THREE RUSSIANS KILLED IN SYRIA - PRO-GOVERNMENT SOURCE

BEIRUT (Reuters) - At least three Russians fighting alongside Syrian government forces were killed and several more wounded when a shell hit their position in the coastal province of Latakia, a senior pro-government military source said on Tuesday.

If confirmed, the deaths which occurred on Monday night would be the first known incident of Russians killed in Syria since Moscow began air strikes in support of President Bashar al-Assad on September 30.

Syrian officials could not be reached for comment. Russia's defense ministry did not respond to requests for comment.

Rami Abdulrahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict, told Reuters that his sources in the area had confirmed the deaths of Russians, but did not have a figure. He said he believed they were not regular Russian forces but volunteers.

The pro-government source, who is familiar with military events in Syria, said that at least 20 Russians were at the post in the Nabi Younis area when the shell struck.

"It's a 90 percent probability that the shell was fired by the militants," he told Reuters, referring to insurgent groups that the Syrian army, backed by Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iranian fighters, has been battling in the area.

The Kremlin has said there are no Russian troops in combat roles in Syria, though it has said there are trainers and advisors working alongside the Syrian military, and forces guarding Russia's bases in western Syria. The Kremlin has said it is not undertaking any steps to recruit and deploy volunteer fighters.

    Checklist:
    - Reuters
    - unammed Source
    - Syrian opposition unverified claims
    - No bodies or pictures posted
    - No names of the dead

Yeah, it could be BS. But the Syrian observer of himan rights (lol) had to say "they are sure these are volunteers and not active personell" and it might have to do with the fact that they cant verify it so they will make the most likely excuse as to not ever verifying their claims as we all know the Rus government will acknowledge when one of their active mil units dies but wont on volunteers.

Breakthrough: Russia, US Sign Memorandum on Military Flights Over Syria

"This morning we received a memorandum agreed by our US colleagues on the prevention of air incidents in the Syrian Arab Republic," Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told reporters.

Moscow hopes that the memorandum will concern all countries taking part in the US-led coalition's air campaign against ISIL. The US vowed to share the safety rules with all parties operating in Syria, Konashenkov added.

It is also necessary to establish cooperation with Pentagon on rescuing pilots in Syria, the Russian defense ministry's spokesman said.
"First of all, this concerns the establishment of operational cooperation in regard to rescuing pilots from any country in case of any force majeure in Syrian skies. Unfortunately, our American colleagues have yet to show understanding of the seriousness of this issue."

According to Konashenkov, the presence of different aircraft in Syria has increased recently. There are sometimes over 30 aircraft in one area at the same time that poses threat to the safety of flights over Syria. "These are military transport aircraft, combat aircraft, unmanned vehicles of various sizes, including unmanned fighting aerial vehicles."
He noted that the Russian air group coordinates its activities with the Syrian air traffic control service concerning every flight of Russian aircraft. "The rest of manned and unmanned military aircraft are flying in the Syrian airspace without approval and without transponders turned on."

President Putin of Russia has reportedly turned down $300 billion in Saudi kickbacks to topple Assad.

In a secret meeting in Russia with President Vladimir Putin, Saudi Defense Minister Mohammad bin Salman has said that his country and Qatar stand ready to pay $300 billion to Russia to topple the Assad regime.

According to Lebanon’s Addiyar Newspaper, at the meeting, President Putin said his government is not mafia to kill its friends or foes in exchange for money and that peanuts do nothing to change Moscow’s strategic principles.

In response, the Saudi minister said his proposal is not limited to the $300 billion in question which will be followed by hundreds of billions of dollars in investment. At this point, according to the Lebanese paper, in order to change the subject, Putin asked whether Prince Salman was into sports.

Russia and all the rest of dictatorships will turn that very word to be ascosiated with something positive. They occupied crimea now the living standards are rising, no war and peace. Russia invaded Syria soon there will be more peace and the citizen vote and cheer for their local dictators while refuse democracy. Reality is indeed funny and shitting on west.

"No Russian military personnel have been killed during Russia's operation in Syria, the Russian Ministry of Defense said Tuesday.

"Due to reports by foreign media about the alleged deaths of Russian servicemen in Syria, we declare: there are no casualties among members of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. Earlier in the day, Reuters reported, citing a military source, that three Russians fighting alongside Syrian government forces had been killed in the war-torn country. Russia's embassy in Damascus described the article as apparent disinformation."

GarryB wrote:First of all I certainly don't believe any of the 26 cruise missiles fired landed in Iran... the only sources making such claims are the Americans and WTF would they know? and more importantly why would I trust them now?

Second banning cruise missiles because they might hit an unintended target..... hahahahahaahahahahahahaa... from a country that refuses to ban land mines and drops bombs at the drop of a hat and uses UCAVs which are no different from cruise missiles at all... I think the term GFY is appropriate... for those who need an explanation... G = go, and Y = Yourself... I am sure you can work out F.

regarding the speed... as long as it takes.

The Russian contingent in this case will be flying at altitude pretty safe from anything the enemy can fire at them... it is the Syrians and Iranians and Iraqis taking the real risks... I think the Russians should support them as long as they are wanted.

As far as the Kurds go, that should be something to get Turkey on board with Assad really because I can see the Americans demanding a coalition  of locals against Assad and that would include lots of nutter groups and the Kurds.

I don't think the Iranians want to hand over land to the Kurds and I don't think Assad wants to hand over land to the Kurds... I am sure Iraq and Turkey feel the same way... there should be some room for negotiating a coalition to fight ISIS... that actually wants to defeat them.

Now from nowhere former Secretary of Defense William J. Perry thinks cruise missiles should be banned because they are unsafe , he further added President Obama can safely cancel the new nuclear cruise missile and challenge other nations, like Russia, to eliminate these destabilizing weapons. This step would save tens of billions of dollars, reduce the risk of nuclear war. Thats surprisingly funny because US made blimps which they claimed can be used to monitor cruise missiles actually failed in defending states.( You can read my shared link on us abm system). In 2007, six nuclear-armed cruise missiles were mistakenly loaded onto a B-52 bomber and flown across the United States.

Now what surprises me is that Why US is worried because according to them 4 cruise missiles failed and it landed in Tehran ( US enemy) destroying few buildings and people to few cows/sheeps( notice the spin) .

If that's the case So why is the U.S. Air Force planning to spend $20 billion to build approximately 1,000 new nuclear-armed Air-Launched Cruise Missiles, or ALCMs, with refreshed warheads, to replace its current fleet? It should not. In fact, the ALCM was supposed to be retired long ago along with the B-52 bomber when the B-2 came on line.

Ha! I think he is an another wishful thinker .

Assuming this is true (because it may be fake), Russia would lose way more than $300 billion by betraying Assad. According to Pepe Escobar, there's been secret geologic surveys conducted in Syria, that state that Syria may have more natural gas than Qatar, and apparently Lebanon (via the Hezbollah party) is moving towards the Russian sphere of influence, which also has significant natural gas reserves off their shores. There's Iraq which is aligned with Syria and Iran, they have major hydrocarbon reserves, and then there's Iran which has the second largest natural gas reserves, just behind Russia. It'd be hard to do business deals if those countries distrust you.

Those 4 countries alone have combined hydrocarbon reserves well in excess of several trillion Dollars (even in a oil glut), but the most important point is that Russia would eventually like to create a serious competitor to OPEC, that probably will include Russia, Venezuela, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Algeria. In fact I suspect Russia would like to create a OPEC competitor that also deals in several other forms of minerals, and raw materials, such as platinum, gold and diamonds (with the help of South Africa), such as timber (with the help of Brazil), such as uranium (with the help of Kazakhstan), etc. I also suspect that the Russian raw material/natural resource OPEC would likely include direct representation of major resource consuming states such as China, India, and South Korea.

We also can't forget there's like hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Shia practitioners who are more likely to cooperate to defend mutual interest's in the Middle East.
