If it was a plot I'm sure that reducing the risk of a false flag at the ZNPP and increased belligerence at the NATO meeting next month was part of it.

The basic problem is that the Russian military has shown itself to be too good, too quickly ahead of that July NATO meeting. Publically forcing Ukraine's back against the wall was not a good idea at this stage. It put Zelinsky's plans at risk potentially forcing him to do something stupid.

But now Kiev can relax a bit as the Western politician's and public's belief that the Russian army is shambolic has been confirmed. Just hope that the Russians lay off for a bit and don't rub the UA's nose in it for a couple of weeks, a tactical withdrawal somewhere unimportant would be perfect.

We really don't want any nuclear incident, its always dangerous to back an enemy into a corner.
