Russian military helicopters paid a visit to both Turkish and Kurdish forces in northern Syria today making a serious of stop-offs throughout Aleppo province.

According to sources, at least two Russian military helicopters – one Mi-8 transport helicopter and a Ka-50 scout-attack helicopter – conducted today’s mysterious mission.

Reports say that the helicopters first stopped off at a Turkish military base in Al-Bab and then flew on to land at a Kurdish base near Tel Riffat.

The reason for the Russia’s visit to either Turkish or Kurdish forces in north Aleppo remains unknown at the present time.

To answer my own question, definitely, as its Col Gen Surovikin in the picture as well.

These Russian 3* and 4* Generals certainly like being up at the front!

I'm pretty sure the title of this piece originally read "ass-kissing" rather than the somewhat softer "suck-up." Author is a West Point grad and a VN vet. States that recognition for physically, personally leading in combat situations is a career detriment for an officer endeavoring to achieve a general's rank. The real biggie transport ship on the Syrian Express, the Alexandr Tkachenko, heading south with the top deck full of trucks and goodness knows what goodies on the lower deck.

Are the trucks a particular type which identifies what they are carrying? There looks to be between 20 and 40 visible.

I'm not sure how these things work in the following sense: Would all parties be cool with it with the roles were reversed? By that, I mean if RN vessels and aircraft were tracking, pursuing, and perhaps you could say harassing a US sub in open waters? Is it considered an accepted practice by all?

Sure, if Russia was hunting down NATO submarines in international waters the NATO media and politicians would
just say fair is fair. No, they would be howling like banshees about Russian aggression and meddling.

Considering, that war in Syria is coming to an end, Russian NAVY want to take opportunity to test Steregushy corvettes in combat. They don't have Kalibr missiles in UKSK, but they could attack land targets with Kh-35U missiles. They have around 300 km range, so they could attack targets in Idlib, but not in Deir Ezzor region.

It was already seen on a Ka-52 in Syria. They have probably tested it since the begining. But I think they improve or make changes to softwares each time they lunch a cruise missile like kh-101 or Kalibr to see what is good and what could be changed for the serial production.

The number of lunches is a proof. Those cruise missiles have 0 military reason to be lunched against such targets in Syria so they are used to show to US they have them or to test them. Since they have already showed to the world that they have such missiles when they lunched them from Caspian sea, the only other reason is that they are testing them and improving them.

That should be the case of Kh-35U because its land attack capabilities are not those of Kalibr or Kh-101 so they will have lot of results to analyse and make lot of changes in their software and test them lot of times.

Moreover since the day we spotted this Ka-52 with Kh-35 and today, it took some time. That should be the time needed to upgrade the missiles.
