), an unprecedented 7,000 at one time, overwhelmed humanitarian programs for migrants in McAllen.

'This significant change increases the threat of COVID spread or other lawlessness within the city,' the city said.

McAllen ultimately declared a local disaster as it struggles to quell the spike in COVID-19 cases among migrants.

Republicans pointed to this report and other similar ones as evidence of the need for a change.

Record numbers of migrants are illegally crossing the border under Joe Biden's administration, pleading for asylum. Thousands of these individuals are released into the local communities in Texas and other states every day where they remain in Alternative to Detention Programs while awaiting rulings on their case.

Many localities have claimed they are widely contributing to the surge in COVID-19 cases as the Delta variant and breakthrough cases in vaccinated individuals continue to spike.

In June, CBP revealed it encountered more than 188,000 migrants at the southern border and several reports reveal the number for July tops 210,000, although the official figures have not yet been released.

The latest pushes the number of illegal immigrants who crossed into the U.S. in Biden's first six months in office over the 1 million mark.

Six months into the Biden administration, the president’s border crisis has become far more than a national-security, humanitarian, and constitutional crisis. It represents one of the most substantial public-health crises facing the United States as we struggle to recover from the pandemic.

Driven by politics and ideological hubris, the administration remains committed to a nonsensical, inconsistent, and anti-science open-borders agenda that not only encourages record levels of illegal immigration but also needlessly jeopardizes the lives of American citizens.
Earlier this year, NBC reported that the Biden administration was releasing into the country illegal aliens who later tested positive for COVID. This week, Fox News reported that more than 7,000 COVID-positive illegal aliens have been released into McAllen, Texas, since February, including more than 1,500 in just the past week, causing cities such as McAllen and Laredo to declare a state of emergency.
In short, the administration is knowingly seeding border towns and cities with individuals who are actively carrying and transmitting the virus — people who have defied our laws and broken into our country while ignoring almost all basic guidance concerning COVID.

They travel through COVID hotspots, often jammed into overcrowded stash houses for days or even weeks with no medical attention or adequate PPE, recklessly endangering the health of our citizens, law-enforcement personnel, and the migrants themselves. Thirty-two Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel have died in the line of duty from COVID — nine of them from the Border Patrol. Since the pandemic began, thousands of CBP personnel have been quarantined, degrading CBP’s ability to operate, while many others have been placed in intensive care at local hospitals, fighting for their lives.
But the Biden administration hasn’t let data, public health, or countless COVID-related deaths slow down its America-last agenda. On the contrary, it continues to openly contradict and undermine the CDC’s guidance under Title 42, which clearly states that the current surge of illegal aliens “migrating through Canada and Mexico into the United States creates a serious danger of the introduction of COVID-19 into the United States.”
Under the Trump administration, I and my fellow immigration officials implemented the CDC’s order with purpose and with the understanding that it would save countless America lives. There were no “carve-outs” to please any political faction. We put the health and safety of Americans first.

President Biden, however, has refused from his first day in office to apply Title 42 to unaccompanied children (UACs) infected with COVID, although the overwhelming majority of UACs are 15 to 17 years of age and can carry the virus. The result has been more than 100,000 apprehensions of UACs this fiscal year — the highest total in American history. Most of them have subsequently been released into the U.S.

Under the direction of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, a 17-year-old from anywhere in the world who illegally crosses our southwest border will be released and transported to any city in the U.S. where they can find a “sponsor,” regardless of their COVID status.

Yet while the country is navigating new COVID variants and rising infections, the Biden administration continues to play a dangerous political game with American lives. As the Rio Grande Valley area is reporting a 900 percent increase in COVID cases, the administration is currently releasing, on average, 80 percent of the families illegally entering the U.S. This fiscal year, Mayorkas has directed the release of more than 170,000 family members into local communities without testing for COVID, forcing those communities to take on the responsibility.

McAllen, along with local NGOs, has been forced to establish temporary shelters to address the massive flood of illegal aliens into their communities. McAllen’s mayor recently declared the city overwhelmed and over capacity. The COVID-positive rate among the illegal aliens released into McAllen is 15 percent.
We’ve learned in recent days of thousands of illegal aliens being detained under bridges in Texas, in unsanitary, overcrowded conditions, because CBP lacks the capacity to hold them anywhere else. These are among the most intense “super-spreader” events. Other pictures from inside CBP facilities show illegal aliens crammed into small areas like sardines, creating what amounts to an active COVID petri dish.

But, sadly, the consequences of Biden’s border crisis are not limited to border towns or facilities. Illegal aliens are daily being resettled into neighborhoods across the country at U.S. taxpayer expense. A chilling line from the NBC report, quoting an illegal alien who tested positive upon release by CBP, demonstrates the national scope of this troubling reality: “‘Right now we were tested for Covid and they separated about eight of us because we were positive. We are waiting right now.’ She was waiting to catch a bus to Houston.” (Emphasis added.)

Of course the Iranian leaders were right in stopping vaccine imports from Yank . Since HIV infected blood imports from France caused many infections in Iran . And it is becoming clear that Covid 19 , is more likely a manufactured organism , probably originating in USA .

If vaccine imports are now being allowed from America  , in the face of increasing infections , then Iranian scientists should control quality and compare with vaccine batches provided for other countries in Europe . It is becoming clear that vaccines are not the entire answer , as new variants appear faster than vaccines . Therefore other measures such as effective mask wearing and social distancing , need to be practiced .

Among the pandemic’s many lessons, however, is that greed can easily work against the common good. We rightly celebrate the near-miraculous development of effective vaccines, which have been widely deployed in rich nations. But the global picture reveals not even a semblance of justice: As of May, low-income nations received just 0.3 per cent of the global vaccine supply. At this rate, it would take 57 years for them to achieve full vaccination.

This disparity has been dubbed “vaccine apartheid,” and it’s exacerbated by greed. A year after the launch of the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Technology Access Pool — a program aimed at encouraging the collaborative exchange of intellectual property, knowledge, and data — “not a single company has donated its technical knowhow,” wrote politicians from India, Kenya, and Bolivia in a June essay for The Guardian. As of that month, the UN-backed COVAX initiative, a vaccine-sharing scheme established to provide developing countries equitable access, had delivered only about 90 million out of a promised two billion doses.

Currently, pharmaceutical companies, lobbyists, and conservative lawmakers continue to oppose proposals for patent waivers that would allow local drugmakers to manufacture the vaccines without legal jeopardy. They claim the waivers would slow down existing production, “foster the proliferation of counterfeit vaccines,” and, as North Carolina Republican Sen. Richard Burr said, “undermine the very innovation we are relying on to bring this pandemic to an end.” All these views echo the idea that patents and high drug prices are necessary motivators for biomedical innovation. But examine that logic closely, and it quickly begins to fall apart.

To be sure, it was not greed, but rather a vast collaborative effort — funded largely with public dollars — that generated effective coronavirus vaccines. The technology behind mRNA vaccines such as those produced by Pfizer and Moderna took decades of work by University of Pennsylvania scientists you’ve likely never heard of. According to The New York Times, one of those scientists, Katalin Kariko, “never made more than $60,000 a year” while doing her innovative foundational research. The researchers at Oxford University who developed the technology behind AstraZeneca’s vaccine, which was mostly publicly funded, initially set out with the intention of “non-exclusive, royalty-free” licensing for their vaccine. Only after pressure from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation did they renege and license the technology solely to AstraZeneca.

Of the money that drug companies do invest in R&D, a significant amount for many goes not toward innovative research, but to “finding ways to suppress generic and biosimilar competition while continuing to raise prices,” according to a recent report from the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform. In these cases, executive and investor greed demonstrably impedes innovation. A recent congressional hearing dramatized this issue when Rep. Katie Porter, a California Democrat, grilled the CEO of AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical company which she said spent $2.45 billion on research and development, $4.71 billion a year on marketing and advertising, and $50 billion on shareholder payouts between 2013 and 2018. She characterized the idea that R&D justified astronomical prices as “the Big Pharma fairy tale.”

Coronavirus-related measures would be linked to hospitalizations, with the lowest alarm level requiring masks at work or higher education. Secondary-school pupils may need masks if more than 30 Covid patients are admitted to hospital every day. Children would be home-schooled if more than 95 patients are hospitalized per day. The government must still decide whether to accept the advice.

God, it's horrible! She and I was talking yesterday, and she said no one is on the same page, there is no agreeable way to combat covid, that she doesn't think anyone knows what they're talking about, that it's just chaos, and that you can't trust anyone. She's a director of nurses for a Home Health company.
